i wish more people saw this routine. it was practically flawless. the fact aly raisman got the same exact score (aly literally bent way past 90 degrees and almost touched the beam).... that overscoring of aly / caused gabby not to qualifly for the AA.

@@gaodrob7938 ring elements don't require that the foot touches the head. Her switch ring is indeed well executed because it only requires her head be tilted back, her split is at least 180 and her back foot is somewhat at the same height as her head.

Gabby is one of the best BB worker and IMO most underrated. One of the most perfect lines. I will definitely miss her gymnastics most. I remember watching the trials and hearing an interviewer ask her if she was ready for the Olympics. She said she was physically ready, but not mentally.
from my point of view, they were actually pretty anxious waiting for their turn to perform their routine on the beam. as you can see, Laurie and Aly keep on simulating their movements and visualising themselves on the beam. as for Simone, she's keeping herself being composed to keep her concentration as she would be the last one to perform. however, Madison is cheering for Gabby on the floor. if you watch after Simone's performing her routine, they all had a group hug and cheer together afterwards. so. it's just some normal occurrence, i guess? during the event final, they had their moment to cheer their member in the audience. so i guess, everything's fine.
This routine wasn't underscored. Gabby has a lot of deductions. Her switch ring gets hammered because she doesn't hit the position correctly. Like Aly, she has issues hitting 180 on her switch half. She also gets a lot of deductions on the dismount for low chest, steps on landing, and lack of height/distance. The deductions on her dismount alone equal or exceed the deduction Aly got for bending at the hips. Gabby also bends her legs slightly on the front pike, and her pike jump doesn't even come close to parallel. The deductions are definitely there. I also thought they gave her some connections that were questionable (they probably incurred rhythm deductions). Gabby did as well as she possibly could have during qualifications, but Aly still beat her. It's really not surprising. Gabby didn't have the Amanar (she never once competed it during her comeback), and Aly consistently beat her during the entire summer competition season. I'm glad Gabby had a good competition, but the result wasn't surprising.
SheaNDamon1829 Gabby has never had trouble hitting 180....she's one of the most flexible athletes from the Rio team.....Aly is the one who should have been deducted for her bad form, splits not hitting 180 and nearly falling off the beam...Compare that to Gabby it should not have gotten the same score....no matter how you slice it.
I said specifically on her switch half. Watch several of Gabby's beam routines. She often didn't hit 180 on that particular leap because she performed the skill too tentatively. I stand by everything I said. A lot of people don't know the code well enough. Aly excels in areas where many people struggle. Gabby lost A LOT on this dismount (lack of height/distance, step on landing, chest near knees upon landing, leg split in the air). She lost more on the dismount than Aly lost by bending at the hips. Gabby incurs rhythm deductions because she pauses too long between skills. She doesn't reach 180 on her split half, she doesn't hit the correct ring position, her pike jump is not even close to parallel to the beam. The deductions are there. Aly has form issues, yes. But she has great rhythm, so no/few rhythm deductions. She gets excellent height/distance on her skills. Despite what most people try to say, she hits 180 on most of the leaps. The only real leap issue is her switch half, where she hits 180 but often doesn't get parallel to the beam (also a deduction). There's a reason why Aly consistently outscored Gabby on beam this season, and not just because of Gabby's falls. In fact, Gabby only squeaked into the 15s once throughout 2016 (and only because of home scoring during Nationals). Meanwhile, Aly won several beam medals throughout the year (bronze in Jesolo, silver at PacRims, bronze at Secret Classic, silver at Nationals, and bronze at Olympic Trials). There's also a reason why Marta put Aly on beam in team final over Gabby, even though they got the same score during qualifications. She knew Aly's mistake was a fluke, whereas Gabby scored about as high as she possibly could. A smart decision since Aly scored an even 15.0 during team final (judging seemed a bit stricter during team final and some of Aly's skills weren't as strong as they were in qualification, but she didn't have the error on the side aerial).
Jessica Balukas is really like to hear about those areas that Aly excels in that others don’t. The ONLY event that she can make any name for herself is on floor and even there it’s only her tumbling. Her splits are hardly over 90 degrees and her turns are hit or miss.
orlando leonides Exactly! She could have done BB, and Vault....She has better form than Hernandez in my opinion....Why she was underscored is beyond me.
Hazel Amarie I would have understood if she did vault, but on beam she is SO much less reliable. I mean, two near falls this year (Classics/Day 1 of Nationals) and two falls at trials in a row? No chance. Plus, even with a hit routine like Nationals day 2, she would not have scored nearly as high as Laurie.
Kojo Baidoo She looks better on beam than Hernandez form wise and in execution....Rewatch the American Cup...She can be reliable on beam when she hits. Just as quals showed. She's only fallen off twice this yr and that was trials but shouldn't factor in reliability when she's done back to back beam routines all last yr and only had ONE fall during world's quals throughout the entire yr.......Of course she wouldn't score nearly as much with lower start value.....That still doesn't change my opinion on how much better she looks when executing her routines.
Gabby was brought there to be the 2nd American bar worker. Her ticket to Rio was on bars. She was not used on VT because Hernandez outscored her during quals. She was not used on BB because it's her weakest piece. Although, she and Raisman tied on BB, Martha chose Aly because she's reliable and can hit. Aly also didn't fall on BB in Trials, while Gabby did. Twice. Obviously, they didn't need her on FX, as she had the lowest score among all Americans in quals. There's your answer.
2 of Gabby's American teammates (Aly and Simone) qualified ahead of her. So even though Gabby was the 3rd highest qualifier overall, the rules state that a country can only send a maximum of two gymnasts to the AA Final (or any other event final).
