- Here's me showing off some of my favorite glitches and tricks in this game! There are some things in here that very few people know/have seen so I hope you enjoy! A lot of times people ask if I can still play this game casually, and this is pretty much what it looks like. I'll mess around like this sometimes on my stream between world record attempts. Dunno if there's any relevance to this or not, I've done this before but only once ever got Mario bouncing out to the left like in the video. Every other time, other than the pause to let the bridge collapse and Bowser to fall, Mario jumped up and went straight down. Wonder if it matters the frame or whatever...
This glitch happened to me once as a kid. None of my friends believed me and i couldn’t duplicate it.

@@Mr_Snek and right you are! incredible how sound effects can be reused like that...on that note, the "rising" sound effect played briefly when a powerup comes out and for a bit longer when it's a vine, was translated into the endless stairs theme for super mario 64, now thats interesting

Imagine spending months on programing one of the world's most famous video games, only to find out the entire world is completely oblivious to your scoring system until 2020.
I've never seen someone with as much expertise and skill at a video game in my life. Not only do you know so much about this game, but you have the insane muscle memory required to pull off frame-perfect pixel-perfect tricks with ridiculous consistency. I could listen to you talk about this game for hours

I knew about the koopa point mechanics but thats about it lol. Super entertaining vid that taught me a lot about the game!
i've never been a speed-runner in any capacity, but I always loved trudging through the mario and sonic games as a kid. I distinctly remember encountering at least a handful of these glitches back in the day when I was like 7 years old, and either accepting them as random occurrences, or seeing enough of a pattern to reproduce them (the one where you put tiles close to the left edge of the screen then jump up to the top of the stage was one I found by accident, but subsequently tried to take advantage of whenever I could make it happen... getting the hidden 1-up in world 1-2 was the easiest example, because if you missed your chance to get on the two rows of destructable bricks, you could just inch forward a bit then backtrack and shimmy your way up the left side of the screen)
this video was lots of fun, and yes, where -you- hit a block dictates which direction something above it bounces :P
dude just does the absolutely most insane precise glitches I’ve ever seen in smb1 and doesn’t even break a sweat
At this point I'm not convinced that Kosmic isn't somehow Matrix-hacked into the game and just tells it to do whatever he wants.

A sub on twitch lasts a certain amount of time. Then it expires. A resub is basically someone that renewed their sub.
The "win/lose" at the same time glitch is still my favorite.😄

You remember when you accidentally clipped into the block below the pipe getting out of the water level? I was there, and I couldn’t have laughed more!
As you can see Super Mario Bros is a perfectly balanced game with no glitches whatsoever.
I've known about a lot of these things for decades, but not exactly why for some of them. Like, what exactly is the reason that Spinies can turn into Koopas when you hit the block they're standing on near the left edge of the screen? And, what determines the color of the Koopa you get?
Maybe it's the game trying to un-allocate memory from the spiny as it's playing its last few animation frames and as it deallocates it's setting memory to zero. Say the first couple of bits determine what type of enemy it is and then its position (position would probably be best to unallocate last). And while the game is unallocating it mario hits it which means that it should spawn an upside down animation of the enemy type hit and the green koopa just happens to be the 0th enemy? I'm no expert about how the nes allocates and unallocates memory but I know that the games were very limited and removing things that were unnecessary was important to get the game to run.
"Man clips through cannon, laughs his ass off" would also be a suitable title.
Distilled knowledge still just looks like Kosmic kicking ass.

After Mario died,Luigi decided to adventure the world in Mario's honour.
Strange that Super Mario didn't follow non-super Mario enemy physics. In the previous Mario game before Super Mario Bros. (the arcade game Mario Bros...still one of the best two player classic arcade games ever) the way the enemy bounced after you hit the floor from below DID depend on where it was and not where you hit it. I guess things were a little different in that Mario Bros. didn't have distinct blocks (although it must have had hitboxes), other than the POW block that only Flutterflies could ever go on, and only then fairly rarely.

10:17 This trick was the basis of hours of me grinding SMB Deluxe challenge scores back in the day (as well as a couple other Challenge-exclusive Koopa oddities). Do you know if the DX version has frame rules for getting up / checks for collision only every other frame?
oh man, I know deluxe is different in quite a few ways. I don't really know that much about it though!
Looking forward to seeing more of these. Not really a huge fan of the zoom-ins since it doesn't really look good for low-res games IMO, but they're few and far between so I'm not really bothered by them.

Have you ever considered speaking with the developer team of mario bros to share your tricks and even get new ideas from them? Also, have you spoken with Nintendo about your WR? A video of all that would be super cool

@@Kosmicd12 well, have you tried? Contacting Nintendo and asking if you could get the developers list that worked on the project so that you can meet them via social media? Being who you are (a freaking mario bros LEGEND) it should be possible and the talks with them would make so many views and would be so interesting... Try it Kosmic!
