    My discord polls are generally a fairly small pool of about 250 people. I do them by listing out the character names and people vote usually with a simple thumbs up or down to relay their opinion. It's mostly just a fun engagement thing there, but sometimes I decide to make a video from those stats if I find it interesting. From my experience interacting with people there it varies from people who play every day to people who don't play the game at all anymore. Maybe that makes it less accurate, maybe more, I'm not sure? The outcome certainly surprised me at multiple points. I enjoy these stat based lists now and then because it's a nice break from always using my own opinion, which is of course subjective - this feels a little more objective. Appreciate the reaction and crediting me and whatnot.
    Hope you feel better soon 👍

      im in his discord, on average, 200-250 people voted in this specific poll for each killer (some killers had less votes, because im assuming people didnt feel strongly enough either way to vote at all, this was certainly my case, i voted for like 6 or 7 of them, because i dont particularly like or dislike facing a huntress for example, and there was no "meh" option) @@LibertyMonk

    • @Aquilenne
      @Aquilenne Před 8 měsíci +2

      Yeah, it's kind of the same with Artist. The power covers both information gathering and chase. So it frees up four perks that you can use to run whatever you feel like. People really hate playing against Plague because of her ability to null and void the healing mechanic altogether. Lots of people run healing builds only to end up being essentially perkless the whole match.
    Also, Doctor is fun to play because his silly laughs and ability to make people scream lightening the mood since so many survivors have goofy ass screams.
    Also also, Wesker should have been at the top. His chase theme alone is absolutely awesome.

      The reason I personally don't like playing against plague is the same reason I don't like playing against legion..... most of the time, the people who are playing these killers don't actually want to chase and down survivors. They'd rather get a "free" injure state then actually go find and chase a survivor. Same reason why killers will hang around the hook.... why go and find survivors when you can just stand in the same spot and they're eventually come to you? lol. Either way, it feels like they're avoiding the entire point/purpose of the game - and I'll never really understand why people load up to play killer in dbd, and NOT want to chase survivors..... it's kinda the whole point, lol.

    Ive noticed 3 things watching this. First its clear that the theming of the killer matters alot. People find it fun to go against cool charecters or ones that have interesting theming. Second this seems to actually take into account how it goes for lower skill players on both sides. A killer like spirit is insane for low skill survivors to go against and having to rely on sound could suck for the killer as well for instance. Also thirdly I think scott always assumes the killer hes fighting is playin to their most try hard and doing the optimal strats. This also makes me feel scott has "lost touch" with the average player given hes both a streamer and has thousands of hours. Back on killers the killers dont always play the best strat anyway but also most players arent playing at a skill to do that. Imagine ranking survivor gameplay but you have to assume they are playing optimally always on gens and what not. Ill never not be amused the strongest way to play survivor doubles as the single least fun way to play them.

    • @Grafii2198
      @Grafii2198 Před 8 měsíci +4

      I personally really like to play as and against Doctor and Clown because of their laughs, for Doc it is really satisfying hearing their screams as you are just laughing and when you face him, the chills of hearing static blast charging is an amazing feeling. For Clown, I find it funny when he laughs or makes Ugh! when vaulting, it really fits him.
      But my favorite killer is the Oni, as a survivor I am literally scared seeing him dashing at abnormal speed directly at me or even just hearing that scream in the distance as well as when playing him it feels like you are a giant brutal force filled with rage.
      I see Scott frequently judging a killer based on mechanical skill, while I believe that for average playing it is one of the least interesting factors whether a killer is fun or not. The fact that Skull Merchant has almost 30% in fun to play says that a lot (I also like her but don't play much, probably will change after the rework, it is amazing). Her power is not something about dodging, graphical tells or some SFX, her power is used to outsmart the opponent by placing the drones at effective places and luring survivors into your clenches.

