- Almost one year ago, Patrick and I were married 2 days after the mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Ed Bacon's healing sermon on the power of LOVE in the face of fear, violence, bigotry, injustice and HATE was so deeply comforting during that painful time. Here we are again. Another mass shooting as a result of bigotry and hate. As we grieve for those innocent people tragically taken from us in Orlando, I went back to this video and found his words were more profound and meaningful than ever. Thank you, Ed, for reminding us that there is hope and that we are powerful.
"This kind of love is the solution for every problem we have in the world. Where there's injustice, where there's poverty, where there's bigotry, where there's racism, where there's violence, this is the answer."

The descriptions of the Romans on homosexuality is very different from what gays are today. In fact, the kindest and wisest of young people are raised by good parents, and so all of the gay parents out there. Gay parents promote good ideas and knowledge to their children even if they have many of them. Adopted children can change under their care and raised with kindness and love, without the introduction of bad behaviours and habits. So if people denied about same sex marriages or any issues regarding LGBTQ rights, look around your neighborhood and see if there are any happy couples living in peace.

It is a lifelong struggle to subdue and mortify my sin nature and inclination to self gratification. But it is all about our "acts" " and "meditations." I am a reforming sinner. I know when I am doing wrong. My conscience warns me. Frankly, my "flesh nature" wishes you were right, that I could do whatever I like in the guise of say... the Beatles "Love Love Love" playing in the background... that I could count on God to indulge me. I say "ditto" to the below comments that contain a positive message for both the couple in question and praise for the sentiments of Jesus Christ as expressed by the priest. As always, however, these type threads encourage the scriptural ignorant as well as the hate-mongers to crawl out from underneath their rocks. Fortunately, I think that the majority of people today, including more and more Christians, are acknowledging that love trumps hate ...always, always!
While the above are my opinions, I also like to come at the issue of homosexuality and gay marriage from a biblical perspective. Jesus was never recorded as having said anything at all about homosexuality and gay marriage. Nothing! While He DID speak against divorce and remarriage - which is RAMPANT in our churches! - homosexuality simply did not appear to be on His radar. He also had a field day dealing with the Pharisees of His day, those that are the equivalents of the Christian Fundamentalists of OUR day. Jesus referred to them as hypocrites who were more concerned about the speck in their neighbor's eye than with the log in their own eye.
So, does the Bible condemn homosexuality? Well, before anything else we need to understand that the Bible IS NOT God ...it's a BOOK written by mortal men! "Ah yes," some may say, "But these men were 'inspired' by God!" Really? Where did that come from?
THAT belief is a man-made concept. Nowhere do the Bible authors make the claim that they were divinely inspired to write the books of the Bible. To be sure, there's a lot of good stuff in the Bible but there is also a lot of horrible stuff that makes the God of the Old Testament to be nothing more than a tyrant who throws 'hissy-fits' and zaps people out of existence in a manner that few of us mere mortals would ever dream of doing!
But anyway, what DOES the Bible say about homosexuality? This might come as a shock to the 'religiously brainwashed' folks but the Bible actually says very little or even NOTHING about homosexuality as we today define the term. The word "homosexual" OR the EQUIVALENT terms for 'homosexual' in the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek languages ARE NOWHERE FOUND IN THE ORIGINAL SCRIPTURES! That word is not even found in the King James Bible! Only in some post-1946 Bibles are references made to homosexuality. The authors of these Bibles took liberties and placed the term 'homosexual' corruptly in their Bibles based either on ignorance of original terms or because of their own anti-gay agenda!
There are less than a half-dozen brief references in the ENTIRE Bible where male/male sex, one only of which vaguely refers to 'unnatural' activity by women, is ever mentioned. And, IN ALL CASES, these are references to idolatry worship practices involving sacred male shrine temple prostitutes! A 'sodomite' was the name given to such male prostitutes who serviced both men and women in ritualistic worship practices performed to appease the gods in return for 'supernatural' favors. The majority of Christians don't know this because this is never preached in church. And so, they remain in ignorance and are instead fed an anti-gay message of bigotry and hatred toward the very neighbor that Jesus instructed us to love!
Bigotry and hatred have to be stamped out PRONTO since these are the very traits that Jesus condemned. As said, more and more Christian denominations are becoming 'gay affirming' churches and this is a HUGE PLUS for Christianity!

Nice ceremony. It’s odd however that the celebrant indicated his personal theology on love & not the theology of the church initiated by Christ & developed by countless theologians over 2thousand + years. Love isn’t a feeling, like he mentioned. Love is an action..a verb, we determine if it lives or dies, we don’t ‘feel’ it. This is why personal theology tends to become an issue.
If you strip away it’s current facade & get to its core, the founder himself reiterated traditional Jewish scripture as marriage being monogamous & a life long joining between man/woman.
I’m not against gay marriage btw. Fully support the secular legalisation of it, just think it’s odd some gay ppl wanna be married in a Christian church knowing it’s foundation stone is rooted in everything against what they’re doing. Doesn’t seem a good omen to a start a life long commitment.
