Hello, is this instrument used only for discharging process or can it be used also for charging process?

Can you chose any of the other modes in the battery app like CP instead of just CC?

I like your video, can you tell me exactly how you set it up? I did exactly what I see on your DL3021A, when testing my 18650 battery, but after less than a second : "Battery Test Complete". Also, you are using 4 wires? I have my tester wired with all 4 wires, but I connected them together to main input. Should I separate them and use all 4 wires? Thanks for your videos! I'm a subscriber now.

You need to check what the battery specifications are on the data sheet for your battery. If you pull to much current from an 18650 battery it will pull it down too fast and cause the battery voltage to dip and stop the test. When using 4 wire sense you have to turn on sense if you are using the same DC load as i am. There should be 1 sense wire on the plus and on on the minus. The DC load is the same. One wire on each. polarity matters as well.

@@The_Active_Region Thank you very much for a quick respond! I think I understand the 4 wire and polarities... But I do not know at this point where to adjust what. I've matched your setup, but there must be something else setup or turned on/off some option, because it is very fast over. I use the exact same numbers as I was able to recreate your test. I have other testers, that do nothing much more than give me a number that represent the stored energy. It uses 1/2 Amp as discharge - just like your sample here. I'll call Rigol Tech. Support and see what they have to say - any experience with them? Again, thank you very much!

im not sure, I know 18650 battery have a short circuit protection built in . If you discharge them further than the recommended state it will go open circuit. try a lead acid battery. You should find a data sheet for a 18650 battery and see the discharge curve to see what to set.

Also if you have your V low cutoff set too high it will stop the test. You need to know your cutoff from a data sheet.

@@The_Active_Region The "a short circuit protection built in" is concern, SOME do, but most don't have any protection build in anything like that! The 18650 with protection are also more expensive.... I don't need the battery info, since these are salvaged out of old laptop batteries, so if it goes little lower, I don't care and I'm sitting right here, so they would not catch on fire. On top of all of that I have a thermometer sensor clapped onto the battery and if it goes above 150F I stop the experiment.
What I like to know is what did you set in your DL3021A, all of the parameters, so I can recreate what you did. I have also my channel here, czcams.com/play/PLv52A7rm-UViZEOlzZfZOB9Gl8cjS3ze5.html

      Thanks for your reply.

The Rigol; a new piece of gear?

Yes the Rigol DC load is a relatively new piece.

@@The_Active_Region I never looked up the price of it yet.
Bought a Siglent 2 ch 200mhz scope recently too!

Awesome. You will enjoy that scope. Siglent has great gear.
