Amazing. I am grateful that you were honest about your high starting point. Reality is that is the way it is with diabetes, we have highs and lows and times when we are in range. Diabetes is a process and we learn how to work with it. Say the G6 Inserter was amazing. Keep up the VLOG you are helping us more than you know. Good Job!

@@ShesDiabetic Unfortunately, I must have gotten a defective box of applicators because when I put the first one on, I couldn't get it off! I called the company and a lady said to get a washcloth and put warm water on it and rub the tape to try to loosen it. It finally came off. Then, she waited while I put a 2nd one on and I couldn't get THAT applicator off. (sigh) I wouldn't have minded getting that box after I had been a pro at it. lol After making a couple of calls, I was directed to someone right here in town who might be able to help me. I left the applicator on all day, hoping that she would call and I could meet her somewhere, but she never called me back. I finally got the applicator off at the end of the work day and ended up with a nasty looking wound (from the wire). Oh, well, I guess I'll get this figured out some day. So, unfortunately, here's a negative experience. I'm sure it's rare. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a negative experience like this. Bad things happen sometimes, but we usually get through it. :)

Also, I'm glad I was able to see your video because when the sensor got stuck inside the applicator, at least I knew what SHOULD be happening. Also, a co-worker has this same model, so I asked her if she had any problems like this and she said NEVER. Also, now I know how it feels when the wire goes in and it's NOTHING like using a needle. YAY!!!

I really appreciate you showing us the reality of your diabetes by letting us see how high your reading was. I have been type1 since 1984. I have not known many other type1 diabetics. My brother had it before me but he passed away in 07.
It seems like a lot of diabetics try to hide the bad numbers, which makes me feel even more alone somehow.
I use the T Slim now after being on shots all those years. I started it in October of 19, paired with the Dex6. It is comforting knowing that other diabetics have similar struggles. Of course I take no joy in that, as I really wish we could all find a cure.
I am in the US and am looking fwd to the new Control IQ which is a feature of the Tandem that will actually give correction boluses if we miscalculated a bolus somehow and end up going high. My BS is almost always high at night when I sleep.
Good luck to you and thanks for tthe great videos!

Thank you so much for your kind words Gino! And for in turn also for sharing your struggles here. I think it's so important that we share these aspects of ourselves, and this is really what I'm trying to do here - so the fact that you see this and commented on it makes me really feel seen - so thank YOU! I am a Type 1 and have been on the Dex G5 for about 2 years. It was better than the Medtronic CGM but not perfect by any means. But, with the tech improvements in the G6, the Basal IQ and Complete IQ programs that will work with my Tandem X2 pump will hopefully will put me in range more than I have been over the last number of years. I am a LADA (Latent Adult Diabetic Autoimmune), and was not diagnosed as a Type 1 until I was in my mid 60s. Prior to that I was diagnosed as a Type 2. My new G6 system will be mailed to me on January 3rd. I am looking forward to the new sensor, the inserter, the Basal IQ program (since I am a unaware when I go low)the Complete IQ program (it is supposed to be released this month (It is a closed loop system) which will turn my pump into an artificial pancreas, no finger sticking, and no calibration. I am both hopeful and cautiously optimistic. Like you did in the beginning, I will continue to test until I am confident that the G6 is performing as it is supposed to and that it is in fact accurate. Thanks for posting - I enjoy your videos.

Hi. Thank you for doing this video. I have watched a couple of more of your videos and I just love the clarity, honesty and straight to the point of your videos presentations. Now, my son is currently on the G5 system, he has been on G5 for about four years already. We are considering in switching to the G6 system so I was looking for more information and came across your video.
Through your video I can see some differences between the two systems already. Application is one of the biggest differences. My son needs help to change his sensor everytime since it takes two hands to apply the G5 sensor because he prefers his arm vs. his stomach. This last one has been painful to place a sensor on, so he rotates between arms. I find that G6 sensor application looks pretty easy and can be done with one hand. The other feature I like about the G6 for what I heard around is that there is no calibration needed after the warmup period of two hours. Correct me if I am wrong because I need to be sure of that. Also, we are currently using the Dexcom Share App (this is the phone app used to share Blood Glucose Readings with caregivers) and Dexcom Follow App(,The phone App used to Follow the T1D love ones or patient) Which Apps are the ones G6 uses to communicate and share the glucose readings through the phone?? I noticed you made this video a year ago or so, are you still using the G6? Have you had any issues with the system since? Thank you again for sharing. Take care and stay safe!

Hello Hello!! Yes - I am still on the Dexcom G6 - I love it even more now than I did back then! There is no charge for the app - it's completely free, you just download it once you have the supplies - I would contact his doctor to discuss a prescription and getting started - that's the best approach! Do let me know how you and your Dad get on - my Dad LOVED his Dexcom and it was a true game changer for him and all of us as a family to be able to follow his numbers and help when necessary - truly it's a great gift!!!

