South African here. I like the fact that we've got 3 world cups and stuff, but we'll never be the out and out best team on earth because there is no imagination or creativity in our play. It's kick and kick, and some more kicking. Even when we're chasing the game in the final minute, we kick. It drives me insane!
Mate I agree with you, the All Blacks semi-final lost to England we ran out of idea's because management decided to change a winning team. They too lacked any decisive actions that advanced their cause, and we lost miserably to the one team we can't stand, England. We expect to lose to South Africa now & then, but hate English supporters who love to constantly rub salt in the wound, if we lose to them. I celebrate when you guy's beat them. But they act like they dominate us, and only have 8 wins from 43 games. They are too scare to play a Test Series against us or it could had been worse for them. Good luck at the RWC 2023.
The All Blacks were without Aaron Smith, Sam Whitelock, Richie Mo’unga and Luke Jacobsen and still managed to win. Not to mention that the in-form Dalton Papalii also didn’t feature. Incredible!

Even though winning by a multitude of tries would’ve been more entertaining, there was a certain satisfaction beating them by a penalty. Ultimately SA’s negative, time wasting tactics backfired
I'm a bok fan and I can truly say that I'm disgusted at the way we play. It's ridiculously boring. Every time we have a little bit of space or advantage we kick the fucking ball. Who the hell thinks it's a good idea to kick the ball on your opposition 22?? WTF. Literally the last 2 minutes of the game we swing the ball to the backline and actually made a very decent run. Why can't we do that from the start.. Handre and Faf is so programmed to kick at the moment that they actually don't know how to play the game anymore. Kick kick kick kick. Nienaber must take his shit tactics to Football, I don't want to watch Bokke games if we play like this. I'd rather watch a snail chow a leaf.

@@rvh4034 have to agree with you mate. A couple of passages in the final 10 minutes I thought the Boks had us on the ropes. If they kept ball in hand and hammer away at the line they would’ve either forced the winning penalty or even got in range to score a try. Kicking while on the front foot deep inside opposition territory was not the best option.

@Slo Mo Blackadder did but going to the front made it easier for the Boks to defend and even get turnovers, ABs definitely need to improve in that area of the game.
I'm glad that you said that. Alot of people go on about Retallick and yes, no doubt he's a great All Black.
But what I think is often missed over the years is the influence Whitelock has on the AB's aerial game. The lineout often struggles a bit when he's not there. He's money ball on kickoffs and also usually in the top three tacklers every game.
The team can cover for Retallick's absence as there are plenty of ball carriers, but few have Whitelock's influence in the air.

In reference to the 100th game in townsville i thought it was a frustrating game to watch. I thought the ABs scrummed well but referee penalised them often when the scrum was going forward so i couldnt work out the referees logic on some of the scrum calls. I felt the boks slowed the game down with alot of stopages with trainer or medic on field. I feel the new generation of referees got sucked into sone clever old school tactics from the boks. At the end of the day the result is what matters and the ABs won the 100th between these two mighty teams.
I think that this 100th Test was the one that mattered the most for both Countries. To get to win the bragging rights for another 100 years was some 'scalp' to nail to the 'pole'. All Black Rugby came out on top. Not even the much vaunted Springbok 'Bomb-squad' was capable of holding the 'black-tide'.

What is also super disappointing is that the boks didn’t go for the championship win, they needed to win both games with bonus points, but clearly thought that was too much of a difficult task to even try

Facts don’t lie SA have only won 4 games and drawn once in the the last 10 years and every one of those games were close… This kicking game worked in 2009 we learnt and adapted to defend this kicking style of game is dumb.. Really hard and strong rushed defensive play … easy when you stop the game every 3 minutes. Their medic ran more metres than the whole Boks team put together.

@@Trajan2401 i think caleb clarke is still in the wilderness and is being overlooked, because of his choice to play sevens at the olympics and he may not be at 100% after an injury..but he is definitely a lethal player and a real handful..i would love to see him back in the ab's lineup in the near future, but i'm not sure if fozzie will select him this year

I hate the way Rugby is stepping back 50 years with all this kick and chase . When I first started playing in the 70's , the English attitude was persuasive in the University game in America. Lots of kicking . I played a season in Hawkes Bay in 85 , where they pointed out that kicking is giving away the ball and Americans especially should be playing Southern Hemisphere type rugby with our hand and eye coordination and physical tackling as we were all ex football (American) players. They were right and it changed my game for the next 10 years. But now the SA's are playing this crap game and the six nations has become the best rugby in the World to watch now.

Say what you want, the AB's got sucked into how the springboks wanted them to play. They were the puppet masters on the day and enforced their game plan while the other tried playing to their strengths (unsuccessfully). if you took your black jersey blinkers off, you'll realise how overwhelming it is to play against the boks when they play like this. And if they get it spot on, and mix it up with power, speed and skill while in the opposition 22, you'll be having a long long night mate.... reminds me of a similar style of play Peter de Villiers used when he beat the AB four times consecutively... and now all we hear is the moans as to how boring (effective) anothers' strategy is against the AB's strengths..

Was his first game back from injury. More to do with not having any game time for 3 months. Probably needs more time IMO to get his form back, came into the game too early for my liking.

Not sure why so many AB's supporters are wingeing so much. It was a wonderful duel down the path of a game plan orchestrated by the Boks - and they (the Boks) should be given credit for that. The AB's blow all other teams apart with their play and the games become boring with such high scores against. In this test it was hugely tense until the very last minute. And fantastic to see the AB's take it in the end (and I'm a Soringbok supporter), which is testament to their resolve and ability to compete in this different shape of game. It was an immensely exciting game.
