I'm sold on it! What a great and thorough review. Some fantastic tones coming out of that little box. Thank you R.J.!
This is a great video. Super insightful for some of us who your channel has inspired to start our own. RJ I admire your approach to tone and convenience at the same time.
Great demo. Thank you.
Great review . So well presented with no wasted BS. Demos with explanations đđ
Perfect overview man, explained everything I needed to know!
Had to stop myself from clicking on the screen to switch options on the left hand panel you're working in. What a super-helpful and fun walkthrough, you should be proud.
After going back and forth between the D20 and G20 models, this video finally helped me decide to go with the D20. The handful of extra functions on the G20 are nice, but ultimately I wasn't super into the tone of the dirty channel - I'd much rather have the more articulate cleans of the D20 and get my dirty sound with an OD or a fuzz. Thanks for the helpful walkthrough!
RJ...never ceases to amaze me as to just how great a guitar player you are..!! Thanks!
Simply one of the best product reviews I've ever seen on CZcams. Solid. Now time for a credit card... Now a definite follower!
Hey RJ, happy birthday man!!! Thanks for the video. Awesome content and very informative. Enjoyed it a lot! Cheers
It's not what I would call a cheap amp, but for its features, and the quality of those, it still has a very reasonable price. I'm more of an EL84 fan, but it sounds really good, and I'm happy to see that more and more manufacturers are working on those compact, low wattage and versatile products.
Awsome!!! Thanks for all details.
Ok thatâs awesome and going on my 2020 list for sure. Love the idea and potential of that rig!! Iâm in
I want a rev amp now because of you! Awesome demo
Awesome job on this !!
Awesome demo and insights,
I really appreciate your review of this amp. It's packed with very useful features. The Revv D20 hits way more marks of my own than I realized. Very cool!
Thanks for doing this, it's just what I need
Very well done video. All what we need to know about the REVV D20.
It's crazy how flexible gear is becoming! This seems like the perfect CZcams guitarist tool. Nicely done RJ!
well if its not a marshall they are all the same...BTW, how much coffee does this dude drink every day ?
Great review! Iâm definitely picking one of these bad boys up this year!
Thanks for a great demo of the features. I've seen a vid with Shawn Tubbs using this amp as well. A lot to features for the $$$
I wasnât aware of this amp but man, it checks all the boxes for me. I am definitely getting one!
very nice explanation. thanks!
Nice video RJ , great topic not all amps take pedals well . I was in studio recently using an 18 watt Hughes and Kettner ...it was very good platforn for what I was doing. Thanks man ! Rock on!!!
Great , educational video!
What a beautiful sounding amp, next on my radar.
Wow, what an insanely packed amp with everything youâd need. They really thought it out!
Subbed your review is great on this amp.
I recently picked up one and *finally* getting really good squishy tube amp tones into my DAW. Everything works as advertised without issues. And I always seem to have issues with gear!
excellent playing
Way to go RJ. That's another $1000+ I need to spend because of you.
I was liking the Revv D20, now I'm loving it after your demo.
Great job!
I like the studio vibe with the lights! Looks like a dive bar!!!!
Awesome amp man! Love that "deer in the headlights" look with the LPD tho. I understand, been there myself đ
Stellar review
I've always been a more vintage tube amp kind of user but this Revv amp would definitely pull me in the direction of a modern tube driven amplifier, very well thought out and it sounds awesome.
Exactly what I am looking for!
Nice shirt, RJ!
All great points RJ! For me, a "pedal friendly platform" is key...I have two great amps, but my pedals clearly excel in one amp and sound comparatively harsh in the other!
Sounds good RJ, keen to see you check out the Suhr PT15
Great job RJ!! That amp is a go-to for me!
I like my Vox super minibeetle head for that reason. Gain can go down to 0 and still sound, superb clean. only thing missing is a effect loop on that one. nice video, only now found this channel, subscribed!
Very nice video :)
That Airline guitar sounds sweet
Damn...thatsa BADASS head man...not much on the new stuff but those tones are awesome REVV NAILED IT
Very well done and informative video! I was constantly distracted by that guitar man. What model is it?
TwoNotes stuff is insane. I have their Cab M+ that uses the same software, and itâs incredible how much difference the various speaker emulations give you.
Thanks... thought about buying one; now for sure :-)
BTW @ R.J. Ronquillo... I got here via Rhett's Top 10 of 2019 & Phil Knight's mention of the D20. I hadn't seen such a good demo before though. I had been thinking of either a Deluxe Reverb (with my heart) or a Deluxe/Twin Reverb Tonemaster (with my head)... then this thing comes along.
