- North Melbourne has hung on for a dramatic five-point victory over West Coast to kick off the Alastair Clarkson era in winning fashion.
Last season's wooden-spooners seized control of Saturday afternoon's clash with an unanswered six-goal burst in the first half and withstood a late Eagles surge to seal a 12.15 (87) to 12.10 (82) win at Marvel Stadium.

The man Sheezel. Outstanding AFL debut. Was like he had played 100 games.
So happy for the Roos. They were playing confidently and with the mentality they can win. Clarko has brought so much change and growth to this club, and they still have room to grow. They dug deep when challenged. It was a great win and very entertaining match. So happy for them and their supporters.
Their 10 fans deserve it.
This was easily one of the best games of round 1 because both teams are very much alike in skill level, and the Roos and the Eagles both have a lot of similar things that they need to work on in 2023, overall great game. Great job to the Roos! Gg ! 🦘 🔵⚪️

Roo Boys - been way to long since we should that brand of footy, take it on and have confidence, lower the eyes when kicking. Sheezel is something special what a debut, keep moving forward Roos
From the coach boxes, it's master vs ex apprentice. Also feel for ex Roos' captain Adam Simpson as it's hard to enter the 2nd year of rebuilding stage of Eagles.
Pretty good games for Ginbey and Sheezel… glad I had both in my fantasy team.
We (North) just keep fading late. We did it against Collingwood last year and it cost us, did it against Richmond and nearly cost us and then did it against West Coast and nearly cost us. We start well but can’t finish well.

What a finish! North Melbourne kicked off their new Alastair Clarkson era in style, getting a thrilling win over West Coast. The Kangaroos nearly threw away a 33-point lead and kudos to the Eagles for not throwing in the towel. Unfortunately, mistakes late in the game proved very costly. What about Nick Larkey's 6 goals? That was incredible.
Full credit to the roos they were challenged late by the eagles but held their nerve.
The umpires also played good late in the fourth for the Roos 😂😂😂
@@footyflamez7455 Yup, I remember a high tackle that the Eagles player ducked into and a deliberate out of bounds call for the Eagles for a ball that traveled about 20 meters along the boundary line before taking a left turn. Two sides to every story.
