That Swatch is neither silly nor worthless down the road. It’s a pure beauty, and for many of us the gateway brand that brought us to the watch community in the first place! 😍

Thomas, well said and you are 100% correct. Unfortunately too many people are not watch collectors but investors. All your points ring true. I buy because I want to wear a watch to enjoy it. What gets me attracted to a watch in the first place is the dial then I look at the quality and reliability of the brand. Like all trends, I can’t wait for the pendulum to swing back. In the meantime, there are fantastic brands that are available at reasonable prices like Omega, Breitling, and Breguet to name a few.

I buy what i love (fifth commandment) and don't think in advance what i will do with the watch if the love stops. That's why I lost a lot of money on sales on some models. The "exit plan" Is certainly good advice in the sense that, before each purchase, you should ask yourself about the role of the new watch in the collection, as well as the possibility of its further sale.

I tried buying a couple of fairly expensive mechanical watches. A Sinn 856 and a Panerai, the PAM# of which I can’t recall. Neither was all that accurate. If it gains/loses 15 secs a day, that’s a couple minutes a week/few minutes a month. That’s enough to throw me way off. Sold them on eBay and bought the most normal-looking smartwatch I could find (in my case, a Withings) and while it may not have the cool factor, it stays dead-on synced with the rest of the world and that is key to me. Looks perfectly fine to boot.

i agree with you why wear or collect if you dont want it,dials is like a face of the soul of a watch,i dont know but there is something in watches that makes me happy, wearing or just lying as a collection or dress watch.

I don’t collect watches for a collection itself in oder to have also famous pieces under it. I buy a watch what design flashes me really by watching it in reality spontaneously. When it is affordable for me, I buy it soon or a bit later.
All my watches have something special and an elegant extraordinary beauty, all eye catchers in price ranges under 8.000 €, not so popular in main streams , but showing class also to people, who have less idea of horology.
I wear watches to express my personality and don’t collect watches like worthy coins or stamps. So I ignore all recommendations from other people how to build up a collection. Even a clock flashes me at first sight extraordinary or it is not more than a nice peace, a must have or a nice to have . This is my individual relationship to my watches.