I'm already a Two Notes user (Captor & C.A.B. M) on my Marshall Silver Jubilee (2525C)... which is my favourite sound that *nothing else* can nail... but it can really only do that one thing well. I wanted *just* one more amp to do Fender clean and 'just breaking up' blues, plus *everything else* via pedals. Whilst I would still *love* to buy a Deluxe Reverb (just to 'have it', alongside the Marshall), the D20 - on paper at least - should nail that 6V6 goodness for clean, act as a comparable/better pedal platform (? Comment?) and be super convenient too. As a side note... the fact that either my 2525C plus Two Notes boxes, or the Tonemaster amps, or the D20 and a 1 x 12 (though already have that) would be less expensive than a Royer 121 and any other mic the Two Notes stuff models, is also not lost on me :-)
Hello. Great video. Almost ready to buy one of the two lunchbox amps from Revv. Looks like the G20 might be versatile having two channels. Just a few questions. Are they very different in the clean channel? Is the 4W too loud to use in a flat/appartment? How does the headphone output sound? I'm using Helix so it looks like a great amp to combine with it.
Youâre awesome
Thanks. I think you are great at featuring useful information about gear and how a gigging guitar player can use the gear in real life situations which for me is gigs from restaurant low volume situations to larger loud bar gigs.
Hey R.J.! I love the channel man. Quick question regarding the D20. Is it possible to toggle through the virtual cabs with a foot-switch? Or is it just with the knob only? Thanks đ€đŸ
RJ this video is killer, I may need to purchase this amp for the aforementioned reasons. I do have a question though, somewhat unrelated, I was recently called to do a van Halen tribute gig which isn't really what I do so my guitar arsenal doesn't have anything to accommodate that style per se. Can you recommend a shredder? Was looking at that new Ibanez prestige line since it seems I can prob get more use from those than just this one gig, figure wouldn't hurt to have a slick fast player in the arsenal. As always thanks for the thoughtful content, cheers!
great vid, rev d20 will probably sell a bunch amps because you show how useful and versatile the amp is. can you use a floor midi switcher to switch between patches live?
Amazing
RJ has better touch-tone-taste than 99% of the other guitar slingers out there in youtube land - one of the best in the business RJ Ronquillo!
This sounds like an amazing amp. The two note features really knock it out of the park for me. Not sure if I should get the G20 though? I'm torn
RJ, you're a friggin great player, plus you're a Detroit Boy. I heard you talk about buying your first guitar in I believe Allen Park, mine was from Music Villa in Livonia Michigan. I'm sure you have played the Token Lounge as well at some point? Cheers
Sweet. Maybe you can do a video on how to set up a virtual studio and the equipment you need to get started, im totally Amish when it comes that kind of stuff.
when i heard the pedals with it, i was impressed.
after seeing the software (usually no big fan of this stuff) - I was like "WOW!".
thanks for sharing. i can almost see me already spending hours in my home studio, finding new combinations and sounds.
Sounds like a great deal if youâre also into recording. Personally i still like my Fender Deluxe Reverb over this one. Input 1 in a DR will give you a sweet tube break up at a decent volume, if you need more headroom input 2 will do it. Also take pedals great. Great video as always RJ.
top kek The Deluxe Reverb takes Overdrive pedals really good. You can plug into the No reverb channel and will sound great with overdrive pedals. The reverb channel also sounds great with pedals but the bright cap might mess a little bit with high gain pedals or fuzz.
"that one friend who ACTUALLY bought a firebird X" đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
gas budget is small but the D-20 will be my next amp Fo Sho! and with built in Two notes the options are unlimited for cab choice :)
Hey my man, would love to know how you are setting up your gain staging within the Apollo software with the D20? Any tips or tricks you are digging for optimizing the tone. I'm still digging in to this little guy. Keep crushing and thank you.
RJ, it might be an interesting video , showing us your your music studio & equipment . And the equipment and setup you use producing your Videoâs.....thank you!
Very cool. Flexible. Space saver. Wide range of tone. Ideal man cave set up.
Man!!! With this amp all your need is some pedals for modulation and maybe an over drive (since the amp can get plenty of overdrive on its own) đ
Great features but learning these phone speaker's don't do justice to most demos Good stuff as always RJ
Yes I want to get the Revv D20, but I really NEED that Jeff Beck Shirt! Like right now.
Impressive-Just found this Amp-Questions:
1.) You can use it in the home studio at 4 watts going directly into your Audio Interface with the XLR out, then into your DAW?
2.) Once you create your cabinet(s) sound you like, you can play a gig using the sounds you created and use the XLR out to a Bose PA system?
Thank you for the videođđđ Definitely has moved me closer to purchasing this amp
Running a Friedman BE OD Deluxe through an Electro Harmonix 44 Mag power amp pedal as my gigging rig. My back loves me and I get tons of compliments on my tone. Used to be a tube snob, but SS gear has come a long way and has changed that for the most part for me.
Nice, what cab are you using ? And how do you take care of good cleans?
Food for thought
3:38 just a tangent. I never thought of strumming A that way, I always gravitated towards its 5th fret version, only up until the 3rd string (1-5-1-3). It's bec it's hard to fit the finger without muting an open E string right, or fearing it might be out of tune lol
#6 it was free, ;) nice little amp. \m/
Hello RJ. Thank you for this. Thoughts on running this amp through something like a Barefaced Guitar Cab? Thanks. ~Joe
Every time I tried an amp-in-a-box type pedal and got to compare it with the real thing, I cried a little and put the pedal up for sale the same day. I get that it's more flexible, way cheaper and easier. But what we're doing is similar to the mp3 thing: we're giving up quality to make our lives more easy.
