- How to grow blueberries at home:
The blueberries were germinated from seed in water and then planted in soil. Since blueberries bear fruit only after 2-3 years, the flowering and berry phase was filmed with a two-year-old plant!
Overall 185 days of filming + 2 years of further growing results in this 2.5-year time lapse of growing blueberries from seeds to fruits!
I would love it if you subscribe :)! Let me know if you liked this blueberry plant time lapse!

wow this is from 1 hour ago
hi (:
me and my family are doing a little garden type thing and we each have a different plant
i got watermelon, my little brother got pumpkin, my other, littler brother got little tomatos, my older sister got squash, and my little sister got strawberries, and my littler sister got corn. i hope they grows nicely
hope your doing well
wow this is amazing. i planted my seeds in soil, didn't think to put in water to sprout. The dedication to film this over 2 years is something else
Thanks so much :-)
Is that water ? To sprout 🌱? Thank you
@@SandyStrugiHuskies1285 yea just let them sit in water to go through a process called germination which just means to bust out of the shell
How did u get that heart emoji I love it!!! :)
@Rachelcampbellll For me it just shows up as text since I watch youtube on the website
If you now want to grow blueberries, know that they like a special, lower pH soil. If you just use regular store potting soil….they will grow, but not well and won’t produce many berries.
Great Tip!
Normal soil. And add coffee grinds...bamm
@@kevingrif1065what the hell is that
@@DogTired0819thanks for the tip
@@kevingrif1065
No no no! That is wrong and insufficient. Used coffee grounds are neutral as their acidity is taken out through the boiling water that passes through. The acidity is inside the cup of coffee. Barely anything in the used coffee grounds....
I just sprouted about 20 seedlings from 3 blueberries I got at the store, I took out 50 or so tiny seeds from 3 blueberries and put them in wet toilet paper and covered it for a few weeks, today I potted up some more, some seeds will still sprout, it might take weeks longer, but it will be fun watching them grow through the years, I also have many other varieties of blueberry plants ordered online, well known names, this was all just a test to see what would happen and now I will have 20-30 more blueberries to add to my 20 well established plants 😂😂
And great video by the way and great patience as it took years to make.
Hahah sounds great! I guess you wont run out of berries the next years 😂😂
Tem como germina sementes da fruta congelada? Ou tem que ser da fruta in natura?
@@joseanecruz3914 Frozen "might" be fine, as blueberry seeds need a slight freeze before they germinate, also give the seeds up to 2-3 months to germinate as they can take time and never let them dry out.
The seeds I used were from blueberries in the fridge.
@@Adrian-cw8yu thank you. Você saber se posso deixa na sombra ou no sol ? Para que haja germinação ?Aqui a máxima é de 31°C e mínima de 26°C .
@@joseanecruz3914 I typed a long reply explaining it all but it got deleted 🙄 But. basically out of direct sunlight, when germinating in wet tissue, do it inside your house.
Wow! I plan on planting some blueberries, and I’m impatient so I love watching videos like these. This is so beautiful! I was surprised to see those things turn into blueberries.
Wow, that was incredible! You really did some amazing work there. Planting and growing the blueberries is one thing producing that video is a whole other talent!
Wow thanks so much my friend! Means a lot to me !! :)
2 years later, more like I went to Homedepot and bought some plants 🤣
Hahah
pls dont laugh but i bought more than 100 blueberry plants
How are they doing?@@user-hr4vh7lf2n
I am mesmerized and impressed!!! Wowza and Thank you!!!
Gorgeous, excellent filming, thanks very berry much
Thanks so much, Kathleen! Just a little hint, that I started a new channel with more detailed tutorials, maybe you like it aswell :) www.youtube.com/@interestingasfckhowtos
I tried it here in the tropics.only 2 seedlings survived the mild weather.but the leaves are green not reddish.only portion of nodes become light purple.the humid weather at 23C caused roots to develop and the cuttings thrived.they are now 10 month old.2 plants become 6 plants.
Do you put indoor or outdoor?
I live in Brazil, a tropical country. I have a productive blueberry tree in my yard, but a just bought it when it was a young plant instead of planting the seeds. I thinking planting by seeds is just not worth the time
I didnt know blueberry can grow in tropic, i thought its need cold weather
@@teguhf.2084 where I live researchers of UnB (University of Brasília) found out that it can be planted here but we have to plant it on rice husks instead of soil (dont know why), give it a lot of water erveryday and use only chemical fertilizers.
@@teguhf.2084 provided that soil ph is on the range of 4.5 to 5.5. Dont expose them to 35C sun Ray's for long hours.

