Alright, it's been a while since I posted this, so I'd like to let you all know that I covered a good chunk of the engines I missed in this video here: czcams.com/video/miWm24aWVIs/video.html
If I still missed an engine, let me know in the comments of that video!
I think SP 18 narrow gauge locomotives is on the Durango and Silverton RR
You also messed the cab forward
The SP is my personal favorite railroad
Well SP 2472 is restored this month (i think) and is getting test fired and she performed well
10:41 SP 4449 and UP 8444 (UP 844) made a side by side run to Sacramento and reminds me N&W 611 and 1218 side by side during the NRHS Convention.
SP 2467, is not in serviceable condition. In spring of 2000, she was her way to Oakdale for the iron horse roundup. On her way over Altamont pass, she slipped a main driver brass. The axle was badly scored, as the brass was almost melted off! She was dead headed to Sacramento, where she resides to this day.
My uncle was a locomotive mechanic on the IC. That kind of repair is what they did every day.
UPDATE ON NEW VIDEOS:
Due to some personal things getting in the way, as well as school, I have not had the time to produce many new videos recently. I have several videos in the works however, including A Look Back At Canadian National Excursion Engines, however that video has been placed on the back burner as of right now. I'm not sure when my next upload will be but I hope to get at least something out by the end of the month. I am still taking suggestions for videos, just know that it will be a while before they will be made. Also, I will be starting a Nascar stop motion series soon on another channel, so stay tuned for that. Thank you all for your patience.
You forgot southern Pacific 786 and southern Pacific 794
794 never operated after her service on the SP, 786 only operated in tourist service on the A&TC for a few years before being retired for a rebuild.
You also forgot southern pacific 4-10-2 No. 5021
And 4274
Hey you forgot No. 4294
786 and 2479 are my favorite engines from Southern Pacific
This video is so awesome and thank you for featuring southern Pacific 4449 and southern Pacific 745 and besides you missed a few locomotives. It’s still really awesome that you done this. And to me this very special as southern Pacific 745 is my favorite Steam locomotive of all time. And I want to thank you for this video.
I really love the SP locomotive 4449 and it's personal operation history, I really wish that SP 4460 would be restored back to operating condition as well, but the possibility of that happening is very low. I think that the 4460 would make a great companion for the 4449 and both locomotives could doublehead excursion trains together on certain occasions, Southern Pacific rr had some very attractive looking 4-8-4 type locomotives back during the steam era.
Enjoyed this video. I was especially glad to know what happened to 1744. My brother worked at Hepper when 1744 operated there and she is the only SP steam I have ridden in the cab of during operation. Though just a Mogal, she has a soft spot in my heart and I am glad to know where she is at. Was hoping to see her run in Colorado, but I missed out. Maybe some day.
Thanks for the comment! The info in this video regarding its current status is now outdated, actually. It was recently purchased by the Niles Canyon Railway and will be moved to their HQ in Sunol, CA sometime in the future.
Missed the atx steam association Sp mikado that broke down in 99 and has been in “restoration” since. Sp 771 will always have a place in my heart as the sister of the atx mikado, 771 sat in a park in Victoria tx for a long time before they moved it to grapevine which bothers me because it has had nothing done to it.
The 771 was worn out.
This was extremely enjoyable and would relish in the topic at three times it’s length- great job!
Pretty good.
Update: 1744 has been purchased by the niles Canyon railway and is being restored to operation for service along the line
Link to NCRY website www.ncry.org/about/collection/steam/sp1744/
Great to know she’ll be getting another chance to run again
@@atsfevan0242 I agree.
@@atsfevan0242 I hope to see in service, when it’s done.
Great work. 745 was built in Algiers, Louisiana, on the west bank of the river in greater New Orleans. However, it is pronounced "Al--JEERS." Algiers was the eastern end-of-the line for Southern Pacific until around the late 1960s or early 1970s, when the yard there, and the locomotive works and what-have-you were closed. Prior to 1935, there was passenger service, via ferry, across the river into the SP depot in New Orleans. But once the Huey P. Long bridge opened, the ferry service was abandoned.