    • @brad1426
      @brad1426 Před 8 měsíci +7

      I think this is the case with a lot of peoples' opinions on the game.
      Like, I know there's an optimal way to play a game, and to a point I actually think that's valuable, but sometimes, idk man, it's just not as fun to be like "well, A happened, so B must now happen, followed by C" as if every interaction in the game happens in a vacuum. The chaos that is varying skill levels and weird little things different players do is what makes DBD fun and funny as well. Not optimally running a TL wall as god intended or something.
      Edit: Maybe I should add that I do also kinda think optimally running the TL wall is fun too, but like if the whole game were a series of flowcharts to follow in every situation with no adaptation involved, I do think that people would find that stale. Even when the "variety" they're encountering is something frustrating, I do think people would do well to imagine what the game would be like if it were only their favorite killers to go against, and that would include the people that would likely quit playing if they were facing Wesker and Larry every game. This isn't really meant to hit anyone in the community like I'm telling them to feel differently, of course, but I do think the DBD community has a weird relationship with understanding that not everything they play against in any game is something they personally will enjoy. Others might think it's super fun as well, and of course the agency and enjoyment of the killer player matters as well. I'm like the only person in my friend group that finds Spirit to be fun to play against. The rest of my friends just gripe the entire time. We also have a myriad of killers that we have varying opinions on depending on the person. I fucking hate facing Hag, my other friend thinks its fun, etc.
      Another addendum is that while I know gameplay SHOULD come first, and a lot of people value that hard mechanical gameplay element feeling solid, aesthetics matter for a lot of people. The alien chapter is my favorite yet because I love the atmosphere the xeno brings into the match, even though a lot of people absolutely hate the tail. Meanwhile, I think a large part of why skull merchant is such a failure is that she is a failure in both game design AND aesthetic design. Some people really like it, but the vast majority found "vanilla" skull merchant to be extremely lackluster in looks, lore, gameplay, mori, etc. She would absolutely receive hate for her actual power design and stuff, but I do think she wouldn't be as reviled by the community if she was at least "cool" or something.
      Knight's a pretty good example of the opposite. His power is also problematic in ways (less so now, at least imo, but I do get how zoning can be pretty sleeper) but he looks cool and has a sword. A friend of mine literally told me while watching me play "that's the killer I'd play, because they look like a Dark Souls boss" and I was like "Oh, everyone hates this killer actually lmfao"

    Imagine Killer A is absolutely loved by 80% of the community on both sides and 20% find him mildly annoying while Killer B is ok for 90% of players and 10% hate him. Using the ranking of this video Killer B would be the more fun killer.

      You really don't want more than three (four tops) options on an opinion poll, or you run into issues like some people intentionally amplifying their voice by only voting 1s besides their favorites getting 10s. Or the opposite, where 5-star is the default, and 4-stars is what you rate someone who killed your firstborn.
      What isn't shown is the fact that "did not respond" is a thing people can do. I'd like to see if some of these killers had less responders etc. Not responding can be interpreted as "don't care" or "haven't formed an opinion yet".

      Maybe you could implement "rank choice voting".
      Most importantly I wanted to point out that the poll heavily favours killers that are just "fine" for the most amount of players which is why Demo won I think.
      I think for "play as" Blight would have easily won against Demo (which should be obvious when you see how many Blight players exist when playing) if the poll worked differently, but there isn't much to dislike about playing Demo while Blight is more mechanically intensive which is a reason to dislike playing Blight.
      There is definitely use in a poll like this, but especially for "play as" it is much more important how many players love a killer than how many players find a killer ok because you have so many different killers to choose from and you don't need to play every killer.

    Gamers that don't use headphones due to tinnitus (like me) HATE going against spirit due to being at a complete loss of where and what her proximity is to us. On top of walls blocking her phasing sounds a lot of times, and her sound being so lagged behind where she truly is due to speed add-ons, playing against her is pretty stupid (even with headphones). She should be visible in a glitchy and slightly delayed form in phase to survivors.

    Micromanaging is the only effective way to play knight in my opinion.
    Dropping guards in the chase make sense only if you play the double axe, otherwise.... meh... if the surv is cornered ok, otherwise the survivor is going to move...
    Much more effective to chase Dwight and keep Meg busy with a guard or a gen with a lot of progress blocked.
    it is about managing resources.

