Legend has it that when Eric goes beyond 90° on his sax he ascends.
holy crap that alto solo is good
heck yeah it is
Eric is one of the best alto sax players of this era
Single handedly the best saxophone solo I've ever heard
*John Coltrane would like to know your location*
Eric marienthal is on the short list of players you almost have to watch play to really understand what's going on. He uses so many alternate fingerings and awkward trills and funky extended technique that it's just impossible to really get the full experience without the video.
last year eric played with our highschool band and it was a phenomenal performance
The level of detail in the articulations alone on he's 16th note runs is almost inhuman. I'm reading a transcription of it but I don't think I'll ever get those runs quite like he does.
Hey do you still have the transcription?
@@isaiahd9947 if you look it up you should be able to find one on CZcams.
I just noticed the drummer used musical quotes from Caravan. That is AWESOME
he (bernie dresel) actually recorded the drums for the final scene in whiplash
Sal at 5:45: "Shit, did I leave the stove on?"
lol
Yall are sleeping on the percussion solo, its playing in the back of my mind 24/7!!
Anytime I just need a killer sax solo I come back to this 😂 what a legend
Those are some brave dancers.
Probably paid dancers, it is Disney world.
That bari sax, though!
+Kirusha Lanski I've played that part and its a fu**ing b*tch haha
Thicc boi
Nice and P H A T
I was in the audience that night; GREAT SHOW!!! Dan Savant and I used to play in the same band "back in the day". He introduced my son, a sax player, to Eric Marienthal who agreed to give him lessons when not on tour.
that sax solo is grotesque, INSANE. I cannot get over it!! had to rewind twice
Before they started playing I noticed the bass player practicing his fingerings
Awesome
Astronautical Films Probably because he'd just been playing that upright for a bunch of tunes, probably just getting his electric muscle memory set.
It's so awesome to see Sal so into Eric's solo
That alto solo!!!!
+Jack Ready altissimo/harmonics are the one thing on sax that I've never been able to get right, but I always wished I could
Better solo here than on the original recording!!
You'll love this czcams.com/video/7qtiJfajkLU/video.html
True
That's a stretch, but it's still really good
Not quite
Brian Scanlon:
Pardon me, but what the fuck?
I'm a guitarist and Eric is my idol.
Marienthal was the guy that got me to really start working on my altissimo. I wish I had half the skill he has on that solo!
Eric Marienthal steals the show! I've been a fan of his since Corea's Elektric Band.
As a fan of the Brian Setzer Orchestra I really appreciate great big band jazz and swing. This band is incredible and of course Bernie is the perfect drummer for this.
Everything about this performance is total perfection... The energy and talent radiating through the entire band from Eric's solo all the way to Bernie's percussion break with a hint of Ringo at the end! Can't stop watching this. Musicians of the highest caliber right here! 👌
THE BARII SOUNDS SO GOOD
Love it!...sounds like music from a 1960s British spy movie. Fun stuff.
Super jazz band!!!Sax alto very beautiful!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
They danced to the drum solo 😂
Like the little nod to the Beatles drum solo..."and, in the end... the love you give..."
Nice Ringo quote from the drummer!!
The musicianship here is as good as it gets ...what a treat to hear these guys play.
+Doug Skinner amen to that. Incredible to watch/listen to
Did anyone else catch that the drummer quoted Ringo's solo from "The End"?
Funny thing, I had to check the replies to see if I was the first to notice. :-)
I think most of us probably noticed, it's such an iconic drum solo.
Josh Garside-Meyers One of the best Drum solos out there!
THIS BAND IS OUT OF SIGHT. THEY GOT THE TEMPO, BEAT, RIGHT INSTRUMENTS (and the right people playing them!) THE DRUMS ARE FABULOUS. THE "THE JAZZ POLICE", JUST HAD ME UP AND DANCING IN MY HOUSE. I NEVER COULD STAY STILL TO MUSIC LIKE THIS! IS THIS GROUP STILL PLAYING TOGETHER? W O W!! SYLVIA - FL- 03/29/2019
This is an awesome piece!!! I played this with my Grade 8 stage band (I was tuba #1)
i can remember playing this at disney as senior in my jazz band and as i sit and watch i wish could take some of those chops Bernie used back. Nice 🤌🏾
Holy hell that alto solo was amazing
Our marching band used this in our 4th movement for our most recent show. It was really good
So amazing... the group... Gordon!! Gordon Goodwin is also an amazing tenor sax player... search "Space Available - Bill Watrous" to see him crush a tenor solo back in the 80's. I couldn't help noticing the comments about the dancers below. I've played trombone in the Big Time Jazz Orchestra for 25+ years and we have a saying: If we're making music and people are enjoying it, who cares if they're dancing... an audience is an audience!
