Rush Hour Trains & Planes at Luton Airport Parkway, MML, 06/07/22

  • A very entertaining evening session spent at Luton Airport Parkway on the Midland Mainline where we see plenty of services from East Midlands Railway and Thameslink along with aircraft from Ryanair, EasyJet and Wizzair.
    Because of the nature of the station there isn't actually all that much to really tell about it. When it was opened in 1999 it was purely done so for the benefit of the airport, a free shuttle bus service was operated at the time by National Car Parks linking the station to the airport. This service was eventually handed over to First Capital Connect who added a charge to every passenger using the bus, you can walk from the station to the airport but it was far easier to get the bus, there are plans to bring to shuttle bus back into free running again now that Govia are running the Thameslink programme again but there isn't a set date as to when this will happen.
    The physical building hasn't changed much at all, it was built with 4 platforms in mind as that was the layout of the MML and obviously still is to this day, the only difference being that the platforms have been lengthened in 2008 to accommodate 12 car trains, this was the first station on the Thameslink network to do this. There was a new entrance built on the station linking to Kimpton Road which is on the other side of the station to make ease of access all the more better, this was done in 2013.
    The newest feature to this station is the current building of a new a link going from the airport to the train station. This is hopefully going to be finished in 3 years time and will be a monorail ferrying passengers to the airport at a quicker time that it is currently done via the bus. I would assume that this will be a free service but only time will tell. At the time of filming this the DART service is currently being tested from the station to the terminal at the airport.
    My next rush hour film will be Harrow and Wealdstone on the West Coast Mainline.

    Hi Tornado922. Great rush hour film at Luton Airport Parkway. Extra information for you: the blue EMR 360s are the ex Greater Anglia liveries. Loved the acceleration from each 700 during the film. Nice 1-tone from 222021 at 5:58 and great 2-tone from 222008 at 32:43 too. Looking forward to next rush hour film at Harrow and Wealdstone. Another enjoyable video tornado :) I’d like to see you do a rush hour trains at Tamworth especially 16:00 till 20:00 has plenty of action. I mean you can look at realtimetrains for yourself on a previous day to see what I mean. I’m also looking forward to the next Clapham junction video as it’s right in Heathrow’s flight path so that should be good with your new plane knowledge progressing. Busiest Train station and airport at once (loss of teeth garrenteed) that’s if there is good weather and there needs to be westerly winds (which there normally is to be fair) for them to come over.

    I agree that it probably wasn't as good as last time although I actually joined CZcams well after your last film from here! If you has stayed a bit longer, you would have seen 180111 with another 180 coming through. Well I'm sure you'll see more of them in action on the Midland Mainline when you're out. The 222/1's are now five cars using coaches from 222005 and 222006 respectively, with those units now five cars as a result. Originally the 222/1's would have been four cars with 222005 and 222006 seven cars. Now the 222/1's are five cars now, it seems weird seeing the full purple liveried 222104 with the odd purple, white and grey livery on it. 222103 and 222104 now have the first class in the now middle coaches declassified as a result of their upgrades to five car units. The only four car units left are 180110, made permanent due to excessive corrosion on coach no. 56910, which I assume is still at Doncaster Wabtec, and the 360's of course, of which I do prefer the new faces on them! They now look similar to the five car ones that used to operate the Heathrow Express. Perhaps a surprise that East Midlands Railway didn't snap them up! Yes I'm sure you'll get to know more about the types of plane but well done for giving the information on them a good crack!

    I do not understand why the 360s stop at this station along with Luton. Why can't EMR alternate so that one per hour has the first stop being Luton and the other being the airport? Keep Bedford as the second stop otherwise it'll be no faster than the TL services.

    Jesus.. them class 360s are quick off the Mark lol as well as their decceleration into the station, I'm pretty sure they use more power than class 350s or at least have better acceleration.
    Given their insane weight for an emu of around 100metres per 4 car set, they must use an immense amount of amps/power

    • @Tornado922
      @Tornado922  Před 2 lety +1