It was not the real true, what I wrote.
I was on pen until I tryed the Freestyle Libre early 2017. I used this system for 6-7 month on my own costs.
In this time I informed me a lot about all type of pumps and chose the 640g with enlite sensor. Become the pump/enlite system 08/2017.
But now I has so mutch information, also about the 670g, that I found that this pumps are not enough for me.
I buy an old Medtronic Pump, also an old transmitter and build my own Open Loop system with OpenAPS.
So I'm now on a Paradigm Real Time pump since 7/2018 and did not use the 640g anymore.
The problem is, that this old system have a lot of connection lost, but the numbers are ok if I have done a good calibration.
Thats why I want the G6, also the calibrations are a problem if I have a busy workday.
Unfortunatly I can' t use the closed Loop, because there are only 2 pumps compatible with OpenAPS for that, the Dana RS and Animas Combo.
With the iPhone Loop System that was not a problem, this is compatible with old metronic pumps. But I have no iPhone and also no Mac to create the App.
      Sorry for bad englisch.

Thanks for your message! I wanted to try the Dexcom because everyone was raving about it, and I figured I would take a look to see what all the hype was about! Another big reason is because I’m going to be on my own a lot more (away from family) and therefore the alarms were extremely important for me to have, so that I can keep an eye on things more carefully, especially overnight. Great video Andre!
Saw your previous video on the Freestyle Libre, what made you switch to Dexcom G6?? Was it out of curiosity or weren't you satisfied with the Freestyle Libre?
On your 1 month review, maybe you could compare the accuracy between the two devices in relation to your finger prick device? A price per month comparison would be very interesting as well, both can run from your iPhone.?
The ultimate test would be a parallel comparison of both devices plus the finger prick test, that would mean of course, wearing both the G6/Freestyle Libre pads at the same time.!! You would be like a pin cushion!
What is your long term aim by trying both devices out? Are you trialling both devices to decide which CGM monitor to go with long term?
Look forward to your update! 👍👍🙂

I have some questions. I use the Medtronic 670G, and use their sensors. Does this Dextrom G6 work better than their sensors? I think that this might be much cheaper than using the Medtronic sensors. What do you think? Also, what about the difference between using it on your arm compared to using it on your abdomen? I think that I get much better readings using it on my arm. By the way, I love your videos. I have had diabetes for over 45 hears, and have only been taking care of myself or the last 10 years or so. I love to learn, so keep on putting out the videos. Big Fan.

I had horrible issues with the Medtronic sensors, so that's where I'm coming from too, to give you a little background. When it comes to sensor placement, I don't really experience any difference between the abdomen and the arm from an accuracy perspective, but I do find that the arm is more comfortable to me. I hope this helps you and thank you once again for sharing your questions with me - and 45 years with diabetes - you are a warrior and absolutely AMAZING!!! WELL WELL DONE TO YOU!!!!!! Miss Diabetic
Cute Video although you miss to show the G6 application to recognize the G6 transmitter. I have been on the G5 and before that the G4 for over 10 years. I have been Type 1 Juvenile Diabetic for 52 years. You mentioned you went to a class and your glucose went up because you were excited. That is simply not true, you ate to much before or your insulin tolerant at a certain time of the day and that is why the glucose went up. If you are insulin tolerant at a certain time of day and you are using one of the insulin pumps you do not have your basal rate set correct at that time. However I did enjoy watching your video, have fun the Diabetes toys. Joe

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  Před 5 lety +3

Hi Joe! Thank you for your comment and for watching. I appreciate what you say, but also respectfully disagree. Adrenaline, which I most certainly conjured up during the mentioned class would have produced hormones (particularly Epinephrine) that were then released into my bloodstream and resulted in a higher blood glucose level. This is scientifically proven. I feel very strongly about mentioning this because often times Type 1 Diabetics are taught that only insulin and food can effect their blood glucose values when this is absolutely and fundamentally not true. There are a host of other things that have an effect on BG levels and to understand them and investigate them is to give us more power to deal with them and have even tighter control, or at the very least an understanding when things don't add up as they should. I'm unsure as to what you mean when you said about the G6 applicator and transmitter, if you can elaborate on that perhaps I can respond to this. Wishing you all the best and continued health and happiness with your diabetes!

AND MOST IMPORTANT........CHANGE BOTH YOUR INFUSIONS AND YOUR SENSORS WHEN TI'S TIME TO CHANGE TO AVOID SCAR TISSUE. IT WILL CAUSE SCAR TISSUE, BUT IN TIME IY WILL HEAL. REMEMBER A DIABETICS IMMUNE SYTEM IS WEAK. SCARING IS NORMEL!!!!!!!

Why can’t she tell us what to do without all the fluff? I didn’t think she would ever shut up about non- relative bs. I will not be using these vids again - might not be using Dexcom.
