- A huge thank you to the French Ministère des Armées for uploading the original without any commentary. At first I was going to translate TF1's commentary until the guy was saying that he knew of legionnaires who would go on leave with two taxis, one for them and one that they would put their kepi in. I mean WTF !
I think that it was to impress on people just how important the white kepi is.
Make sure that you 'like' it.

Un grand merci au Ministère français des Armées pour avoir mis en ligne l'original sans aucun commentaire. Au début j'allais traduire le commentaire de TF1 jusqu'à ce que le mec me dise qu'il connaissait des légionnaires qui partaient en permission avec deux taxis, un pour eux et un dans lequel ils mettaient leur képi. Je veux dire WTF !
Je pense que c'était pour faire comprendre aux gens l'importance du képi blanc.
Assurez-vous que vous "l'aimez".

You might be wondering what's with the axes and leather aprons. Today of course they're mostly just ceremonial decorations, but back in the old days the men carrying them were Sappers, essentially Combat Engineers, they performed a number of duties including fighting fires and breaking open doors and gates, the axe was the most recognizable of their many tools.

I read it was the old way of marching since the days of the French Monarchy. Ancien Regime.
The Left step goes slower to honour the Fallen Legionairs .
The Right steps for the present day.
There are a many many traditions you learn at Nugent and beyond.
Many are only to be shared within.
Just be aware that every detail had and has pure respect for All Legionairs.
The Legion is everlasting.
They originated from the deserts of north africa. This pace is more suitable in that climate.

I agree. The famas to me should still be used in parades and ceromonies. I would like to see it as part of the Legion tradition
Hi Dane, Unfortunately that is the issued weapon, so there is no choice when it comes to parades.
Sad Day.....No FAMAS....They should march with them as parade rifles even though they no longer carry them in Battle...They Look Cool....

@@French4ForeignLegionnaires I served in the U.S. Army with three former legionnaires from the 2nd REP. That is the phrase they used when drinking. They also stated "Legio Patria Nostra".

Le Président de la République est le chef des armées (article 15 de la Constitution). Et donc, il est normal de lui rendre les honeurs:
"Pour rendre les honneurs au Président de la République, le porte-drapeau (ou porte-étendard) incline l'emblème (drapeau ou étendard) devant lui en étendant son bras droit dans toute sa longueur, sans que le talon de la hampe soit posé.
Cette position est prise à six pas du Président de la République et maintenue jusqu'à ce que le Président ait dépassé le drapeau (ou l'étendard), ou ait été dépassé par lui, de six pas."
@@French4ForeignLegionnaires je me plaçais moins sur un terrain formel et républicain que philosophique. C'est bien lorsque la légitimité républicaine est précédée de la légitimité humaine et morale.
