Wearing Paul Newman Daytona while driving a 356 Porsche is in the stratosphere of coolness
And five years later one hell of an investment
ui
Ben Clymer...he's kind of a hipster with his vintage car and vintage watches. And I hate hipsters. But I like Ben Clymer. He's non-douchy with his passions, I believe it's real emotion. I feel like I could show him my watch collection and it wouldn't really matter that much what watches I owned, he'd be more interested in why I own them.
Don't know if he's still non douchey. Read the latest piece on hodinkee about getting delivery of two new rolexes daytona. That was as douchey as it gets, imho.
It's a Bit douchey that he ließ about his grandfathers watch in a different Video he Shows a Classic speedmaster (Not this Mark 40) and tells the same story so i'm thinking
if you gonna make up a story stick to it
atl3630 you own them because you bought em lol
drawin code and the why?
atl3630 why is the sky blue ha ha
Talking Watches with Ben Clymer! The episode one could only hope for!
555 Gear exactly what I thought. since Hodinkee won't give it to us, Mr Porter does!
Mr Porter, thank you. I enjoy these 'short films' so much. The mood of it, the music, the style all underline the fact that men's style is more than a large price tag. Often it's quite affordable. Whatever the case, I appreciated this fine collection of watches & his story. Actually, perhaps the collections story.. Loved this!
Had no idea Ben owns/drives a 356. Solid taste in watches and cars; the two often go hand in hand. Great video.
+JCW80 both will climb in value.
When I saw him with that 365C, yep, definitely my role model now.
My dad has that car in red but he is not in watches
Robin Bauer normally, men are into cars and watches because of their mechanical appeal.
@@neitherlink6612 and because it’s the only thing their wives allow them to spend money on😂
No just joking, but it’s actually one of the few things men actually spend money on
The MK 40 was the watch that got me into collecting too, it has such a nice unique look about it, the funny thing about it is you can actually hear the rotor spinning across the room, love it.
i love this guy. he has a style.
Watch enthusiast and a straight Savage! Don't think we didn't see you go straight through that left turn only lane!
Step 1: Have lots and lots of money.
Grant Nicholson That's step 2. Step 1 : Make sure you are born in to the right family
+Grant Nicholson
Becoming a CZcams commentator.
Step one: Be intelligent.
Step two: Be funny.
Seems like you guys have missed both steps.
+Grant Nicholson +SKY HIGH He didn't start with money or family position. What he does have is the knack for online and social media marketing and he was fortunate to start blogging about watch collecting just as it was starting to gain unprecedented levels of mainstream popularity. He's also been very fortunate at a few key moments, like being the only member of the watch reporting industry to be invited to the unveiling of the iWatch. That brought LOTS of traffic and attention to Hodinkee.com. His was the only outlet reporting on the iWatch from the standpoint of being a "watch publication" while everyone else reporting on it was coming from the technology angle. He owes his success to being talented and shrewd, and as is often the case, there's a good deal of "right place, right time" mixed in there as well.
+alealeale ale Haha, if you think you need to be intelligent and funny to comment on CZcams you clearly haven't spent much time on here.
Not to mention your comment is neither intelligent nor funny as well!
Grant Nicholson You bring up a good point, maybe I should have used another adjective there...maybe worthy, or relevant...
My first watch from my parents is a speedmaster mk40... The same one!!!!!! A very underrated watch but I love it
A beautifully made video!
I love this video... he is talking to my heart
What à stuning zénith and collection! congrats!
Ohh how long i've been waiting for this video
Amazing! I just wish it had 10 times the duration!
I really like the track playing in the background. Could you guys tell me who that is?thx
I can relate to that. One of my favorite watches is a Jaz Paris quartz given to me by my grandpa
I like your style!
Like the music
Amazing Porsche! It's easy to see that it is from the same mind as Volkswagen typ 1
Amazing
Nice vlog great watches Enjoy
The personallity of the watch must match your personallity. It doesn't matter if it is a Rolex, Omega or Tudor ... a Citizen, Seiko, Hamilton could also works. Expensive ones or affordable ones. Take in mind your budget as well. Family based trends or new trendies. It's up to you.
