- New York City courthouse followed by a beautiful family dinner, and a New Years Eve party to extend the celebration. I think we did it right! Anyone else have an unconventional wedding out there?!
I used to be a wedding officiant in New York City and I TOTALLY agree that the marriage bureau is just the happiest place. I eloped in NYC at Jane's Carousel in Dumbo and it was great.
Very cute and a very smart idea. Big is not everything. All the $$$ for a big wedding could be used to begin a successful life together with less financial stress. Congratulations to you!
But what important is the bless ceremony no the party.
This is what I’m stuck between. I just got engaged on October 25, 2020 and due to covid and the economy I’m truly leaning towards going to the courthouse versus having a big wedding when we can use that money to embark on our journey together. But because I also come from a Catholic faith I don’t want to disappoint my family by not having the wedding at the church.
@@arlenetaveras159 the courthouse wedding was the best decision we made. we also threw a party but it will never hold that same special place for us.
@@arlenetaveras159 You can still have your wedding. You could do a smaller ceremony and then when things are more safe you could renew your vows and the people who couldn’t come can come then. My fiancé and I are going to have a smaller wedding. I’m still getting my dress and everything and then when COVID is clear we are going to throw a big reception where everyone still gets dressed up and invite everyone to celebrate and have a great time.
Cancelled our wedding venue /reception in Long Island. Us two are eloping in a garden in the poconos . It’s about us!!!!!!!! Congrats to you both! It’s about love and marriage! Wishing you all the best!!! And yes honey I am ordering a cute dress from Lulus as well!
My fiancé and I are in a similar boat; 6 months out of our date and want to cancel the venue on LI to have a smaller park ceremony and restaurant after party. Do you have any advice for taking this leap? Did you get any money back from the venue?

@@brittanymurrell3632 church wedding is what important the priest can married you by civil too you dosent need a civil wedding when you married in the church in u.s a you dosent need courthouse wedding the govement recognize church wedding is not necessary 2 wedding.

@@antualove7984 some of the Christian churches say that you have to be legally married so the church wedding isn't enough unless the person officiating it is a registrar and the venue is licenced for weddings.

It's exactly what me and my man have been talking about doing. us, his son, our parents and our two best friends at the witnesses, drive to Niagara Falls to this ADORABLE little chapel and get pictures at the falls. Perfect enough for us! Congrats on your marriage. You make a beautiful couple.

If you stay somewhere stay on the Canadian side. It's so much safer and more beautiful than the American side. Then you can do the ice wine tours in Canada.

I loved seeing this video. My partner proposed when we were away on holiday, we won't be getting married for years because we have bigger priorities and big changes going on right now but I know I want something different. I don't like the idea of speeches, walking down an aisle or having first dances together or with family. My dream would be to have a first look (my partner seeing me and me seeing him and capture that moment) and have the signing in a castle or something similar (I am Welsh and have Welsh routes but no longer living in wales so I want a castle to bring in my background) then to leave the room and greet our guests together before having a photo shoot in the castle, a buffet and drinks and music for others to party. I think there's this expectation of what a wedding should be and people maybe don't comprehend that your wedding is what you make it, you can do it however you want to and luckily, my partner feels the same way as me.

Thank you for posting this, I'm unsure what to do with my fiance, he is very anxious around big crowds but he told me he's willing to do anything to make my day. However I told him it's our day, and I always thought I'd want a courthouse wedding and I do, but I also want a party, I keep hearing there are all these rules about how a person should celebrate and when to throw the newly wed party so to speak. I keep worrying if I'll go to someone else's wedding and feel sad I didn't do a giant one. However he has such a big family and I have many relatives as well the courthouse just seems better and less overwhelming.

Very smart idea. I love seeing the big weddings but to me small wedding is best. That money saved can go towards something else.

This is so beautiful! My boyfriend and I want a quick engagement then marriage in a courthouse but I am soooo nervous, especially about family. Our parents are very opinionated about weddings and what it should look like, especially his mother. Im honestly afraid of negativity from them ruining the mood, I really wish for what you experienced. Maybe in the moment they wouldn't ruin it, but not being 100% sure gets me so nervous. Any advice? Did you experience that with any family?
Hi!! We were really lucky our families were on board, we did get judgement from others after the fact ( this was pre-Covid.) I would tell your family it’s really what you want and if they can’t accept that then i would ask them why, because this isn’t their day…it’s you and your spouse’s. I would just be super vocal about how it’s the marriage not the wedding!

Sometimes it is good to not invite family and friends due to drama and toxic judgement. I don’t want to invite anyone to my wedding if I get married one day
