  • I've dumped Lenovo's BIOS for the lovely Coreboot with SeaBIOS and SeaVGABIOS. What's the best companion for a fully open firmware? Qubes OS!
I've been using Qubes as my daily driver (together with some FreeBSD time on my W530) and it's time to see what's the hype about.
It's quite a chore to capture Qubes OS when you have SeaVGABIOS, so I'm just pointing my camera at it. Sorry about that.
    Episode index:
    00:00 - Coreboot
01:14 - The Qubes OS XFCE desktop elements

    06:00 - Using Qubes OS
10:00 - USB device security in Qubes
11:45 - Moving and copying files to different Qubes, secure PDFs, secure editing

What happens if you install Qubes on an infected machine??? I have a machine that was targeted with an Evil Maid attack. I cannot afford to remove the Hard Drive and replace it. But someone told me that I should install Qubes on it. What is your opinion? Please advise.

      Hello there,
If you are the kind of person targeted by an Evil Maid attack, it's important to do a complete evaluation of your digital life. Qubes could be part of the solution to the problem.
Please review blog.invisiblethings.org/2011/09/07/anti-evil-maid.html and www.qubes-os.org/doc/anti-evil-maid/ before making a decision and get an expert to review the state of your machine.
Although, if you can't replace the hard disk, then perhaps you don't have access to an expert. Make a secure backup of your disk, take it to a fresh disposable machine to have it scanned for malware and I guess Qubes could get you up and running in a safe manner, as long as you follow the recommendations from the links I pasted here.
I use Qubes for privacy concerns and the machine rarely leaves home, so please don't act just on my advice and get expert assistance.

I came late to watch the video late, but I am interested in the hardware side, why do you think your laptop represents the concept of Qubes? If you wold like to create another video about that, I think it will be a great idea. (I have subscribed in case you are interested to answer my question).

It's one of the few machines that, if you get coreboot + a wifi card devoid of proprietary binary blobs (such as the atheros + when instaliing coreboot, you also go for seavgabios, then you know your computer is, to the greatest possible extent, running on fully auditable, open source code.
For example, you can have a look here:

My X230 was patched by Vikings. I was afraid of bricking it, so I sent my computer to them.
