If you want to see something great with George Michael - he performed “Somebody To Love” with Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon (the surviving members of Queen) at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. In my opinion, the only possible singer to truly do the song justice other than Freddie himself !

All he wanted was freedom from the record companies, to share his music w/o fame. So sad he's gone. Freedom is a great video & song cuz he was finally able to do him. You have just reacted to genius. The singer/songwriter of his generation. You rightly allude to his voice and the point is he was even better live. You might want to listen to his performance at the prince's Trust concert in the early 90's, his MTV unplugged performance, including the beautiful " I can't make you love me" and the brilliant "everything she wants". He posessed a heart and soul as beautiful as his voice and was secretly very generous with charitable donations. Very much missed. Thanks for the brilliant songs you left behind George and rest in peace. Take care guys and best wishes from the UK.

The 80s is full of great hits! A great decade to grow up in for sure. Many 80s songs incorporated the saxophone, and it makes these songs so soulful. George Michael's songs are fantastic. The group he was with before going solo, Wham!, also had some great songs. Great reaction!
Check out Father Figure, Faith from George Michael and Wake Me Up from Wham! You won't be disappointed.

George is one of my all-time favorites. I'll never stop missing him. My favorite vocals of his are on "Where Did Your Heart Go?" He was in the group Wham! with his friend Andrew Ridgeley. So a lot of his songs are under that group name.

I am sure there are more snippets of other songs of his that you most likely have heard as well (Last Christmas and Freedom 90 come to mind). Hope you both dive further into his catalogue.
While the name George Michael may not be familiar to you, he was among the biggest artists in the 80s rivaling the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, etc. Sadly his life started to become turbulent beginning in the 90s and he never really recovered, sadly passing away on Christmas Day in 2016.

This was my go to Karaoke song . George Michael was one of my favorite artists growing up, as someone mentioned he wrote this song when he was 17, it was his 1st solo hit at 21 but he credited it to Wham so that his Wham band mate Andrew Ridgely would never have to worry about money. He was also very charitable and even secretly paid I believe for someones surgery (I'll double check)A beautiful soul. RIP always George

  • @gamexsimmonds3581

This song actually originally appeared on Whams 1984 album called Make it Big. Wham was a Duo with George Michael and Andrew Ridgely. Even though it's George singing it was Co-written by Andrew so I get kinda sad when folks give all the credit to George for this masterpiece. Andrew Ridgely is also playing acoustic guitar in this song. When it was officially released as a single in some countries it was released as Careless Whisper by George Michael and some countries it was released as Careless Whisper by Wham Featuring George Michael

I know some other people have already pointed this out but George Michael was a legend that often gets forgotten by the younger generations. During the 80's he was THE MAN, being in the company with and even beating out the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna. His name is often left out of the discourse surrounding the big hitters of that time, but he was one of the biggest hitters of them all! Careless Whisper might be his most recognizable song to people who are not familiar with him, but it's nowhere near his best song. I mean he wrote it at 17, so you know his amazing songwriting could only get better over the next 30 years of his career. His talent is absolutely insane, his voice was unmatched and he is without a doubt one of the best songwriters of all time

Let me tell you what's weird for me. We have a radio station that plays oldies here in Phoenix. They use to play music from the 50s and 60s. I tried to find the station the other day but all they played was music from the 80s and 90s. It finally dawned on me that music I grew up on is now considered oldies! I kept seeing all these "First time hearing" titles on CZcams and I would be like "No way you've never heard that song!" But it's true! I asked a couple of young people if they knew who Lenny Kravitz or Janet Jackson is. They DID NOT KNOW! My mind was blown. I watch you with your daughter as you play all these different types of music and hope you continue to introduce her to it. If you haven't already done so, please react to Lenny Kravitz:
Are You Gonna Go My Way
    American Woman
    Fly Away
    ************
    Janet Jackson:
What Have You Done For Me Lately
    Nasty Boy
    Pleasure Principle
    Escapade
    You Want This
    Alright
    If
    Anytime
    Black Cat
    That's the Way Love Goes
    Got Till It's Gone
    Love Will Never Do
    ***********
Just pick something from the list from both if them.

Its unfortunate that he didnt record more. One of the finest, if not the best, male voices of the 80s. He was a big perfectionist though and very picky about what he chose to sing.
Back in the day guys never admitted to listening to George Michael. Yeah we are kind of dumb as kids lol.

I am A BIG FAN OF GEORGE. He was a singer song writer producer and played several instruments. His whole catalog of music is wonderful. Got to listen Kissing A Fool Father Figure Somebody to Love Jesus To A Child My Mother Had A Brother and so many more. George's Talent will blow you away. Sadly Our Dear George Passed Away on December 25, 2016. May God Rest His Talented Soul.

A little trivia: This was released under Wham! for the US market only; the idea was they wanted to use it to draw the US market more into Wham, while it was released only under George Michael everywhere else. GM was destined to go solo, that was mutually understood. 2nd: Both GM and Andrew Ridgeley had written two different songs separately; they actually combined Andrew's riff with what GM had, and it...amazingly...worked perfectly (and they were both kids, literally teens). If you listen to both the melody/sax, and then listen to the guitar, you can just about hear the idea that they were written separately, which is pretty amazing.
And for anyone that challenges that, I'm certain it's true, Andrew explained it in an interview and GM corroborated it.
GM and Andrew had a very amicable split with the two knowing GM was a powerhouse of a writer/performer and needed to branch out solo. He did, became enormously successful writing countless incredible songs, and the rest is history. Miss him a lot, what a loss.

Hey guys I was a senior in high school when George Michael and his first group called Wham a really popular. This song was a mass of hit there’s no telling how many tens 1 million team made off that song. It’s so interesting to see young people listen to this stuff because you got a remember at this time there was no Internet there was maybe four major TV networks in the country ABC NBC CBS and so everyone usually watch the same stuff adults and children and then there was also a lot of crossover listening to on the radio. Today it’s so interesting because you can have some massive CZcams star but most of the populations never even heard of them. Back then if you had a massive TV star movie star or singer most everyone had heard of them adults and children. Anyway I would recommend listening to more songs by George Michael he has a Lotta good songs and he has a great voice. If you want a good laugh go back and look at his first album by Wham called wham rap. It was kind of a mix of pop music rap I don’t even know what I would call it what are some good songs on it. I was a mobile DJ back in those days and we play this music and dances all the time. Anyway guys have a great day

Ugh, it was like a knife to the heart when you said you'd never even HEARD of George Michael. He was a pop superstar with tons of hit songs, both solo and with "Wham!" (exclamation point included in the name). I was sooo sad when he died at just 53 a few years ago. This song is actually on a Wham! album (Make it Big). To see his range, check out "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," which is really up-tempo. For a special treat, go back one more album and listen to "Wham Rap" and "Bad Boys." My daughter and I have such a good time listening to those songs. Cheers!

One of George Michael's very best vocals in a career filled with timeless classics...He had a voice so smooth that even whipped butter was jealous. Sadly, He got caught up in all the trappings of being a global icon, which ultimately led up to his demise. His music will be admired as long as there are people to listen to it....RIP George