SO COOL!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing

Amazing! I had to watch this twice 👏 loved it 😍 2 years is such a commitment my friend!! Just love your videos…. Amazing to watch 🌻💝😊
Thanks so much!!😊 so happy to have your support :)
Sir, did you use a grow light (LED)?
Should I water the seeds daily or what?
True passion. Superbly videographed
Thanks so much!😊
This is awesome! Keep going :)
Thanks so much my friend!
Geil! Sehr gut gemacht 👍🏻
Amazing video but i have a question, what's the best season to plant them?
Spring
Nice blueberries, can't wait for mine to break dormancy. Did you have to constantly maintain your soil pH for them?
cool...I just started a few plants by throwing a few berries in the soil...mary j
How is it going?😊
so far looks like three or so are surviving...have been trying your start but first time came up with nothing...gonna try once more when we get blueberries...
mary j
I was eating blueberries while watching this video!
I guess there is no better snack to enjoy the video 😂
Do I leave the tray and after germination; the small seedlings plants in the sun or in shade?
Can blue berry plants fruit twice a season or does the plant need a rest period of lower light exposure?
Very nice video ❤❤❤
Respekt for the performance to implement a project for so long 🌱😮
"ah ok with a 2-year break", still good work 😃
Thanks 😊
Can I grow a blueberry plant in extreme heat conditions, in India there's extreme heat approaching at 47° celsius in summer so can I grow it?
How often did you have to change the water ? Was it just tap water ? Do you keep them indoor with a bit of sunlight ?
I’ve just started, fingers crossed in 20 days they will sprout!
Thanks for watching my friend! I just refilled the water (tap water) :-) by now I have planet it outside
I tried it and it has been 3 weeks and none of the seeds are sprouting
@@ThanhTran-et7ngit’s been a week for me and nothing yet. Blueberries grow slow I believe right?
@@trentonwhite1814 mine germinated but they were eaten by bugs
When do you plant outside? Or how did you care for in the winter the first year?
Actually you can plant them outside pretty early - or even start them from seed outside
I will try from seeds today
All the best
Planted mine and finally started to grow but only the top has leaves and they are at least 5 - 8 inches high. What gives? I wonder if it made a difference if I made it like a terrarium with a plastic bottle over the seedlings and still to this day?
I guess with some sun and a good care it should be no problem to grow more leafs for your plant :-) otherwise you can still try it with the plastic bottle to increase humidity
a lot of plants will grow leggy like this if they are not getting enough sunlight. Blueberries do like sun as long as it's not scorching.
@@lessiansaralonde620 That makes sense. The plant only got afternoon sun. They were floppy but now hardier. I'll make sure they get more direct sunlight too.
What did you keep the temperature at when you germinated them?
Hey buddy! Temperature was around 21 deg Celsius :-)
@@interestingasfck Thank you
Isn't it get rott if put the seed in water ?
If you have enough air circulation ahd clean seeds + changing water it can work
@@interestingasfck ooh I see good tips
Im trying it and after about 2-3 weeks I have 4-5 sprouting out of 25 or so seeds from a blueberry from walmart.
How is the plant doing today? Did you transfer it to soil?
How was your first blueberry harvest? How did it taste?
Epic
Thanks buddy!
Wow time commitment
Thanks for the appreciation!
Would it grow if you just plant the berry itself? I want to grow some different berries but the bushes are so bloody expensive, ive just been thinking of dropping some organic berries in planters to see if theyll grow on their own. Wouldnt take much to protect them from snow/ice damage in the winter, but getting them started off is kinda sketchy for me
It would not be likely to work since the germination process of the blueberries is a bit difficult. I asked ChatGPT 4.0, here’s what they said:
“Growing blueberries from a whole fruit dropped into potting soil is unlikely to be successful for several reasons. Here's why:
Seeds Need Preparation: Blueberry seeds typically require some form of pre-treatment before they will germinate. This often involves stratification, which is a process of simulating winter conditions for the seeds. Without this, the seeds inside the blueberry might not recognize that it's time to start growing.
Decomposition Risk: Dropping a whole blueberry into soil and covering it might lead to the fruit decomposing before the seeds have a chance to germinate. This could also attract pests or cause fungal diseases that could harm the seeds.
Seed Extraction and Cleaning: It's generally recommended to extract, clean, and dry the seeds from the fruit before planting. This helps in assessing the seed quality and ensures that only healthy seeds are planted, increasing the chances of germination.
Soil and Conditions: Blueberries have specific soil pH and nutrient requirements. They thrive in acidic soil with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5. Simply dropping a blueberry into potting soil without ensuring the soil meets these conditions may not support the growth of blueberry plants even if the seeds were to germinate.
For the best chance of growing blueberry plants, it's recommended to start with seeds prepared specifically for planting or, more commonly, from nursery-bought seedlings or cuttings. These methods ensure the plants are already past the difficult germination stage and are ready to grow under the right conditions.”
First growing, in Water, what need 4-5 ph range for water to?
My should be around 7 - it’s just tap water

