That K9 is what is called "sight loud". Its a highly desirable trait that is encouraged in german hunting/working dog breeding. My Drahthaar does it a lot like this Shepherd. If he sees something he is trained to get, he will let you know that he cant get to it/vocalize when he is excited. Its super awesome, and ol K9 red is absolutely amped up. Good boy for sure.
I love how not only red is excited but his handler and the other officers on scene offered him plenty of praise for his catch.

Dogs train on a sleeve, so when it bites flesh it’s a different feel for the dogs mouth. The handler needs to encourage the dog that it’s doing the right thing and not for it to instinctively let go as it’s unfamiliar.

Loved this, I loved working with dog handlers when I was a cop, not sure I ever saw a K9 get it's first bite but I saw plenty of villains get their first bites, even got a couple of bites from over excited K9s, my fault as I got too close to the action. Those dogs were just so happy working and so proud when they were praised for their good work it made my heart swell for our furry missiles.

When I was a cop we learned when K9 showed up, to follow the handler’s instructions or you got bit. When chasing someone on foot this one guy’s dog went after whoever was running. Usually when handler yelled for cops to stop running, you did, and dog went after perp. Except one time a detective continued to run. He learned a painful lesson that day.
Aw it never gets old seeing a puppy playing with a new chew toy. It's sad though they didn't let him play with it a little bit longer. Maybe they did after the camera's were off. 😂

My big lab was like that when he was super excited. He needed verbal and physical praise alot, but if you just did a normal good dog pat when he was wound up, he’d grumble and stand there and look at you like you didn’t do it. So you’d have to really thump him for him to know he was receiving an encouraging pat. Then he’d go back to doing his thing, positive reinforcement delivered. Still miss him every single day man.

Bumping a dogs side like that mid bite is to encourage drive and makes them go harder. As someone who trains Shepherds and does security work with them, a dog can be on a bite and when they stop pulling or stop giving max effort a good love tap on the sides makes them go HARD

Looks like a student (the dog) from the KNPV (Royal Dutch Police Dog Association) method. Here in the Netherlands we train police dogs as a hobby pretty much how in the rest of the world they train show dogs. Trainer gets a puppy, trains him/her for a few years, 'competes' in the examination for police dog certification, sells the dog (they go all over the world, in the US army there are quite a few like the one that grabbed the Al Qaida number 2 that blew himself up) or breeds him/her and gets a new puppy. This results in extremely well trained dogs because it's done out of love and a professional could never put that much time in a dog. Also they are very socialized because they have lived their lives with a family. They don't care about breed only about the best bloodlines (mostly Belgian/Dutch/German shepherds though). In the US there are now quite a few more professional set ups that follow the same methods (less focus on biting and aggression and more on working with the handler).
"Pak hem" ---> grab him in Dutch
"Plaats" ---> place (of rest) in Dutch
But this one is lucky to have ended up with such a capable handler. :)

People think all dogs will engage, even if they trained or come from a specific bloodline. Street bites are different to sleeve drama. This dog was absolutely awesome, and the handler could feel him. I fully agree with the defensive method Vs the offensive line, especially for k9 civilian home protection (family defenders/companions). Bacon became 🥓.

Sad cops abuse dogs and put them in dangerous Situations they don’t understand. The perp would have had full right to shoot the dog. A dog is not an officer regardless what the law says. It’s a vicious attacking animal that stops only at a command by their abuser not by surrender.
If you’re not willing to risk yourself don’t be a cop. Don’t risk animals who don’t understand the situations lives with this abuse. I’d be sad if he defended himself from the dog but he had the right to. A dog doesn’t have the same rights as a person. A person who attacks a person who is HIDING would be grounds for lethal self defense. The dog is just trying to get rewarded.
Also, it doesn’t matter how good the dog is treated and loved outside of work. That just makes it like Stockholm syndrome (ifs dog is sentient enough to think this way which is unlikely). You don’t put the ones you love in such risk every day to save your own sorry behind.