The intro of the video is great it feels like the intro to a “classic southern pacific steam” DVD
The locomotives used on the American Freedom Train should have been presented in their historical livery as a bona fide historical exhibit. The engines should have been decked out with flags and bunting in accordance with protocol for such a commemorative display.
Man it’s like you’re the only youtubers to ever tell the history about 4449
4449 is still owned by the city of Portland.
Nice video. Very informative and lots of good photos.
4449 was also in the movie tough guys
SP #1744 (a mogel) was sold to the Pacific Locomotive Association and is being rebuilt and reassembled to operate on their Niles Canyon RR
I was going to say that the intro music sounds really nice! Although I’m pretty sure the channel that posted it got terminated. So I can’t really listen to the full version now. What a shame.
Theres a video of number 18 blowing a piston 😂
@00:06:38 Correction: Southern Pacific 1744 is now owned by the Niles Canyon Railway in California.
Awesome video
Can you do a look back a norfolk and western excursion engines
Yeah, but it won't be released any time soon due to a combination of school work, personal stuff, and a back log of other requests, as well as some other projects that I've been working on.
I wish there where other many Southern Pacific GS Class steamers surviving in museums
My 2 favorite Southern Pacific steam locomotives on this list are GS-4 4449 & GS-6 4460 although you missed a few facts about 4449. After her trip to Rail-Fair '81 in Sacramento, California 4449 had to be rebuilt due to the many miles that she consumed under her 80 inch drive wheels during the American Freedom Train tour. In 1984 4449 traveled from Portland, Oregon to New Orleans, Louisiana to become a part of Southern Pacific's display at the World's Fair. In 1986 4449 traveled from Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles, California to become a Hollywood train star in the movie Tough Guys & 4449 was also featured in the movie Come See the Paradise. In late 1988 4449 pulled an excursion from Portland, Oregon to Bend, Oregon & returned to Portland, Oregon. In February of 1989 4449 traveled from Portland, Oregon to Wenatchee, Washington to pull passenger trains between Wenatchee to Leavenworth, Washington. In 1991 4449 returned to Sacramento, California to participate in the 10th year anniversary exhibition of the California State Railroad Museum.
4449's excursion trips that I have listed above are her excursion trips that she ran between Rail-Fair '81 & 4449's 2012 Deschutes steam special & her mandatory Federal Railway Administration's 15 year rebuild & boiler recertification.
Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!
Your welcome man. I've got a suggestion for 1 of your future train videos you can make another list & title it as "Top 20 American Steam Excursion Locomotive Stars That Are In Operation Or On Display As Of 2019".
@@Buynot I hope to see Southern Pacific 4449. I know, I may possibly see Southern Pacific 1744 at the Niles Canyon Railway when it’s back in operation.
In May of 2019, 745 went down for its 15-year FRA inspection :(
Does the inspection/rebuild last 12 years or does it take place every 15 years
Just asking
@@awesomeaustin5704 mandated every 15 years since the first steam up, or after 1472 service days (days that the Locomotive is under steam)
It's pronounced Al-jeer-s
Also, technically 745 never really pulled Excursions, it just toured. Hopefully, when we go into and get out of her 1472, she will pull more excursions, instead of our Small Christmas train we started in 2017
Harriman Fox Your statement about SPX 745 not pulling excursions is not correct. While on display for the Opening of the Railroad Museum in Kansas City she ran three excursions. One of the pictures is her running the excursion out of Pittsburg, Kansas. She is on a bridge with The Hankins car, one of our green cars, behind the tender pulling 3 stainless steel cars full of passengers. The other two were trips to two cities north of Kansas City. I was on the Pittsburg trip but was not on the other two. She also ran several Christmas trains in New Orleans until she went down for her 1472 day / 15 year inspection / rebuild which is on going now.
She was also in several movies. The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, Jonah Hex, Listerine on Sunday, and a few more smaller movies.
