We had the best music of any generation. We had music with violins and organs and people who actually sang those songs... I miss the world I grew up in. Spooky was a sweet song. Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤
The first time I heard this back in the '70's as a kid I really liked the energy and the cool vibe. Classic IV had some of the coolest songs from mid to the late 60's. Dennis voice was smooth and strong. So many great songs and artists from that era.
Forget the bad lip synching....what is important is that Classics IV and Denny Yost were an incredible sounding band that captured the feel, soul, funk of that era with this tune and others in their catalog. Yost had an irreplaceable vocal tone....no one sounds as good as he did, no matter how hard they try to cover it. Also, the sax solo was an integral element of the success of Spooky....but mostly it was that synchronized chord pattern turned in by the organ and guitar which made this track. Instead of major chords, the Classics introduced some diminished and 13th chords, adding suspenseful notes into the mix that created some tension and mood. We miss the era, the band, and certainly Mr. Yost. Great tune.
I used to listen to this track when I was living in Santa Monica in the 90s. Up and down the PCH 1 on an old Thunderbird bought at "Rent a Wreck" in LA... I felt like a king. A young italian boy livin' the american dream... Damned the day I got back to Italy...
Monica, Congrats on having a dad that was in the ClassicsIV. That is super cool. I was in my early teens when these guys were hot and it brings back great memories. Great group.
I heard this track nearly 30 years ago for the first time, took me ages to find out the artists, and have always loved it along with their other tracks now. Its heartbreaking though to look up the group members out of interest only to find many have left us. Your Dad looks too young there to have died by now, I hope you are very proud that he would have been aware that life is not a rehearsal, its for today and very precious. I hope you have happy memories of him. God bless x
WOW.......INCREDIBLE.....I had no idea.....I've just been on a major Jim Pepper ...relisten, of a relisten, of a relisten.......ONE OF THE GREATEST AND MOST UNDERRATED TENOR PLAYERS.......he got virtually no recognition in this country....only in Europe.....
@@jimness5902 No, and they had a white guy's hands playing that sax in the video! The guy playing those notes was obviously not white. No, I aint racist but I aint ever heard a white guy play a sax like that - and I'm a white guitar player whose been around, in lots of bands, did some recording, touring and giggin', played lots of jazz, blues, rock & roll, country AND western (YES they used to have BOTH!), dixieland, bluegrass, big band, swing, pop, R&B, everything but rap, hip hop, heavy metal, classical and opera...
So cute the way Dennis dances 2 the song while singing. He had the most amazing voice ever, IMHO. We lost him too soon..& there will never be another like him. Hav always loved this band & their awesome sound. 🙂🙂💕💕
@@allthebest6829 this sax player wasn't "in the band" - they just showed the hands of a white sax player from the studio band where they filmed the appearance of the Classics IV band in. The brother from Stormy video hadn't joined the band yet when they taped this.

One of the greatest songs of all time.
I just found my husband’s box of 45’s and this was one of them. I was in 8th grade when this came out.
Monica, your dad is the cutest! Love his hair. I was so young when they did this song, but he and Dennis would have been my crushes!

I agree, I wish they had made numerous more smash hits other than Spooky or Traces and Stormy.
Good critique of such a classic song.
@@Idelia412 Yea, this guy could really sing.
@@mando8222 Same!!
This song has such a haunting sound. One of my all time favorites first hearing it the week after Christmas in 1967 on KHJ L.A.
KHJ _"Boss"_ radio 📻 *KRLA* also 🎶
93 Khj. L .A . Real Don steele
@@mikehersh6192 How about Humble Harve?
@@Idelia412 - Yes indeed. I believe he actually has murdered his wife. 😗
Don't forget Boss Jocks Robert W Morgan or Charlie Tuna

But isn't the drummer cute?????? He's my Dad!!!!
Cool!
Awesome! I would be very very proud. The drumming was great!! He was so young. Wow...

I hear this playing all the time on our local oldies station.
That Mr Ronnie Laws on Sax 🎷🎷🎷
Back in 67 my dating song with a girl name IRENE, MY how time flys the best years of life!!
Holy shit. I think I've just been transported to 1968.
One of my fav. songs EVER!!!!!
What a neat song! Love it...
I love this song&lyrics!!!
Jim Pepper did the sax solo for the song on the album. He was Kaw-Muskogee Native American.
wow..didn't know that!

The Upbeat Show from Cleveland Ohio back in 1968. RIP Mr Don Webster the Host of the Upbeat Show.
He was also the weatherman on Channel 5
Awesome!
Thanks so much MusicVideoTrader--vintage gold. None of the later covers of this capture the feel of this original
💖Wow sure some great dance 💃 moves👍👍💕💕
I have always like this song 🎵 i don't know why ,I think because it different
Always loved Dennis yost, but your dad the drummer, is gorgeous!sorry this comment was meant for spooky, but these guys i love too!
great group and still touring with Happy Together Tour
This song is groovy 👀
The best bands create their own distinct portal to another reality, whether they succeed for 4 songs or 40.
Legendary
Luis Vargas so was your mom
Dennis looks a little toasted!!
A little?!? 😜
Great band.
Magic
That guy is actually just doing the washing up and not playing keys at all.
Dang, you're right. They hide the brother in this one, but he's right out front on "Stormy".
I was wondering that same thing
Different sax player. This one was white.

Will Byers/Noah Schnapp strangers things on bass and the Charlie brown peanuts cheering on at the end!
Always wondered if Bez could sing.
Kim venable on drums.. very cool.. rip
I give him a pass on the bad lip synch cuz that's a badass song!
Behind The Green Door
it has to be time someone produced a decent mashup using this footage?
True classic. Love this song. No, the Atlantic Rythmn Section didn't write this song. Classics IV.
💝🙏
I am looking for any jazz renditions or other singers doing this song
Janet Caterina obviously there’s Dusty’s version.
Do you have access to "The Critters" on Upbeat?
Dennis Yost reminds me of Bobby Brady in this one
@Edward hamrock I know
But alot of people I know don't know him by his real name that's why I referred to him as Bobby Brady
I'm hetro. He is very cute
What happened to the Sax player?
Why is he dancing like that?
The question is: why aren't you!!!??? :D :D :D
LoMejor....
They kind of hide the black guy in two of their videos.
That's messed up he got down on the Sax, hes very badass
The sax player in this video was white and not part of the band.
...I imagine that back in the sixties was still difficult the race issues. However I saw that the Sax guy in a video and pictures.
DID DENNIS YOST HAVE A SPEACH IMPEDIMENT IN HIS EARLY DAYS? WHEN SINGING SPOOKY IN THIS VIDEO..HE SOUNDS LIKE SYLVESTER THE CAT!!!
...👎👎
Yes, it's a lip sync.. why is that?...
I feel like a lot of these videos replace the original audio when they're uploaded. Not sure exactly why.
Great song, but that's one of the worst examples of lip syncing I've ever seen.
What in the hell is wrong with this