Well said
G shocks are cool to. They can really take a beating.
vintage is cool, yeah, but is not "better" than modern or than anything else, for that matter.. I'm new to this love for watches and I'm not afraid to say that Hodinkee is playing a big role in my everyday life: it keeps me informed, it entertains me and yes, it teaches me something too. With that being said, I sometimes wonder if I too should just "learn" how to grow this love for the old watches and all of that "vintage" stuff, but to be honest with myself I actually prefer the new ones. Ben Clymer himself on another video states that he loves vintage watches because "they have history behind", he mentioned the high probability of a vintage Omega watch from the '60 of it being owed by an actual diver, or pilot, astronaut, or whatever, and that to him adds the "history" thing that he loves so much. For me all of that sounds cool, yeah, but I kinda prefer to get a new watch and make history with it with my own life, not just borrowing the inherited coolness of an old watch. I want new, great mechanical watches to be part of my present life for them to become the heir of MY history. I want to own the vintage of the future, not my grandpa's tools
Alex Drastico well said. I agree. I make my own history with my timepieces. I don't rely on someone else's history.
Finally, someone with some sense. Saying you love vintage because of all the history is just a way to feel superior than the majority people who are in the same hobby as you. You've reached snobbishness when you announce your love for vintage anything.
Exactly
Finally... someone who shares my philosophy on Watch ownership. Make your OWN damn history, with your own New and Modern Timepieces . No piggybacking on someone else’s 40 year old watch and history for me, Thank you!
More watch videos please. Btw what is the name of the song in this video?
Great video....the name of the song???
Love the video. Definitely changed my perspective on the significance of owning a watch. I can’t wait until I’ll be able to invest in one!
Also, could someone tell me what song is playing in the background?
Start with a Seiko, an Orient or even a vintage Longines; you dont need to break your piggy bank for a watch.
That 356 is so damn elegant.
Beto will be coming for your watch collection! knock knock
Watches or not... nicely done. Thx.
Cool my dad has an quite similar Porsche too, he has the 356 but in red
You just said Hodinkee is a mag about Mechanical watches but couple of seconds later showed a box displayed that says Omega Quartz. What can be inferred from that?
Mr. Clymer, I like your style. I like how he's not just a Rolex guy; that his favorites include an Omega Speedmaster and Zenith El Primero... both are my favorites along with the Breguet Type XXI 3817.
More watch content!
Fantastico il Paul Newman!!!
He owns my dream car, had my dream job, has my dream house. I’m 12 years old. I’ve got a loooong way to go
I want to buy a goed quality and sporty omega watch and I hava a smal wist. Wat should I buy and wat is the cheapest one?
356 C, I personally like the older 356's. Still nice though.
Question from a newbie. Looking to buy a nice business watch. I saw the jaeger master control with blue numbers. And a different dial called maybe a “sector dial”. Is this a limited edition? How many made? Could you review it. Not much out there but I love how this watch looks.
Are you talking about this one.....
www.hodinkee.com/articles/jaeger-lecoultre-master-control-date-sector-dial-a-week-on-the-wrist
Can I know the background music title please? Thanks!
A very nice video, but taught me the square route of jack about how to go about collecting watches. Here’s how: don’t buy above your means/budget and only buy what you like, not what others tell you. Easy.
anybody else notice him fly straight through the right turn only lane lmao
Same feeling when my dad gave me his Rolex explorer.
Cool
Great info 👍🏽
I too inherited my
fathers 56 Oysterdate,
Unopened & Unserviced
which gives it Uniqueness, Story & Soul....Subscribed
✌️😎
Targa 911, common projects, great style
Cool guy..
Zenith el primero is the greatest watch of all time!
Screw the timepiece - that Porsche tho ! :o
green car Porsche 356 b. prob .a 1963 sounded like a super engine. I owned 54 Porsche's over the years. 7 speedsters .worked at Porsche delr's many a year. great channel. love your talks with series.
song name on the background?
I bought my first El Primero piece, it is already special. Don't ask why..
Having passion, being fortunate and hard working, gets you watches among other things! Believe me!
+Mike Brown you think all the people who came in power and are filthy rich were hard workers?.......reality check.
My kinda guy...Nice porsche too
I was always trying to figure out if you have any ancestors in Czech Republic as you’ve chosen the name HODINKEE for your company... ?!
To my disappointment it was only because you liked the sound of this particular word - WRIST WATCH - in my native tongue as you were randomly googling and translating from a variety of different languages....