    An important thing to remember about these placements is that, as far as I'm aware, the questions were only "Are they fun to play/play against?", rather than "How fun are they from 1-10?"
    When looking at killers like Nemesis, very few people would say he is not fun to play against, and him being licensed definitely has something to do with that.
    And with Demo being above Wesker, it's not saying that Demo is more fun, rather that less people find him not fun. There probably aren't as many people who absolutely love playing as or against Demo as there are for Wesker, but due to him being rarer, unable to obtain, and potentially a more popular license (I know many more ST fans than RE fans) he is disliked by less, and thus higher. Nobody complains when they get Demo. Some people complain when they get Wesker, due to his pickrate.

    Love going against Knight, Deathslinger, and Pinhead (aside from the box cuz solo queue I'm usually doing it the entire game). And Legion is one of my favorite killers to play because there's very rarely any down time where you're looking for survivors. It's constant pressure and I absolutely love it

The constant tension of never knowing when he's going to shoot or what he might shoot through/over, the back and forth mind games of trying to out predict each other or trick them into making a mistake... I like Blight, but I haven't memorized the hitboxes of every object in the game, so usually when I'm rushing and about to slam onto something, I have no idea if I'll actually slam onto it, or if I'll just slide off of it like it's coated in 2 tons of butter. I get that there's some objects that are notorious for being slippery, like the logs and tree stumps on Swamp and cars in general, but there's a bunch of other stuff and inconsistent bullshit with hitboxes that gets me frustrated when I play Blight sometimes.
    It just feels like crap when I'm chasing a survivor, and then I plan a route I'm going to go with my rushes, then I execute the plan, only to get stuck or slide off of the object I ran into, despite running face first into it. Then I go into cooldown, and the survivor gets more distance on me.

    The fun of playing Pinhead, for me at least, primarily comes from leaning into his box while running some form of totem defense build, he's the only killer that can actively overwhelm even a competent SWF team with objectives, between keeping his box locked down, dealing with the potential 5 totems on the map, and managing the gens, i've had success in causing even above average players to crack in their prioritization, and if a chain hunt does start totems become impossible to cleanse unless they risk a box play, or dedicate two people to one totem.
    Of course this makes your matches 100% RNG, but given how much procedural generation affects your standard match anyway throwing your hat to the wind and going all in on it can be liberating in it's own right, on one hand if they focus gens you'll get devour value and might even get a team wipe but on the other hand you're getting fantastic indirect gen delay between your box and thrill totems.

All kinds of hilarious things happen when you toss a Guard at someone, and they're quite flexible - smash a pallet, zone people out, disrupt a heal, kick a gen. Sometimes mid-chase. They all create situations where the survivor and killer can use their skill to get a hit or avoid a hit. It's not someone walking up to you and m1. Its not some poison or other passive ability. Its someone actively trying to hit a survivor by predicting where they will be, and a survivor actively trying to deceive the killer.

    i cant believe that after all the time wesker is realeased people arent absolutely sick of him, nowadays i switched from DCing against nurse to DCing against wesker because all these players ever do is tunnel the fuck out of someone right off hook with 4 gen perks, its literaly worse than pyramid head, they should honestly insta cleanse infection when you get hooked, because the hooked survivors having to spend time getting healed and getting the infection off is just absolutely incredible, i get that Pig has the same mechanical component there but with pig its different in the way that you can have time before it gets a serious problem, with wesker its basically your saviour heals you and you are already almost fully infected, which is an instadown when he gets you again, so unless you already have a spray on you at the time its absolutely abyssmal to go against

      I mean, people want to win, what do you expect? Lose and move on, especially if you're a casual player like most of DBD claims to be. 😂

    I wonder if the results were just a combined percentage of who answered "yes" vs. "no" to the question of "Is this killer fun to play?"
    Because I think that would explain some of the weirder results. Like, Pyramid Head is probably nobody's favorite killer to face but he's also pretty straightforward and it means you're not up against a slugging Nurse or the 50th Wesker in a row so who really says "no" to that question?

    I think for pyramid head mains most people are giga chads that like to shoot through walls. Only the sweat lords actually tunnel.
