    This video has ensured that I will keep my MCU1 for as long as possible. Thanks for sharing your experience Anthony.

    The MCU2 is night and day to MCU1 on my P90D. I love it, the Theater Apps are great while charging. Glad you updated.

      I'm certainly grateful that Tesla has innovated on the MCU tech so that we have something better to upgrade our MCU with instead of having to replace the entire vehicle to get updated tech. I still think it's overpriced for what you're getting if your original MCU1 is still working (albeit slowly). Part of my thought process is I think of the level of laptop computer I could purchase for $1,877 and I think of all the things I could do with that laptop and I'd get way more benefit for the money spent on a regular laptop than for an MCU. However a laptop cannot interface with my vehicle so I'm kinda stuck having to buy the MCU if my current one isn't working. In short I agree MCU2 is certainly better than MCU1, but it's not better than computers in general at it's price point. It's not a perfect apples to apples comparison I know.

      @@ElectricTechAdventures My MCU1 was dying a slow death and needed hard rebooting everyday or so, so I got the upgrade with the radio for 2k last summer. Almost everything is improved except the charging info (which you pointed out). I use the Theater Apps so I may be getting more out of the upgrade. I do understand needing to keep that herd of kids you have out and burning energy when you charge though ;0). Bringing the car up to 2020 standards (excluding Auto Pilot) was a great deal IMO.

      I'm still on mcu1 with only the 64gb memory free upgrade when I started having crashes last year. Since the 64gb free upgrade never had issues a bit slow but still usable. The Memory was the mane problem for the crashes and not the mcu1

    I have a 2015 S 85D. After about 3 months I find as I found initially the new chip and radio upgrade for $2700 provided a stronger radio signal. Changing from 21 inch tires to 19 inch tires was a better change. However, the change is done. My computer on wheels runs and the Tesla remote service is great. I like my sunroof. Then, just a real radio with the stations I want would be an improvement, too.

    if you have split temp set. it will only show driver side when no front passenger. when you have front passenger it shows spilt temp

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Před rokem

      In my Model S I can adjust the temperature of the heating/cooling when there's no passenger in the car and there's a link to tap on called "split" which then shows or hides the passenger side HVAC controls and I can toggle that on when I'm by myself in the car. When it's on then the passenger temperature shows all the time even if they're not sitting there.

    FYI I can do the "Schedule" and "Charge Stats" options on my MCU1. It doesn't appear to be exclusive MCU2 features.

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Good to know. I was just going off my experience that it didn't show up in the app until we had the MCU upgrade, but it might have just been that our MCU1 hadn't received the version 11 software update yet (as it was very slow to get updates) and when we got MCU2 it jumped forward into the new software version 11 which then added the schedule feature to the mobile app at that time.

    4:03 it's my understanding that the lines we see on the video are caused by the asynchronous condition between the MCU and the phone camera. I could be wrong on that but that's what I've always understood

    Thanks for another great CZcams. My car (same year) does not respond to most ot the controls on the phone (open frunk, unlock, start, open rear hatch, .....). I tried exiting the phone app and then loging back in, but my phone still does not control the above-listed items. Does your car?

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Před rokem +2

      Yes my phone app does control all of the functions like opening the frunk or turning on the HVAC system and it did before the MCU replacement as well. Sounds like there is something going on there that perhaps they can diagnose remotely for free and then give you a quote on it if it's going to require hardware replacement.

    I just picked up a 14 P85 and really thinking about this. I had an appt today to get the EMMC memory module replaced under recall but may just go this route. I also have the delaminating issue going on. Think it was 1000% worth it? Plan on keeping my car for a long time so lingering towards yes but it is an investment!

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Před 11 měsíci

      My conclusion in the video is where I still stand, which is that if your MCU1 is still working and if you don't expect to be gaming or watching streaming media then the price is too expensive for MCU2 just to be a faster interface. The delamination was just cosmetic so not really an issue for me. When our navigation stopped working though, that was a deal breaker and required upgrading to MCU2. Without navigation, taking the car on road trips (which we do often) would be very risky. We heavily rely on the estimated arrival percentage while on road trips. Since you intend to keep the car for a long time (as do we) that makes the price more worth paying since you'll get benefit for a long time to come. If I were in your shoes, if they replace the EMMC memory module under the recall and your MCU is working then I'd just keep the MCU1 until it fails then upgrade at that time. The risk of course is changing prices as with anything, but it could go up or down...you never know with Tesla.

    I am a new buyer of a 2016 model S. How can I tell if my car has an MCU1 or MCU2?

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Před 10 měsíci

      If you go into the settings then software screen in the Tesla then click on additional hardware information there's a line for Infotainment processor. In my car with MCU1 it showed NVIDIA Tegra on that line. After the upgrade to MCU2 it showed Intel Atom on that line. Additionally I've talked to service advisors in person at the service center before and they were willing to look through the service history of my car and verbally tell me everything that had been done to the car prior to my ownership and that's been helpful to know what's been done to my specific vehicle in the past.

    Did you get 5g connectivity and Wi-Fi? I have exact same spec as you.

    • @ElectricTechAdventures
      @ElectricTechAdventures  Před rokem

      My vehicle was previously upgraded to 4G connectivity years ago before I purchased the vehicle, and in this MCU update there was no mention of cellular connectivity being anything different. I believe I'm still on 4G, but there's no indication on the screen of that. In short I don't know, but I don't think the MCU upgrade changes or upgrades the cellular components which are I believe in the passenger side mirror. I had and still have WiFi as well.