I live in Maine here in the US and we used to get amazing wild blueberries all over the state completely I come from Old orchard Beach which is way southern Maine right on the coast even all over that area used to get wild blueberries now they're blueberry farms all over Maine however for some reason whenever you shop local and or bigger stores which even though the store is here locally the stuff that comes from them stores are not really local every single package of blueberries but one one package out of the last 3 years and I keep trying over and over because I love blueberries have been amazingly huge but they have zero taste they taste like water or if they do have taste it's extremely bitter I don't know what's up with the blueberries but my guess is even taking seeds from these blueberries would be a waste of time because they're bred to have no taste is my guess but if anybody has suggestions let me know
What do you want to see next? :D
Can you do a time-lapse of strawberries or cherries? 🙂
@@missbee9976 I already did a strawberry :-) But cherry sounds like a great idea!

I don't know if you had done grapes already? I wish CZcams have the option to search for videos that CZcamsrs had already posted

Highbush blueberries would prefer to be planted in well-prepared soil in the ground but with proper planting and care, they can be grown in containers. Select a well-draining, large weather-proof container like a wooden barrel planter.
Hi did u use any fertiliser ?
Yes every once in a while I used high nitrogen fertilizer :-) but blueberries usually do not need a lot of fertilizer
Can it grow in tropical countries
2 years?😱 Then I'll have to start tonight :/
How do you get that effect with your soil and what soils do you use
blueberries love acidic soil.
That looked like algae to me

wait did the plant bear fruit without any pollination??
Did you put the seeds under artificial lighting for them to germinate?
The whole time lapse was under a 150W plant lamp! But for the germination it should be finde without light.

Yes but you should put the seeds in water for some hours before you put them into soil.

I have tried several methods>>blueberries I can not germinate but>>>>> bilberries will...What gives??
Does it really take 2 years ?
Hey buddy! Yes indeed it does take that long to grow fruits when you start from seed :)
Planted in 2020
Hahah
Important tip: just like avocados, blueberry seeds dont breed true, and tend to produce fruit that taste different than the fruit they came from. You get far more reliable results, and will save a full year, by purchasing an already established plant, and even then you'll need to skip a year to encourage it to root. Those are not the only landmines either ... they also require extremely acidic soil, and ammendments to maintain it. You also need to pick a variety that matches the zone youre in, otherwise that 2 year process will be wasted, which further devolves using storebought fruit to a blind crap shoot.
Blueberries require intermediate level gardening skill or better to be reliably successful. Ya gotta do the reading.
OMG I have to wait 2years
How is this 2.5 years?
I guess blueberry for fruiting needs same amount of time as watermelon 😂
O brothe please make a detaile video on blueberry to how to grow from seed into plant.👆👆👆👆🌈

I have some videos about bilberries they're good too
Confirmed this is not whats growing lmao. I planted them, but the sprouts are a purple leaf. Idk wtf is growing now haha.

get blueberries grown in your own country or they are likely irradiated if imported and wont produce a fruiting plant. Blueberries need pollination to create large crops so, this would not be idea to grow a single plant indoors.
