I am a passionate music fan as well as an actively performing mobile DJ. I grew up on the progressive rock movement of the 70s and decided it's finally time to check out some modern prog!! Please join me on this journey and enjoy/discover along with me.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...This song is better than many band's careers.
This is the best song ever created.
Another interesting connection is the keyboardist here, Richard Barbieri, was a member of the band Japan back in the 70's so he's the veteran musician of the group.
old prog head here too and new sub. Love Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson's solo work. Grateful to have seen them in Dallas last September. Played for over 2 and half hours. Passed like 10 minutes
As 'modern' prog goes, this is a stone-cold classic. It doesn't get much better (and I think the Tilburg version is the best). Multiple passage songs often have some duff bits. Not this one. All killer from start to finish. I can watch this on repeat for Gavin Harrison's drumming alone - an absolute materclass.
Check out Stephen Wilson’s solo work too! The concert at Royal Albert Hall is a stunner. And of course the material he did with the great Guthrie GOVAN probably in the running now for the best guitarist around.
The great Gavin on drums, he’s come out number 1 modern day drummer on many musical publications and his peers.
Bro! They're touring for the first time in over a decade. Highly recommend getting tickets.
Yep, PT is live absolute outstanding. Great musicianship, great songwriting, great atmosphere.
Another fun prog song is 'Ayreon - the day the world breaks down'.
An absolute masterpiece. 11 singers in one song. Maybe you like it.
Riverside: Second life Syndrome is a must. Polands greatest prog. band!
Next you should consider "Harridan" off the latest album ( 1st in 10 years). A 5/4 blistering extravaganza. IT IS ALSO time to explore Steven Wilson's ( the singer and principal songwriter)
solo work . "The Watchmaker " live , Routine ( the official video...and pay attention to EVERYTHING, including print).
Steven is also a producer and mixer. He has remastered the entire King Crimson discography, the first few Yes albums, currently working on Jethro Tull s discography, and Tears For Fears " Songs From the Big Chair" 30 anniversary , as well as Black Sabbath, XTC ....and many more.
Another band besides Opeth he has produced is Anathema ,an excellent Liverpool band. Try " Untouchable pt 1&2 " live
The Watchmaker live is a must see for you, because it's the kind of prog I think you like best.
Nice reaction ❤
Nice
To be really amazed by the drumming (and a fantastic song) you should check out Cheating the Polygraph from this same concert.
Right on! Polygraph live is stunning! Cheers!
Try "Luminol" ( Live) from Steven Wilson, if you want a full on Prog Pie. Or " Watchmaker" live... You won't be disappointed
Such greatness! The crowd acts anesthetized💉
Been loving the videos! Would love to see more reactions to Porcupine Tree, Steven WIlson's solo stuff, Pineapple Thief (Gavin Harrison's other band), and of course Opeth!
Can't wait October when I'll be heading to Sweden to see PT live! Luckily I will see Opeth live in Estonia in September. That should keep me going. x)
Just to confirm for you that yeah Alex played the solo just before you paused for the album version, saw Rush around the time this album came out and they played this track in the venue before they came on stage :)
After Wilsons work with Opeth they turned up the prog elements and Porcupine Tree got a LOT heavier
You need to dip into the Steven Wilson solo catalog. Luminol, Deform to Form a Star, Drive Home, or, if you are in a truly melancholy mood, the title track to The Raven Who Refused to Sing.
Welp i suggest you to check both versions (which i know you'll do ofc xD) Btw pay attention to the drum work especially in live versions, Gavin Harrison is a monster of a technician, legit one of the best in the world actually
"building to something big" is right. I still remember where i was when i first heard this song, and it's one of my favorites. I'm glad you like it too, Dad. :)
Hey man! New to your channel and digging it! I too am an old prog fan, early Genesis, Rush and ELP being my favorites. Of course looking like Geddy’s illegitimate son helps. Lol. Love your reaction to PT. I became a fan of them in the early 2000’s. I’m not sue if you checked this band out yet, but another great band is Haken. I saw them on Cruise to the Edge. I’ll post a video for you to check out
Here is the extended official video. These guys are heavily influenced by Gentle Giant. And the muppet spin off of the video is a lot of fun!

