Didn’t touch a golf club until he was 23, and said he whiffed the ball many times starting out. In less than 20 years, he went on to win The Players Championship, and was the winningest player on tour from 82-85. Arguably the greatest success story in all of golf. Anyone who feels like giving up should know about Calvin Peete⛳️
My husband cried when you died... He always wished he could have you as a teacher... He loved you and I now see why... He saw your leadership and he knew you were a great man. ❤️
RIP , You were my inspiration long before Tiger. I was lucky to get your autograph at the Memorial tournament, and it was much cherished. You will always be in my golf memories.
The confidence from his caddie at 2:09 is stunning to watch. Just leaning on the flag like: My dude is definitely going to make this putt and be a certified legend. Fantastic
He's responsible for my swing after many years. Notice how he's a similar version of how Furyk swings his inside to out - less dramatic easier for amateurs to practically replicate though. Swing like that and you'll develop a nice draw every time. Been shooting consistently for many years in the low eighties because of you! Thanks,Calvin!
I always gush about Mr. Peete but he was a very, very underrated player and he and his wife continue to do awesome things for the game. A true Pro's pro.
Calvin's right hand takes control halfway through his backswing. It really shows when he keys the downswing at 5:12 by flattening the right hand...taking full control with it - rarely, if ever, talked about in cookie cutter instruction.
I find self learners extremely interesting, especially in a heavily technique driven sport like golf. How were they able to teach themselves so flawlessly?
i was discussing Calvins swing with David Leadbetter last week. David said his follow through from impact to the end of the swing was identical to Hogans.
That's right, Yankee, &...PEETE WAS NO BEN HOGAN!!! (In the event we are choosing on the basis of career earnings and wins you can give me the second.)
@bobscottjnr Ball position is very important, all the great golfers will tell you the same thing, if you set yourself up correctly at address you can just swing without many compensations.
That de-cocking wrist roll at around 5:10 and subsequent bowed left wrist at impact looks just like Hogan. No wonder Peete was so straight. I don't think I've ever seen someone come that close to duplicating Hogan's wrist action through the bottom of the swing.
Moe Norman....he'd have led the driving accuracy stats had the PGA not been so discriminating and hard on him as they were when he was in his prime and invited to the Masters....they didn't knick-name him, "pipeline moe" for nothing!
Yeah, Calvin Peete’s sweet swing is a variation of the REAL #SimpleObviousEasyClassicScientificRepeatableConsistentSignaturePatentedProfessionalGolfSwingByTheGolfGreatsOfOldAndNewSchools, a.k.a. The real #LTTF SWING FACTOR the perfect golf swing! Just saying 😅😂👍👌👏

Accurate, yes. But you don't win 12 PGA tour events without being a very, very good putter. RIP Calvin, you will never be forgotten.
The guy lead the tour in driving accuracy for 10 years straight . When he speaks you should listen. RIP Mr. Peete
Before there was a Tiger....there was Cal!
He was way ahead of his time not to mention a fan favorite.
he and trevino were my favorites in the 80's. they came from tough backgrounds and busted their rear ends to get to the status they obtained.
Wow I can't believe my grandfather calvin peete played golf ⛳
Your grandfather was my favorite golf player when I was a young man. I still play today.
@@dinowarren9621 cool I wanted to learn how to play when I was a little girl but unfortunately my papa passed
@@EBONEELAY He was one of my favorite golfers ever!
Rest In Peace Calvin. No one will ever drive it straighter and be such a dignified, true, champion.
Older African American gentleman at my local golf course told me about this guy today had to come check him out, glad I did this guy was great!
RIP. I learned alot from Calvin's swing. Pure ball striker he was.
Beautiful Course Management with moments of joy!

Fantastic
i was fortunate to see him a couple times in the 80s play, he had a wonderful relaxed smooth swing, and hit the ball dead straight

Sometimes the truly great aren't fully recognized...and this is the case with Cal. RIP great man.....
that music in the background lol !!!
To lead the tour in anything for 5 years is a feat in itself.
Big fan of Calvin Peete.
never paid any attention at all to golf until Calvin Peete. He paved the way for TIger.
Amazing, thank you for posting this. One great golfer and a fantastic person.
RIP Mr Peete
Love you mr peete!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What an inspiring story for golfers... I remember him; very unique in sports. It's the mental aspect I need help with, lol.
The King of Tempo.
He could have been tiger before tiger. What a natural. What a talent.
I met him at a course in Miami when I was a kid, really nice guy (not to mention a hell of a golfer.)
What he said about driving is something that isn’t talked about a lot, I wish it was

Now this is a swing I could get behind

Class act this guy.. you young dudes .. least you forget 12 pgs wins..!!!!!
So he led the PGA in driving accuracy by not playing fades and draws off the tee ? You’d never see that now . The greats just made it simple
Hogan was no Calvin Peete ;)

What a boss

That's OK, we don't care to know what brand of clubs he used FOR 10 YEars. You have a rest.
Golf is not hard. Just watch Mr. Peete
Fun to watch, completely bereft of useful content. He thinks ball position is important! lol
