Yeah, and the one the moose dragged away in "Winter Mist" (Episode 4). But honestly, Bob always preferred bushes and trees to people. Very few of his paintings had any chimneys. All the buildings were old. Never any indications of human civilization.
Abby Ray Newth “I’m a big time hunter. I take my camera to the woods and I shoot them with the camera” - Bob Ross. It’s the only right way to shoot an animal 😊

one30am Yes, that would have been awesome, hey, when I have mastered interdimensional travel, I'll find a Bob Ross from an Alternate reality and maybe see if he can do this 👍🏾
Normally I wouldn't dare criticize Bob... but you are right about the bushes. I think they look like corals because they are missing shadows... & the highlights on them look like they're coming from the front which end up brightening the foreground and the image kinda loses it's point of interest of the contrasting mountains with the sky. Bob is not a commercial artist though so he's not bound by as many rules.. more freedom to experiment etc
First the hunter doesn't come back from the hunt and now the old trapper dies? Why, Bob? Maybe you should've beat the devil out of that brush a bit more because it sounded like you had some happy little frustrations still lurking about.
I suspect this is just an excuse for there to not be any people in his paintings (because as he mentions later, portraiture never really worked for him). And to have his buildings look really rundown. But it does make a kind of strange and funny counterpoint to the cheerful, laid-back atmosphere.
He was so casual about him drowning. Lol. If you've noticed he always painted very solitary scenes. Hardly any human contact. Solitary cabins which look like no one is home. No chimney, no lights on.
1) Doesn't everyone just love how Bob always has a story to his painting 2) only Bob can tell about a trapper drowning in the most calm voice ever R. I. P Boss Ross May he live as a happy little tree
As someone who was born in Alaska, it's always wonderful to see just how many little Alaskan things Bob does. He uses Native terms to talk about boots and the word for outsiders and he even sticks a little lean-to shed onto the side of the cabin. These are all signs of a man who spent a very, very long time in the almighty North. Stay there long enough, and while you may someday leave Alaska, it never really leaves you.
In Bobs mind that trapper had one of the happiest most fulfilled lives of any man to ever lived. I'm picturing an old stubborn man in his late 60s with some bad luck near the end of the season. Being a trapper for the last 50 years, successful enough to have a happy little cabin standing in your dream spot for the last 40 years.

I love those stories. The only ones who usually meet a tragic ending are the cabin owners who are trying to kill things in his paintings. It is his painting, his happy little world and he's not having it. I have thought about doing one of these paintings and depicting the unfortunate demise of one of the cabin owners. Sometimes I have a wee bit of a happy little dark sense of humor.

I think there was a lot of white noise in the background of these first-season videos and when they realized this (probably after filming them all, I think he filmed a season in a couple days) they decided the only thing to do was to distract from that white noise with a little piano. I'm just glad this episode doesn't have the same two songs they used ad nauseam for a few episodes a bit ago :-)
Another beautiful painting. I just wish he would have put the rainbow halo around the moon you sometimes see. I honestly think that would have been a tremendous addition.
So far, this is my favorite painting of Ross'. The moonlit night, the cold Alaska mountains, the morbid trappers death, the murder weapon hidden beneath the planks of wood in the old cabin, or the body possibly frozen under the lakes glass surface. This is one of his best pieces I have seen so far. But I'm trying to watch every episode. I really enjoy his Black out canvas, that he builds on from scratch. It's like the painting is already there, he is just pushing it out through his brush.
