- There has been a lot of controversy on TikTok over Cake gate and this lady who will basically handled the situation with her client horribly, being dragged by the Internet. She even made it on the news. I feel like at this point people are just bullying her and pointing out things that are ridiculous such as using A wilton turntable and calling it unprofessional and I just wanted to point out that it’s not right.

This isn’t about me loves. I never got this comment. I was talking about the whole issue on tiktok and people are truly brutal and pick on the smallest things. It makes no sense. 😂 I love the Wilton turntable 🤷🏻♀️
You just got to not listen to them some people are really big bullies no matter what and think they know it all when they don't or think they have to write to be nitpicky or to be really mean when they don't trust me I've dealt with people like that all my life I've been pulling for a lot of things including my hair color which is red but I don't care what other people think cuz I like my hair and I felt something pulling cuz I'm different and also probably cuz I think you should treat people how you want to be. So if they're being really bad just ignore them or block them I've had to block a few myself. So don't pay attention to what they say your great. I hope what I said helps.

I love a lot of Wilton's baking tools! I don't get why people have to be so hateful to others.

frankly, the end product is all that matters. if you can use a cheap turntable and your cake still looks professional at the end, that means that you're more talented. My cakes come out worse when I use turntables that are even slightly wobbly because my hand can't adjust to the slight movements of the cake. Some people can adapt to the wobble and move their hands to perfectly smooth the frosting so that you'd never even know. those folks are better than I'll ever be lol
if I saw someone icing a cake with a ruler and a record player and it still came out looking professionally made, I wouldn't judge them. I'd bow to them 😂

I work at a professional, successful, dare I say famous bakery and we use plastic turntables. They're easy to move around the kitchen, wash, store, you can put them in the dishwasher, and they work just fine. Hundreds of customers each week and we never had a complaint... No one wants deal with the heavy metal ones! Oh we also use plastic cake scrapers, the horror 😱 use whatever works for you, don't let anyone bully you for your equipment or lack thereof
Legitimate question but what do you do with your plastic scrapers?? I only use metal ones at work because the plastic ones keep breaking down at the ends 😭 I assume they just need to be treated with a gentler hand, but I've got too many other people in my bakery with different jobs than ours to be able to make sure of that. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated if you have them!

Yeah. I'm just getting into decorating for myself. I bought a metal one and had to do exactly what she said. I had to make a non-slip pad to go on top because the first time I tried it, spun it, put my brand new metal scraper against it and that thing went sliding across the turntable. I was like, "oh, right, I need something to hold it to the stand." I was then thinking, " do I buttercream the wakeboard to it too? But then you have buttercream on the bottom. So I went and watched a video. Oh, I need a grip pad. So I had to fold a towel. I finally got some grip stuff and made one perfect sized but man, what was the point of that! I feel you use the tools that work for you. My sister and I saw a video of Julia Child using a wrench once. What ever works babe. LOL.

well we have people that just have to complain about something. also we have people that think they are professionals at everything so they must speak their mind when they see something they don't like and say it's unprofessional. yet half of them probably have no idea how to bake or decorate a cake. also it wasn't her channel it was another persons video. I think for them people are cruel and just have to point out every negative thing they see when someone is getting bashed. like mimo said it was one comment about the Wilton turn table and everybody that had something negative to say said something. though. it wasn't needed.

I got the same green and white Wilton one on clearance for $3.99 and it's the best $4 I've ever spent. Being smart about money as well as quality is something many people don't understand. ❤

I think jazza made a similar comment once: "It's not the art supply that makes the artist but it's the artist that makes the art supply work" and I love that concept. You could give expensive tools to a beginner and I can bet that the final product is going to look horrible. But you can give cheap supplies to an artist and they will make it work somehow.
While there is definitely truth to that, if you can get good art supplies even as a beginner you should. Because often it's disheartening to be doing art and seeing someone else have way better results then you, when a part of it is that having the right supplies is important. And quality does matter. Sure a really good artist can do something great with Crayola crayons, but they can do something better with professional crayons. And a beginner artist can also do better work with better supplies.
I love Wilton. Been using their products since I was 8. I’m 39 now. That should speak for itself.

I think she’s defending the girl in the TikTok cakegate and all the hate she’s getting on there. But people are bullying her because she is rude, unprofessional, nasty to her customers, and puts out cakes that my 1y/o could do. I think that’s what she’s referring to

I agree -- the things I would refuse to scrimp on, though, are supplies for jewelry making. I don't like acrylic (plastic) beads, unless it's craft time with the 10 and under set. They'd get lessons in how to sit still for more than 15 minutes, first, before introducing them to actual gemstone beads, let alone the really nice Swarovski shinies. 😅
I realize that jewelry making is not the same as cake making, but yeah, wasting $ unnecessarily for one's craft is a recipe for financial concerns.
It’s wild to me how some people find the most insignificant things to be mad about. Maybe go outside and touch some grass; let the cake peeps create and design to their heart’s content. Remark on how awesome their creations are. Sheesh.
As a non baker who knows nothing about turn tables, what’s the big deal? Yes sometimes you very much get what you pay for. But sometimes expensive does not equal better. It seems to be a question of skill more so than anything.

