- Doc Watson was an American guitarist, songwriter, and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, blues, and gospel music. Watson won seven Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson's flatpicking skills and knowledge of traditional American music are highly regarded. Watson taught himself to play fiddle tunes on his Les Paul electric guitar. He later transferred the technique to acoustic guitar, and playing fiddle tunes became part of his signature sound.
He performed with his son, guitarist Merle Watson, for over 15 years until Merle's death in 1985 in an accident on the family farm.
Directed by Terry Allen Williams, Produced by Thomas Lofstrom
This series features progressive bluegrass and country music performed at the Telluride Festivals, and is available on DVD from TheFestivalTapes@gmail.com - Zábava
There will never be a Doc Watson ever again. He was a true national treasure. The best flatpicker there ever was. I saw him & Merle play at Ebbits Field in Denver 1974. 200 people. Very intimate venue. They were the best ever!!!
listen to Billy Strings and you'll hear Doc's inspiration
2 giants rip
So much great music that I've never heard of because of the radio air play. This came up on my suggestions from Mississippi John Hurt. This is the best ever as a fisherman! And this is real talent! Love it!
I love the blues and this real good😊
I was a month and 23 days old. If I only knew what awesomeness was going on.
This is pure gold!
I't just wonderful. A perfect song, perfectly played and sung.
@Leonard Kian Yea, I've been using Flixzone for years myself :)

Le maître du picking guitar
OMG ! Doc & Merle are gone. God bless.
One of my favorie-est doc thumb-pickin’ tunes with ‘son’ and T. Michael Coleman on bass and harmony vocals
COOL ...
Such a great talent!
There was nothing on this planet like Doc and Merle singing and picking with T Michael Coleman. They inspired the Doc and Merle Watson Memorial Festival in Wilksboro, North Carolina getting bigger and better every year.
God damn, I cannot get enough of doc playing this song. Thank god for those Watsons!
Old Doc Watson played the best of nearly all of Merle Travis' finger pickin' disciples...
T. Michael Coleman on bass.
John Quinlan led with a cover of that song! Alaska 1975
ageless
He plays is San Antonio.
#ugottalisten2b4udie My old gal's a good old pal, and she looks like a water fowl when I get them deep river blues.
Classic line :)
@@coryCuc I agree!
This song is really called 'Big River Blues' and it was written and recorded by the Delmore Brothers, check it out.
True. EVERYONE knows that. Not sure what your point is?
@@coryCuc I never knew that.
I'm here because @Billy Strings ..
Not trying to be insensitive, but is he
visually impaired ?
Yes, Doc Watson was blind from a young age
Yes, from the time he was one year old. I opened at concerts for Doc & Merle in both 1976 and 1978.
