I loved this episode, George following everything Neil says and even bringing up more related topics really shows how well versed he is in this sort of scientific conversation. Karl cracking jokes and asking questions and Sapnap intently listening in silence and absorbing everything Neil says. This is truly a one of a kind banter episode and hope that they can keep have these super interesting guests and conversations.

  • @natureindistress8653

Everything Neil talks about is the same kind of thought process I have, especially when he goes on about "Why am I this specific person? What makes me, me? How come I'm this person when I could be that person?"
I've always been asking that same question ever since I was a kid. But not in a morbid existential crisis way but in a curious weird but fun way! Cause it *is* true when thinking about it. You could have been born into literally any other person in the world and yet you opened your eyes in this body. The fact that you right now are human pushes that question even more! Like you could have been a bird, a bear, a worm, who knows! Hell why earth out of all places to be born in? Maybe there could have been a chance that you were born on a different planet entirely, would you think the same way? And when you look at someone else, are they really thinking about the same things you do? Do they have that same kind of awareness or are you the only one?
The fact that you are this specific person right now, watching this very specific video about a very specific person ranting about what makes us people in the first place and still having a million more questions no matter what angle you approach it, and now reading this very specific comment made by a specific person that is behind this computer right now, wondering why *they're* this specific person too-Isn't that all amazing??
Sorry for the overuse of specific- Maybe there's some spiritualism here but I get so excited about questions like these cause for the simple reason of: It's funky!

As a vegetarian, I can tell you, these conversations get so tiring. I don’t even think eating meat is the/a problem in general, but the way our current world is doing it. We throw away more food than we eat, isn’t that despicable? I think that’s a conversation worth having, I am over the debacle of meat eater vs vegan/vegetarian and hypothetical questions of whether or not the salad had feelings. Instead I think we should tackle overproduction, overconsumption, food waste etc. There are more responsible ways of eating meat than McDonalds as there are more responsible ways of saving animals than „saving“ tortoises by throwing them in the river.

The counter argument for us being in a simulation is that the odds of us being here, the universe with the right physics, the solar system being in the habitable zone and the earth also being in the habitable zone and not being destroyed to the point we not only exist but we are here now in the golden age of technology. The odds must be like winning the lottery a trillion times in a row, yet actually winning the lottery is mostly impossible. 🤔
