Those dark spots, it's a function called "fog of war." It prevents you to see anyone and anything thag happens in the dark spots unless there is a guard patrol or camera's in that area.

9:15 - that's my prison! I did have a bigger visitation room where the parole and mailroom now is, but contraband - especially after what you said about suitcasing - was out of control. Now that little visitation area is for minimum security only. I had more gun towers, but they weren't necessary - escapes and fights just weren't happening. The three helipads is because it's the only way to empty that workshop in time. I know the workshop being close to the road is a security issue, but that's why there's a security office and armory right across the road. The road itself is prison property; it's not a thoroughfare. I'm glad you like it, Larry! Helping my inmates to make good choices.
With my prisons, I tend to build a reception connected to a 4-way connection room to where going up is the staff hallway with offices, security and stuff like that, to the left would be the main prison area, then going down would visitation rooms such as the mailroom, visitation center and I tend to build basically a phone room.

I had no idea that he played this! so awesome. damn this was 3 years ago how have I not seen this? really bummed I missed it because I figured out in my opinion the best layout for a prison in this game. I always put the cafeteria in the middle and then section it off into the different levels of security and then you can have lunch times all at once and keep the prisoners separated and also the fact its in the middle really makes the flow much better as far as time goes. everyone gets to eat and its been the most efficient way I've found to build in this game

Just to clear up for the people that don’t play this game. The “dark spots” or places without power actually have power it’s just a game mechanic called fog of war that keeps you from being able to see anywhere in the prison that there aren’t guards or cameras.
Here in Walker County a few inmates escape from the jail with peanut butter. Yes peanut butter. The jail is pretty tight security to. You can try to look it up if you want. Jasper,Alabama is the place.

The prison "Without power" was just because he has a setting where you cant see in unless a guard is looking there

One tip:you can put shower heads on drains inside the canteen without having a separate shower regime.
