Brad did grab the meaning very quickly. Loving someone with mental illness can be tough. If they take their own life- I can’t imagine how awful that would be.
It's never easy to be involved with someone who has such strong issues but there are some who would be there no matter what ya go through in life. Loving someone much more than yourself is often a tough task to do but when the love is really real... Ya do whatcha gotta do for their sake and for yours. It's really awesome to see someone young pick up on things like Brad did as quickly as he did without knowing the ending results. My heart goes out to any and everyone who's ever dealt with someone who just needed to be understood and loved.
I have bad depression and I dont know how I would be in a relationship because I think it would be so selfish to put them through that imo, it is already horrible for the person who deals with it but to put someone else through it also is just awful.
Brad said it perfectly: 'Fire Away' is a metaphor for him saying that she could use him as a punching bag. He wanted to be there for her during her mental health struggles and was willing to deal with anything she threw at him. Sadly in the video and IRL sometimes, you just can't save someone. I've battled with my own mental health struggles and no one could have have saved me at the time. Thankfully I chose to save myself.

Man, i wasn't a big fan of country music, but Chris Stapleton is just transcendental. No matter what kind of music you tend to prefer, he will get to you. Not only with his vocals, but lirically aswell.
Man, I bawled and hugged my wife. I've suffered with depression my whole life, and my mother had paranoid personality disorder that got worse and worse. You love them, but you can't help them. It's heartbreaking and takes a very special person to love you enough to look at your soul and accept that kind of burden. To me, that's what this song is about - he is telling his partner give me every ugly and shameful thing you got -- fire away -- I'm not afraid and I'll accept you the way you are... But that can truly be accepting *a lot*
This song is the story of my life… not literally, but it couldn’t resonate more. My wife struggled with depression and various other mental and physical health issues. I was there with her every step of the way, even once losing a job because I had to leave often to be with her through episodes. A few years ago, she took her life. No matter how much I know that I did all I could, I still can’t help but blame myself a bit… maybe if I had the right words in a certain moment, something… maybe she’d still be with me. Some days the grief is crippling, I just find solace in knowing she is no longer struggling, no longer hurting, that she’s finally at peace

So sorry for your loss. I have a couple of friends and family members that have struggled in the past and I know if something ever happened I couldn’t help but blame myself. Even though I know that it most likely wouldn’t have mattered what I did. I hope you have found some healthy ways to cope.

Sorry for you’re loss, I lost my husband to suicide. I also go through the what if’s all the time. The hardest part is I didn’t see it coming, I completely had the rug pulled out from under me. So I look back constantly driving myself crazy wondering what I missed and how I missed it. It took me years to just accept it but I have and i can go through pictures and memories and smile and laugh at the fun we had.There was a time seeing his picture was to hard and I would instantly start crying.I wished people wouldn’t be scared to bring him up in front of me, I love him, I love reminiscing with friends and family, I get they are scared I will crumble but I feel like it’s my job to keep his memory alive especially for our daughter who was only 2 and doesn’t remember him. I don’t think I will ever stop missing him. I do feel his presence around me all the time and I believe he is at peace. Ugh, life can be so hard especially when you out love the love of your life.
I'm thinking of you friend. Know that you did all that you could. If it wasn't that time, it would have been another time. I know that's not enough. I lost someone this way and you always think "what if," but at least they are not struggling any longer.

Mental illness is a silent killer is what the ICU Nurses told us … we found out how silent when our son took his own life Christmas 2019 . Mental illness is very serious so if you know anyone struggling please be there for them and help them get the help they need .

Chris is a beast on the mic!! I'm not even a huge fan of most country music but I'll blast Chris Stapleton any day of the week!! This one hits home as I struggle with my mental health and just last year lost a friend to suicide. It definitely needs to be talked about so we can raise awareness of the invisible battle that comes along with mental health. Love you guys bunches!!

The song is the story. It’s about depression. When he says fire away and give it your best shot he’s saying he can take everything . He wants to take her pain. In the end when he said I didn’t find her. It’s because he always saved her and this time he didn’t make it in time to save her.

I live Chris Stapleton's Songs and voice and playing the bloke is one of those musicians who'll be known and I think remembered for generations in years to come. He's already got a prolific catalogue of songs not just his own but that he's written for others aswell.. blokes a legend already and it all comes from the heart like he channels it or something his songs always hit you right in the heart whatever he's singing about he makes it real. That's a gift!

I've been more than once where she is mentally, even to the point of wanting to take my own life, more than once. Thank God, never did, never have, never came that close, but the thoughts have always been there. More than once.

I lived this to the vary end it's tough! But I'm still here just broken
The lyrics are about just someone who loves their other half enough to take whatever she could throw at him... THE video was made to highlight suicide which still works for the song. A lot of times here in Nashville, the people hired to make a video for a song take so many liberties that the content of the video has almost nothing to do with the song.... this one got blurry but still stuck with the core meaning of the lyrics while highlighting a very important tragic subject in our society.
❤❤❤ Y'all hit the proverbial nail on the head with this one. It's exactly what y'all said. What's remarkable (besides Chris's voice 😍) is that he didn't make music videos. This was a special case for a poignant song. P.L.U.R.R. from ATX!

Mental illness, mental health issues are real. I struggle with it myself. Depression is real. No one should ever take something like this, like that, lightly with another human being. It's real, it's true.

The video in this song mirrored the great the good the bad and the horrible of the life I had with my wife. The FUKKIN scenes are almost identical and so is the ending. I know this might be a touchy subject when it comes to law enforcement as well but there is the aspect in this video that his job is to help people and all that he did couldn’t stop the love of his life from doing what she did and he couldn’t save her. It adds a different dynamic when you think of that scenario as well along with the whole video
If you're not someone who suffers with this, please don't act like you know, when you don't. Please don't pretend. Just show empathy to that person.
