    Something people who don’t sew, create, etc. realize is that most of the time spent is in preparation…matching, cutting, deciding. Thank you Christine.

    I’ve finally got my cutting table cleared enough so I can actually utilize it and feeling motivated to be in here again. I cut and clipped 10 expandable storage bags while watching/listening to this video. I’m going to try using those little hangers many of the fabric samples come on for the top. Will let you know how that goes.

      Thanks Cathy. Yes, it take a lot longer to edit these types of videos, as I do separate voice overs for the sections that I speed up. I also repeat myself several times when giving instructions which take ages to edit out too.
      I love putting podcasts or YT videos on when I sew, but can't when recording. It's so good that you managed to get so many bags cut out in one video, and do let me know about the hangers. I'm yet to use them in a project😀

    Thank you for another interesting video and your time you give for it. 😘
    I have been sewing small bags for many years, so I already knew the sewing technique. However, I am still learning a lot from you. You taught me how to use double sided tape. This makes sewing in zippers so much easier for me. Using labels was also at your suggestion. Your use of upholstery fabric also gave me new inspiration, so that I now have a good (slightly too large😇) stock of it. Some bought on E-Bay and some for free. I have already sewn and sold or given away many sample swatch bags. Sometimes I am very jealous of the wonderfully colorful fabrics you have. I want to reach through the screen and steal some of them.
    Seems like people in Germany prefer all variations of gray and brown for their furniture. So it's hard to get swatches with beautiful colors and patterns.
    When I don't have time to sew, I often watch your videos for inspiration and to look forward to upcoming projects. Your voice is so pleasant that I enjoy listening to your videos while sewing.
    Now I'm looking forward to the next video about your best-selling products of the last three months. Hope you will continue.
    Hugs and Greetings from Germany❤❤❤

      Haha, that's so lovely Sybille. I also see beautiful fabric that others have and think "ooh, why don't I have that!", and aside from the upholstery fabric (which I love to sew), the two most important items for my sewing business have been my labels and double sided tape.
      My three monthly report is due today, so will film it this morning, and hopefully have it ready this evening. 😀

    Another great instructional video on bags. I love your colour coordination, matching vinyl to upholstery fabric. I have used those faux leather labels myself and found putting double sided tape on the back holds them in place, but my problem was stitching around the label in a way that gave equal distance from the edge on all 4 sides. Often coming to a corner I was a bit too far away to pivot, and if I took one more stitch it would place me too close to the edge. Do you have any tips on this? 🙂🇨🇦

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks Barbara. I also found that putting the DST on the back was helpful, and the vinyl foot. That really made a difference.
      As for the stitch length, I've seen some people raise their foot and move the label back or forth to enable a full stitch to be completed at the end. Does that make sense?
      I'm fortunate that my machine has a half stitch and a quarter stitch, so I can use that to make smaller stitches.... Oh wait! You could sew almost to the end, then reduce your stitch length, turn the corner, with normal length, then reduce at the end again and so on. Tedious I know, but all I could come up with😀

    • @barbaramason7636
      @barbaramason7636 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks, Christine. I did use the method of dialling down the stitch length as I approached the corner and you’re right, it was tedious. I only have a few labels left, so once they are gone, I think I will order metal ones.

  • @sharonwilson8208

    If you put those swatches in a hosiery bag, would that keep the gooey paper bits from getting all over the machine and other clothing? I do know what you're facing with that goo. I had 3 little girls who loved stickers. Inevitably, a few would be overlooked and go through the wash. If they made it through the wash, I would have a bright pink Barbie sticker staring at me inside my dryer! Oh what a pain, but not as bad as a missed crayon! Oh my goodness, what a mess!😂

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  Před 3 měsíci +3

      I've tried washing them in an enclosed pillow slip Sharon. I managed to get a lot of the paper off, which left flakey bits all over the inside. Unfortunately the fabric ended up with flakey bits all over it as well everything getting frayed and tangled. It was the most successful method I've tried, but also the messiest. I sat on the lawn out in the back yard removing all the bits from the swatches😀

      Thanks Sally. I usually have the most success with the heat press, but in this case, it was a huge fail😁

    Hi, love watching and learning from you. Can you tell me the measurements of the bag. Each fabric was 11 1/2 by what? Thank you😊

    Brilliant idea Christine. I note you have a US & UK Amazon store. Do you have an Aussie Amazon store? I live in NZ so often shop at the Australian one

      Thanks Heather. I do have an Amazon link as well. It's near the bottom where the USA link is. I haven't created the store yet though as it's new to the Aussie site😁

    Also, if you put the fabric all the Way to one side of the vinyl, it will save you one cut every time, just ned to cut one side only☺️

      Yes, that would be the perfect solution Tina. Unfortunately one side had staple holes in it, whilst the other side had a big adhesive label on the back. It makes the fabric stick to the machine. The side with the holes was the better side of the vinyl in this instance🙂

    It sounds as though wages are a little higher there than Canada, but possibly costs too for some materials? There's an ocean between you and some of your suppliers I'm guessing?

      Could be Zee. I did a comparison ages ago, but it fluctuates too much around the world. 😀