Mmmmm that bari sax
3:01 YEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷
I'm working on getting technical solos good lol right now I'm just playing simple rythms
とても素晴らしいです!🙌かっこいい
Wow, that is one sick saxophone solo!!!
I love this song! Gotta love the sax solo.
What a solo
performed this for a school concert… easiest the funnest piece to play so far on bari. (Minus solos)
Sad the Guitar solo wasn't included, but at least we got a solo from the rhythm section!
FAB sax solo!! FAB orchestra!!
Drummer really quoted caravan like that
Loved playing this song in high school, such a fun song and these are the absolute best guys to play it
:D i love this song i played this on trombone this year xP
*Solos:*
Alto Sax: Eric Marienthal (3:01)
Percussion: Brad Dutz (4:12)
Drums: Bernie Dresel (4:12)
Yes😎
I love the people just slow dancing while the drummer is just DESTROYING the kit😭
This is truly amazing im in love with this solo
genius lead trumpet in this band
Fabulous Band....I have several of their cds........
they came to my school and played amazing they used their bass clarinet for their own version of rhapsody in blue by gershwin
What a fine band! Love the driving power and precision of these incredible musicians. Hats off to the arranger(s), too! Reminds me of Johnny Keating, Maynard Ferguson, Kenton's Contemporary Concepts band. What a delight. Thanks very much for posting this!
Jerbob1 That's not an arrangement... That's the original
Great pocket Sam! Tasty and clean!
i got a lesson with Jay Mason on Baritone, and it was truely the most incredible experience of my life
Bro, Eric is amazing...
2023 and counting...
Awesome but can't believe the lead trumpet bailed on the last note. Super B wimp!!!
Amazing Guys!!
Just saw GG & TBFB live at Royce Hall. Still smoldering... Crank it up and strap in at 1:10. These guys set the standard.
.
Just wow.
Get it Jay Mason on Bari! WHOOO!
So awesome :D
Jesus that is kicking !!!!!!
awesome sax solo !
lmao I was just about to type that
You're all here for 3:01
These guys should do the theme from The Flintstones! They would rock it!!!
Playing this in my middle school band
Eric Marienthal rocking as usual
Scary good.............
This music is just too damn fun
Check out Sal's face on Eric's solo fro 3:10..priceless ! 😵💫😝
Why are they dancing to the drum solo
+Jacob Bulloch rekt em
Why not?
Cause it's good
Such Good
Very Wow
EEEiiiiiiiiiii!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Erick Marienthal sin duda alguna 🤩
erick mi amo y señor
once again eric is dominating
Is That "Red" Summers? (OK real name Bob!) He used to play in my big band in Boston in the Berklee days (@ early 70's) Great jazz player!
Slamming. Wouldn't mind fronting you cats with my charts. Great work.
We're playing this for school marching band for the Nebraska state fair. We're not as good as this... but oh well.
Our marching band at my school used this for the closer for our competition show just last year. Look it up, Centerville Jazz Band Boa grand nationals 2018
I know the lick at 3:25 is a quote but I don’t know what’s it’s from. Anyone recognize it?
It’s probably a coincidence but the part of the drum solo at 5:44 reminds me of Ringo’s drum solo from the Beatles’ The End
A little bit of Beatles drums at the end of the solo!
thats sweet dude, i wish that bernie was educating div 1 so he give us the best rhythm section
I saw the Alto player Eric marienthal live at a concert once.
how nice they are dancing without caring anything about the music...hahaha!
YES! this is so good! love it!!!
at 2:53 you can hear sal saying "wow"
Played this in pep band
Bernie came to our school! .0.
Anyone notice that last 20 seconds of the sun solo is almost the same as ringo starr's solo from "the end" by the beatles?
Yeah fair one.
eric is a fckn beast
OMG Eric freaking Marienthal 3:02 - 4:13 =D =D =D =D
That sax solo tho
