After a knife, if I were stuck on a deserted island, I would choose that Snap On ratcheting stubby screwdriver!
It’s such a joy to use and so functional! Thinking of picking one up for my dad for Father’s Day.
Next time you buy wipes, get Tub O Towels. You’ll never look back. Absolutely bulletproof!
Agreed. And adding a coat of Balistol afterwards can't hurt to help retard rust. Especially useful for S-O pliers because of potential surface rust in humid climates.
Several folks have recommended the tub o towels, will pick them up!
I’m fortunate my garage is climate controlled, but have heard good things about balistol. Will grab a can!
Tub o towels is the best for cleaning tools. Snap-on truck has torque meter to test any of your torque wrenches and I Love the Snap-on bits, but the plastic bit case is truly awesome for organizing & protecting your bits and it fits in your Snap-on screwdriver tool case.its a must have!!!
Ha, you’ve convinced me, Scott! A future pickup for sure. And good to know re: torque tester, will try with my Tekton next time
As a agricultural mechanic my tools get very filthy. I have found that tub o towels work better than anything I have tried before. They make your tools look like brand new even after ten years of use and abuse.
Tub o Towels seems to be the best recommendation for getting tools clean. Will be sure to pick them up, thanks for the recommendation!
That flat knife/chisel thing is a Mora Knife. There are many other Mora options you could explore. czcams.com/video/mP2pAAa6mjw/video.html
Thanks, Doc. More tools to buy 🤣. Seriously tho, I had no idea all these options existed. Picked up a few more based on your video.
I believe the clip/pins youre referring to are clevis pins. They like baby versions of the clips that hold trailer hitch pins into a receiver
I had to get another master's seriers toolbox to put my tools in. 😂
🤣 between the foam and the plastic organizers it’s so easy to run out of room. I’m still okay for now, but I’m reorganizing weekly to ensure it all fits
Yeah I feel you . I had to get a 2nd Epiq EUV just for my screwdrivers🤣🤣🤣
I wipe all my tools off before they get put back in my box. Home Depot sells cheap microfiber towels and I use the citrus degreaser from Zep it’s safe for the plastic and rubber on my power tools and all my other tools. Keeps them looking new
Will checkout that degreaser. I picked up 30+ microfibers at Costco the other day for $15 btw
There are third party companies that will calibrate torque wrenches. Aztec Bolting is an example of one. However, with lower priced wrench’s it’s not cost effective to do so after you factor in shipping and the cost of the service.
Makes sense, at that point I’d just buy another $30 torque wrench. Sounds like I will be able to bring it on the truck so I’ll give that a try sometime soon.
I come to find out the smaller the fastener is when it’s most critical to metric and sae but bigger fasteners you can get away with more using metric or sae like that 15/16 would be find with a 24 or whatever it is.
Makes sense. I don’t really have any metric 1/2”, all the SAE half inch stuff I have is from my grandfather and ~50 years old. Good to know, re: sizing mattering more at one of the spectrum vs the other.
Those pins you referred to are called
Hairpin cotter pins or keys depending on your location
Snap-on 14.4 are great, I choose them over my 12v milwaukee... For bigger tool like grease gun or half inch stuff i go milwaukee, for the price you can't beat!
Right on. Many folks in the comments suggesting I checkout some of the snap on electric stuff. Folks, I have to save money somewhere 🤣 Will consider the ratchet someday for sure
@@HeyDerFolks ratchets and 14.4 mini impacts are amazing. I bought both used they've been working great! My dealer told me i could send them out for a complete rebuild for 150$ since the warranty is already out.
The 8 point sockets are used on square plugs. Some are SAE, you may need both metric but I only have SAE. I have an array of old 8 point sockets mostly Craftsman USA.
The Snap-on 14.4 cordless 1/4 Dr long neck ratchet is a must have. You will use this ratchet every chance you get and only use hand ratchets when you don't have a choice. In fact the 14.4v line of cordless tools are mostly all good.
No matter which brand socket sets you have, there is no better tools than the Snap-on 1/4 and 3/8 Dr chrome universals. They are compact and tough.
Other cheaper brand universals I call them fatties, too thick. Toss those fatty chrome universal swivels in the trash.
The Snap-on basic test light with incandescent bulb is the best test light on the market. Get it! I have the one with straight long cord and larger ground clamp.
I’m in the same boat with a bunch of snap on. My dealer might be right in saying i need a new cart
Either that or ditch the foam / plastic organizers. The toolbox widget stuff does a good job of keeping everything compact. I may experiment with 3d printing some organization as well
@@HeyDerFolks I ditch the plastic organizers right away. Everything is rather organized, there is just a lot of tools now and more show up every week 😂
Many size SAE and metric bolts are within a few thousandths of an inch of each other so The wrenches are interchangeable. They make 8 point sockets specifically for square nuts
Right on. Don’t own any 8 point sockets…yet! Will look into them
@@HeyDerFolks If you like Snap-on snap on definitely make some but snap-ons expensive I know craftsman makes them and I'm sure a bunch of other brands do too
Congrats on 2 thousand subscribers, that's awesome man 💯
Thanks so much! Took ~340 days to get to 1,000 and then ~80 days after that to get to 2,000. Has been a wild ride, but I am still having fun and appreciate that folks appreciate the content. Thanks for watching and commenting
How often do you need to recalibrate a torque wrench?
My understanding if once every year, or once every 5,000 cycles. Whichever comes first
You do know that a 12 point socket does work on a 6 point bolt right?
Sure, but is it the right tool for the job? In my experience you’re far more likely to strip a 6 point bolt when using a 12 point socket. Akin to using a PH3 when a PH2 is needed.
Absolute best way to protect your tool investment is a $200-$300 dehumidifier for your shop for humidity control and eliminate 98% of potential Rust on your tools
Good call. I’m fortunate in that my garage is climate controlled, but I do have a dehumidifier I’m not using in storage. Will get it hooked up and see what it pulls
Or use your channel to educate your viewers that a $200 dehumidifier will protect their tools
hate those headlights, threw them in the bin. the earlier model were better
I’ve heard good things about the previous version, never tried them myself. How come you don’t like the current neck light?
So much debt.
Not even funny now.
I pay cash every time on the Snap On truck, I do not have a truck credit account.
@@HeyDerFolks that’s a great plan. I pay cash so I can negotiate a cash discount with the truck/dealer. They will discount for a large Cash order!!!
In regards to the torque wrench question, I take my off brand torque wrenches onto the snap on truck and test them on his tester that's hanging on the wall. I've never had one that wasn't really bad though. I've seen videos on CZcams on how to adjust them yourself, not too hard if I remember right.
Right on. Will take mine on the truck on a future trip and see what happens