Unfortunately this girl truly doesn’t have the skill or experience to back up her cost of cakes and the “classes” on how to get rich quick and how to cake decorate class and so on. So people have a sour taste for her because of that. However. It’s absolutely still unacceptable to kick people when they are down. It’s very sad to watch folks attack her so badly
It's bad, but also she literally started it by complaining online about the customer and people were super supportive taking her word for everything until they saw the actual cake.
I have an almost-2-yr-old lab-pointer mix. She is so sweet, but gets out of control when she sees another dog through the window or fence that has the audacity to walk its owner on the sidewalk in front of our house. There is a neighbor dog behind us, and also to the side of us. She will rush at the fence, every hair on her back standing straight up, barking and snarling, apparently ready to rip the other dog's throat out. One day the fence board came loose and the other dog came through. Audrey was a different dog. She put her tail between her legs and ran to me. These nit-pickers are so happy to give in to their worst instincts while hiding behind the fence of the Internet. Would they ever have the balls to make content and put it out there for all to see? Hell no! They just like to sit on their asses, feel superior, and spew their hateful criticism, thinking that it shows their superiority. Quite the opposite, sad to say. Most of them, truth be told, have some serious character defects and need therapy. You are doing great, Mimo. What you have chosen to do is a very difficult road. People think CZcams is easy. I know it isn't in more ways than you can probably count. Hang in there, and just take a deep breath after the nit-pickies, and keep scrolling through the love, since they outnumber the jerks probably hundreds to one. Your mission is about so much more than cake. I bought my granddaughter a small turntable and tool kit thats non name brand from like temu lol. The point is-it works. Shes happy. Why people get all snippy about things is their problem.
I think it should even be the other way around. Generally expensive tools have more features and tend to make doing things easier. So if you're working magic with a "cheap" tool, you deserve more kudos.

The reason you have so many followers is because you’re authentic. Keep being you. I’ve had some very expensive cakes from some cake snobs who use the best of everything and the cakes tasted horrible. Clearly you have fans and your cakes are beautiful and the trolls are just jealous.
I got one that was from Wilton that has a little button you can press to make it tilt as well as turn I haven’t gotten the chance to use it yet but I already know it’s a major upgrade from the lazy Suzan that I used to use for it because the Wilton turntable spins a lot faster also I bet those people who are tearing someone down for using a Wilton brand turntable don’t know a thing about cake decorating and just assume the more expensive something is the higher quality it is which isn’t always true the Wilton ones are way lighter and can hold just as much weight as the expensive and heavy metal one and I was able to make some pretty good cakes with just a lazy Susan so I’m sure that the Wilton one will help me make even better looking cakes

It is funny when I critique the cakes on a well-known selling website to yours and say to myself..."Mimo's are a heck of a lot better looking than the ones they are selling for a lot of money. Her edges are far crisper and cleaner." I learned that from you. I am not a baker but a buyer! Moral to my post...don't listen to those hurtful folks. As humans, we tend to "hear" hurtful comments when we should be "listening" to the good people say and do. We don't do that enough! :)

This is my first time coming across one of your videos, and I just wanted to say that I love your attitude. People definitely do need to chillax sometimes lol
I’m a cake decorator and have Wilton brands, Ateco and others. I also use a lazy Susan my brother made decades ago that isn’t a cake turntable. Who cares it’s what works for you! It’s a piece of equipment and if I have to get an expensive one (like a new car) that gets included as part of the pricing etc., people who don’t decorate have know idea how expensive this job is and expensive the tools are. That’s why we are called custom cake decorators. We use good ingredients, a ton of equipment and tools to design those cakes that customers want, plus labor isn’t cheap. It takes maybe minimum 4 plus hours to do a cake, the bigger, more detailed, the longer it takes. We don’t have a magic oven and press a button and pull out a decorated cake! I saw that video and the comments, and thought how ridiculous they were being. These videos are entertaining and teach as well. We as decorators will use whatever equipment and tools are needed to give you the best tasting, most beautiful cake. Who cares the brand of equipment we use, you got a beautiful, delicious cake! We all start with brands that aren’t great, it’s what we can afford at the time. Then as our talents get better and our skills, then we can afford something better. No one is an expert from day one! Keep up the good work!

I actually prefer to hear about the cheaper options because I only bake cakes for birthdays and special events at work when it's a "bring *insert sweet treat* to work" event or something for my daughter's class/school so I can't be purchasing something that professional bakers use, I don't earn that kind of money! 💸

When you spend your life watching others do unbelievable things via shorts with the magic of cinematography, it's impossible to understand the work involved in making art with your hands & loving your work. It also is really bad for your mental health to scroll through videos and makes us all become mean in the end.

My mom has an old wooden lazy sue or whatever it’s call. It’s very, very old but works amazing still.
I "upgraded" to the expensive metal one, and I couldn't work with it because in addition to not having a non-slip surface, it also has a beveled edge. And that edge meant that I couldn't use my extender for larger cakes.