A person of such exquisite taste as yourself should have relatives in that country... :))
Somebody send this video to Pras
you have to buy something stare at it then put it in a drawer and just keep doing that
Song?
Ben said Hodinkee only reviews mechanical watches?? Is he mad? Lol QUARTZ LIVES
Where did this vid tell us how to build a watch collection??
Didn't know he had an iwc mk11 in his collection military watches are my field of collecting.
Great video - If you are going to use someone's music, it might be nice to provide a credit.
+g ride / might have been created for this video by someone
Way way too short, I want a 90 minute documentary please!
He's literally my crush.
I wonder where he got his money from pre-hodinkee? It can't be making him lange, patek, rolex PN, Universal split seconds money...oh and that mint vintage porsche.....
I thought he worked on wall street before hodinkee
Agentxphile He was a "consultant" for a New York based financial firm. I doubt he had any difficulties getting by...
I cant offord any of these beautiful watches... but I still like to collect... so I try to get me some very cheaper pieces. I am really looking for history so I have some vintage watches which probably no one would look at, but still their my collection and I love them =). I really like the Paul Newman... such a calssic icon, omg most beautiful sportswatch ever...
M R Don't be ashamed of your collection! If it has character it can stand on its own. What brands are you focused on?
There is a Timex in his collection
Adam Adamík Timex Weekenders are staples
Does anyone know the name of the song?
When I heard he wears the Paul Newman Daytona on his wrist I was shocked. Isn’t that worth millions of dollars? That seems like a safety hazard. Great video regardless!
Ben “Common Projects” Clymer
Does a "Rolex Daytona Paul Newman," that was personally owned by Paul Newman, exist or has one ever come to the market?
The Paul Newman Daytona was named as such because it was reputably as the model that Paul Newman wore. These things don't come cheap. It costs
more than modern or Zenith based Daytona's in Precious Metal.
The Paul Newman that Paul Newman wore himself is lost. Hopefully one day it comes up.
It was just sold for almost 18 M
damn ben! you got surely hot watches there!
How? Have a watchmaker as a close friend. Truth.
Love the part where he drives straight through a turn only lane…. Lol
You guys have your parents or grandparents to give you a watch, for me I have to buy it by myself
Am sure he’s grand father probably bought for himself, You can start for your family
he owns a paul newman and a 365... holy crap
I'm in it for the every day history of the people who wore it
"It has nothing to do with the cost of the watch".
- Shows only expensive watches.
XD
Haha yeah, I thought the same.
as he is showing his quarter million paul newman daytona
Yea as am sure you know well what he meant by that, just because u cant afford a Paul Newman you can still be a great collector by acquiring vintage Seikos and Longines. Its never about the money, its the journey, the stories, the passion and the personality.
@@nk2ti About the bla bla you mean.
@@grimmer2005 I ain’t your mother bro, I could care less about your ignorance. Cheers mate😂🍻
I don’t think this video is about building a watch collection. It’s about everything else but this.
Came for the watches, stayed for the Porsche
anyone notice he went straight in a turning lane lol
Shame he does not look like Steve McQueen 😂
V G!
This is a rich man!
he probably bought the porsche mint like that and knows nothing about it lol.. respect the hustle though
Did he just say Paul Newman's Daytona 😨
So Ben drives a 356... not bad :)
and he drives around in a 356
“People get into watches for the wrong reason” am I the only one who buys watches for the sole purpose of telling the time
I'm always amazed by people that work with and are passionate about something and yet can't even pronounce it properly. Zenith is not pronounced "zee nith".
Ben is genuinely a nice guy....nothing pretentious about him in a watch world full of pretentious people.
Notice it’s always the guys who own Daytona’s who say it’s not about the price...
yet every watch worth collecting costs a lot of money
+James Benn Actually, if invested in the right pieces, it doesn't have to 'cost' anything as you can sell for the same price or even more than you pad for it after a year or so.
As compared to say sports, where equipment costs a shitload and is relatively worthless after a minute of wear.
When did inanimate objects spring to life and develop a personality?
I love watches but that Paul Newman Daytona leaves me cold.
Ben Clymer 🔥🔥🔥 Daddy
"Online magazine?" Ha! It's a website, or should I say "electronic newspaper?"
Hodinkee is a lifestyle magazine focusing on watches
Slightly misleading title
;D
this guy doesn't even know how to stay in the right lane bruh
I’m from Australia and i thought he was in the correct lane.