Many people think that the drummer gives Neil Peart a run for his money
Top reaction, really is a joy to watch, glad you are taking the PT journey, you will soon be hooked big time 😁 some other from them worth the watch, “hatesong” which shows off everyone of them at their best, “cheating the polygraph” “dark matter” there really is so much fantastic stuff from them.. keep rocking 🥃
🙂❤👍
One of the best songs in the world. Enough said.
Great lyrics, virtuoso musicians, amazing transitions, tight as hell, drums integral and tuned perfectly, varied time signatures and a guitar solo from each guitarist plus compelling vocals including a canon in the outro. As perfect a live neo-prog performance as you will experience outside of old school Pink Floyd. PT are next level. With respect, I would suggest that you listen/react to Hatesong (Live). Or Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (Live).
Hey Tom, greetings from the UK, new subscriber here. I'm guessing somebody has already mentioned about Steven Wilson producing various Opeth albums and I definitely suggest a dive into Opeth but be advised.... anything off the last 4 albums you could class as Prog Rock whilst most albums previous can be classed as Progressive Death Metal (don't let that put you off, the music is out of this world), but Opeth are so much more than those descriptions. Also, for something completely different but still very much Prog, check out the Ozric Tentacles.
Glad to have you mate!
I personally prefer the studio version, a much more cohesive and flowing energy throughout it in my opinion. But definitely not a majority opinion there lol. Just think Steven's mixing on the Fear of a Blank Planet album was unmatched in their catalogue.
A masterpiece
U are reacting to porcupine tree/Steven Wilson ... Very very pink Floyd influenced... And yeah. Agree with u. This is modern prog of course 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Should try some porcupine tree older songs (from 92/93) or try time flies from 2008 album .. very influenced by the album animals (instrumentally)
Gavin Harrison is a beast
Yes, Gavin Harrison is a beast on drums. In fact, he's my all-time favorite drummer. If you really want to see him (and the rest of the band) show off, I highly recommend the live version of Hatesong:

What a song !
Love P Tree, my top faves are this one, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Russia on Ice, Time Flies, and Trains, but there are just so many great songs by them. Do you like Haken, my fave albums by them are probably The Mountain and Affinity, would love to hear you react to some Haken!
Other very very modern prog band is leprous. U should try, below. Castaway angels, or.if.u like something longer, the sky is red or distant bells
🤘🔥
Try Leprous Contaminate Me live. Norwegian prog band
Love the channel man! I think you’d really dig Caligula’s Horse. Check out the first two songs on their album Bloom. The song Bloom goes right into Marigold kinda like Tool’s parabol/parabola.
I’d also recommend the Cockroach King by Haken!
Hope you get a chance to check ‘em out!
PT is a great band. Theres a ton of newer prog to check out, enjoy
Hey, you're wearing an Everton shirt !! Of all the teams you could have chosen lol My team and I feel your pain too 😀
Thanks for stopping by mate, Up the Toffees!!
Maybe try some Motorpsycho soon. They have about 30 albums. Think you'll love the title track "Kingdom of Oblivion" as a starter. As a band, they cover Prog, rock, psych, shoe gaze, pop, jazz ...
yea... always live stuff of porcupine ... now you know why ... that's the level
all guitar solos are composed by Alex Lifeson.
Actually he didn’t it’s only the first solo he on this song.
Nice reaction! What's in the glencairn glass?
Bourbon, although I'm not sure which. This was one of my earlier videos before I started showing the bottle in every one since people kept asking "what's in the glass?" Thanks for stopping by.
@@ophreacts214 Thank you for answering. Music, whisky and whiskey = life. Enjoying a Noah's Mill right now. Kepp up the good content!
@@goodmusic6165 thanks man! Noah's Mill is one I've seen, but yet to try. Have to get to it sometime.
You should like normal by pt live
What's wrong with fps?