Bill Morris
LASTA COO, Engineer, and Fireman
@@billmorris2613 I know of the short NOPB excursions, since I was a car attendant on them, but I wouldn't really count them as mainline excursions, nor the few RDCs it pulled in missouri. 745 tecnically only did mainline tours as there technically no paying passengers on board.
Aidan .W
5 year volunteer at LASTA, former car attendant
Harriman Fox I suggest you look up the definition of excursion. All those I mentioned above fit that definition.
8:50 Awesome! You used Dvorak Symphony 9 1st movement!
Love this video, btw I do recall they're being a SP locomotive out in San Antonio Texas
4460 deserves another chance to run again 🚂🖤🤍
2472 was moved to her new location in March.
One of the cab forwards would love to see a part 2
I'm surprised that S.P. 2248 didn't make the list, with her having the longest career as an excursion engine out of all the one's listed.
Yeah, I missed 2248 when I first made this video, however, I did end up covering it later in the series. That video can be found here: czcams.com/video/miWm24aWVIs/video.html
@@Buynot thank you
1744 is my favorite! Go little mogul, go!!!!!!
Southern pacific is my all time favorite railroad
intersting fact some people don't know is that SP 2353 appeared in this.
czcams.com/video/8c7VWaIXbrw/video.html
Skip to 10:30 to see her. This was filmed about a year or 2 before she steamed again on the museum.
SP 745 is currently getting a rebuild
Would you do the NYC Hudsons with Schubert's Serenade Boston pops .
In my opinion, 2248 should've been on the list seeing as she did have not only a regular career but also fought fires on Donner Pass
Edit: Just found the look back vid on engines that had been missed and just scrolled through it untill I found her
18 is now in service at the Durango and sliverton
Correct! I got to see her operating myself back in July. Footage from that trip can be found here: czcams.com/video/gDmK4DJgdbc/video.html
My favorites are sp 4449, 2472, 1744, and 745.
I have a question maybe you could do a video on is there any Rock Island Railroad steam locomotives left in existence also you can do a video on Frisco 1522 there's hardly any mountain class that exists let alone run I think 15-22 was the only Mountain class I've ever seen running in the modern era peace out
My favorite is SP while commute to high school between 1968 to 1973 then on for years. I'm glad SP saved most steam engines but I wish SP should save at least one Trainmaster locomotive!
Quick correction Sp 4449 can't operate in Portland no longer because the oregon Pacific has banned it from their tracks
make a look back at union pacific excursion engines
Also, 5021 was restored in 1961, but was taken out of service 1963
Do one for Union Pacific locomotives
Southern pacific 5021 the locomotive used in the horror movie "sometimes they come back"?
Yes it was, but it was never an excursion locomotive
I live near the 745 and even visited the yard it’s kept in and sadly, according to locals, it is unlikely the 745 will run for some time due to slow funding and lack of volunteers. The last time it ran, according to my knowledge,
was Christmas of 2018.
Last time it was fired was early may 2019, days before the 15 year deadline
I love this Video
A look back at southern railway excursion engines? The American one?
I would love to do a video on Southern Railway excursion engines! That video might not be out for a while as there have been many different suggestions that have been made since this video came out. Eventually I'll be able to make it, just not in the near future.
Buynot okay. Thanks!
do frisco look back
While not truly a Southern Pacific engine, you forgot the Cotton Belt 819! As a wholey owned subsidiary of Southern Pacific transportation, the St. Louis South-Western Railway class L-1 4-8-4 #819 deserves inclusion in this video as one of eSPee's steam excursion engines.
You make a good point. I'll be sure to include it in a later video!
I want to see 2479 and 2467 run again 🚂
Hello from Kansas 🇺🇸
the full reason they dont take out 2467 out anymore is because it needs an expensive new journal bearing fabricated after one of them burned up the last time the steamed it up, only time may tell
Southern Pacific - The Friendly S.P
You missed sp 3420 and sp 2248
11:28 is it weird that I think that 4449 looks really good in that paint scheme?