Nailed it... I spent years trying to cheat the Tube Gods & failed. Now I'm building lower watt versions of the real things.
Great channel my man...subbed. I also picked up the D20 and it's on it's way along with a cannon M50 and more. Really gonna step up my YT production for my students this year. Would love to know how you are going to go about blending your audio with your vid using this new head. I'm thinking of going direct through my UA Apollo and syncing that audio when I'm editing in Final Cut. Man, we really have to do it all these days don't we. ha. We live in good times. Keep on crushing and thanks for reading RJ.
That's exactly how I do it.
R.J. Ronquillo you are golden my man! Thanks for the confirmation. Iâm dying to get my hands on the Revv. So sick. Keep on being positive and never stop creating. Peace brother! đđ€đ»
Did Phillip DeFranco edit your video? Just kidding. Im sold on this amp. Thank you good sir. Oh, and I discovered you on a Sweetwater interview. Noice
I love the Falcon.
Wow whatâs the guitar you played the 50âs licks on? Thatâs nice đ
Hell yea, R.J. Discovered the beauty of Revv!
Hmmm kinda regret my ox now.. could of picked up a new amp.
The Revv is a nice little amp. I tried it and ended up with the PRS Mark Tremonti model which is beast of tones. But I may still get the Revv too.... too many choices these days, LOL.
Do you have a favorite 1 x 12 cab/speaker for this? Have you tried the one from Revv?
Love your videos!
I want one since I need a small portable platform for home practice, recording and small jam gigs. I do wish that it had a better gain channel without pedals. I am trying to choose between this amp and the Mesa Boogie Mark V 25 that has similar features like Cab Clone but also a better gain and rhythm channel. Still this has more features than the Mark V 25 and costs $500 less so you could buy 2-3 boutique pedals for high gain. Also the Blue Guitar Mercury pedal nanotube amp looks amazing and is even lighter and about half the price and includes effects.
The Cab Clone is very ordinary compared to the Two Notes stuff... I don't think anyone would disagree. If you wanted that Mesa Sound, I think you'd be better off getting a non-cabclone version (cheaper anyway) and adding a Two Notes Captor and CAB M, or a Suhr Reactive Load with IR... but the Revv thing is just so easy and portable. IMHO, YMMV.
I just got it. Playing it through my Claret 2 pre playing out of my Yamaha monitors. What would be a great speaker? I am thinking QSC?
What did you think about the Bluguitar Amp 1 from the NAMM show?
Nice guitar. What make and model is it?
I continue to go back and forth on the D20/G20, seeing the benefits of each. I do love pedals, and don't use the drive channel on my PRS MT-15 so in theory the D20 Pedal platform style is perfect for me.
On the other hand, I'm stoked by the Purple channel in the G20, the "cleaner clean" and the wide switch for the clean (though both channels share the same EQ).
The Generator 120 MKiii solves all of this minus the price. Thoughts on the little guys?
@@kasperfauerby7389 well all right! Glad I could help :) I play around with a ton of different pedals (3 boards worth) not just overdrives. For me the clean Channel I would like to be very clean but of course the D20 should be able to do that with a low gain setting. If I know myself and what I like to play / mess around with the D20 is for me. You're right, I could just eventually get a G3 pedal if I really needed the purple Channel otherwise :) I just feel a lot of fomo with not having the purple Channel, but I don't even use the gain channel in my amp now. All through the front.
I'm not a subscriber but do watch many of your videos and very few if any I have seen use this amp, more common would be the suhr PT amp. Did your opinion change?
I use a early american made Deville 410 as a pedal platform, and a Boss Katana Artist for the endless sofware tweekiness sounds and efects, all that for no money at all.
You should check out a Rivera Clubster Royale Recording Top. All the tone and features you could want. Best cleans in the world and the high gain is the most articulate I've ever heard. I like the new Revv amps tho!
So R.J. just to confirm with you that in order, for recording purposes, I want to use the Two Notes cab sims I must be using a PC based DAW.?
R.J., what do you think of a Kemper as a replacement for tube amps in home studio?
Is it better to go direct to the church Soundsystem XLR or Mic a speaker cab? It would be nice to have a little bit of the speaker volume on stage and still have it in my ear
Iâm interested in the durability aspect, how will it be after a few years of usage? Also, Iâve never seen an amp with so much flexibility
Good video. ItÂŽs a good amp, but itÂŽs 1199. I prefer the Bluguitar amp 1 for 799. And itÂŽs smaller.
I have kind of a dumb question. Lets say you have a head like that and you're going direct and you don't have a speaker cabinet for stage volume. Where do you put the head? On the drum riser? Do you just put it on the stage floor?
How much clean is there before it starts to break up? Wondering about this for more surfy 60s stuff.
I'd like to see you do a side-by-side with the Line6 Helix version of the Revv stuff.