Not sure how you could forget the OLDEST SP engine to pull excursions for SP and other railroads... 2248...
hey can you make more videos like a look back at c&o excursion engines a look back at n&w excursion engines and a look back at prr excursion engines.
4449 was so cool
Ayy!! Its my favorite girl! 2467!
whats the music at the beginning of 4449’s entry? ( 8:52 )
Dvorak New World Symphony
You did miss one excursion engine Southern Pacific number 2248 As seen on my CZcams Profile this is an engine to be mentioned because she is a steam treasure to behold in my home state of Texas She is actually undergoing an extensive restoration and will be running again soon
Yes, I'm aware. I talk about 2248 in my video about the locomotives I missed in this series. Check it out if you have the time!
0:01 - 0:42 That music gave me goosebumps
2:09 darn.
Does southern Pacific 1996 count as a engine?
Good morning from SE Louisiana 9 Feb 21.
A look back at Buynot's channel...never mind don't try to look back at that.
I have an entire playlist dedicated to that, I don't need to make a video on it.
Do the northern pacific
After this can you do a look back at Santa Fe Steam excursion stars too? And can you give me credit for the idea in the video and a link to my channel on the video too please?
I've actually started working on a look back at Canadian National excursion engines. After that, I plan on doing a video on excursion engines from all of my other A Look Back At videos. But after those two, I'll make a look back at Santa Fe excursion engines.
I have a request: a look back at Canadian National exursion engines
2816 Productions Sounds like a good idea! I'll get started on it as soon as I can, and I'll do the video on the engines I missed in previous videos afterwards.
do a look bake at cotin baet excurson engines
I forgot the number but was a SP cabforward.
4294.
Sp 4449 2011 2012
What about cab forward 4274?
When is the missing exclusion stars video coming out
Want there SP 5021 for a brief time
These are well done, but the background music is too loud and annoying. It doesn't need to be there
What about #4274?
I’m waiting for southern
look back at c&o exusrion stars
mmm trains
1744 just got sold. Who knows where it will be stored and running.
It’s a damn shame LS&I 18 hasn’t yet been sold. It needs a rescue as much as 1744 did.
@@blackbirdgaming8147 i believe its no longer on the ozark mountain website. I believe its been sold free also
Nicholas Medovich Thank god. Wonder where it’s headed to.
@@LJRailfan-Gamer_07. Thank you. I’ve since heard about that and I’m glad it’s going to Niles Canyon. Also glad that LS&I 18 got its own rescue and is going to the Colebrookdale Railroad in PA.
I am crew on the 2472
Bro you forgot cab forward 4294
you missed the 1269
What did you do
You should've included diesels
SP4449is owned by the city of Portland
I'll never get over SP giving our L.A. homie to the
People's Republic of Portland.
You forgot about 4274
So are you working on the missing excursions stars video.
I'm working on the Canadian National video. The missing excursion stars video will be made after the CN one is done.
Ok
i have seen 4460
i love 4449
Also when's the Canadian national exclusion stars Coming out.
I plan to finish that by the end of the month. After The CN video is done, I'll get to work on the missing excursion stars video.
Oh! Ok
Please can you make a part 2
I might just do a video on the engines I missed across all of the videos in the "A Look Back At" series so far.
@@Buynot that could be a good idea, there were 2 steam locomotives from CP you forgot 1238 and 1286 (both came back to Canada)
@@CENsystem Thanks for the info! I'll start working the video as soon as I can. I might not be able to get the video out for a while though, I go back to school in a few days and I dont really know what the work load is going to be like.
southern Pacific 2248
Buynot What is taking you so long on all those videos like Nickel Plate Road Excursion Stars Canadian national Excursion Stars and part 2 of all the missing Excursion stars from grand trunk Western Canadian Pacific and Southern Pacific also you forgot CP 1098
I haven't had the time to work on them recently. Partly because of school, but also because of some personal stuff that has severely limited the time I have to narrate my videos now. I've also been trying to work on some other projects as well. The videos are still coming, they're just taking more time than expected to make.
Can u link the 745 and SP MT ALSO The 5021 or if u have one
