Yes. I think for certain generations, the magic of The Crown was S1-3. I'm 41, so I remember all of S4 onwards happening in real life as a kid/teenager (I'm 3 months older than William!), so I didn't find them interesting, just as my mother was critical of 1950s-80s because she lived that. I think having a 1900-1950 series would be amazing given very few would remember the events in real life!

I thought the show did justice to all of those people. After all, it’s a show about Queen Elizabeth, and they orbited around her. The show has done an amazing job of highlighting some of the pivotal events during the Queen’s long reign and how she handled them. Charles, the heir to the throne, and always under the spotlight, definitely warranted more camera time than his younger siblings. The multitude of Prime Ministers that held office during her reign were afforded much attention and some actors garnered awards for their performances. To encapsulate so many decades in around 60 hours, while giving time to so many people in Elizabeth’s circle, I think they did a pretty good job with the sheer amount of history at their feet. Take young Princess Anne, at the top of their list, I thought her scenes were great and they could have sidelined her much more but didn’t. And Emerald as young Camilla had just the right amount of presence on the show, considering the focus was on Charles and Diana, their courting and tumultuous marriage. Her scenes on the show were fantastic, but it was really a season about the ill-fated Royal couple, and Camilla rightfully got more time when she and Charles went public as an item. I think the quality of their performances in telling this story is more important than the amount of screen time they received, especially considering the various focus the show has taken and how it all relates back to its central figure.

I actually loved Edward's character. I never found him arrogant but rather confident despite the challenges handed over to him at Gordonstoun. Like Charles, he was neither his parent's favorite but was more sure of himself and well-adjusted. I would've loved to see his courtship with Sophie and how he protected her from media scrutiny, something he probably learned from his sibling's mistakes.

What on earth do you mean?? We absolutely didn't need to see their slaughter and I hated the way The Crown left the distinct impression that it was Queen Mary's decision to deny the Romanovs safe haven. From my reading about Queen Mary and others, I don't think that's been established at all. Yes, in ways she was a stronger person than King George V, but she deferred to him absolutely, and since it has by no means been agreed among historians that it was her decision, I think it was vile of the producers to portray it that way. You want to make up stuff? Make up conversations? Go for it, but that's too huge a thing to eff around with.

@@epona9166 Yeah, I was surprised to see that on the show, it was hard to watch but tbh I think some people need to be reminded of the brutality that _certain ideology_ carried with it, including to the royal family. Anything before the Queen was born should have it’s own show & period but I understand the reference instead of a flashback episode. We would love a show based off that era in all of the queens uncles & her aunt as well as her own parents.
Anne is definitely my favorite & I would like more episodes spent on all the Queens children & their backgrounds besides Charles & his tampons gate but I understand the show is about the crown & who will receive it .
God bless Princess Alice, she went thru a lot & still had genuine heart.
There definitely could’ve been a episode of the background done on the Spence’s & their history as it’s been said they are more Royal then the royal family themselves. I’m American so I don’t know a lot & this is beyond my time as Diana passed away when I was just a child & only remember her funeral being on the TV.I had to watch countless documentaries just to learn about her along with the royal family.
Spare me of Carmela the wicked bloodline side chick. Two families got destroyed because she wanted to live in her great grandmother shoes & Charles was not man enough to be honest with his wife. I’m all for love but that’s not the way you go about it & there’s a special place for people who take vows before god that they know they can’t live up too or try too.

I feel like it was a flaw of the series overall that they were in such a rush to move through time and get to the Charles/Diana drama. They spent four whole episodes on the last 6 weeks of Diana's life, but other seasons skipped YEARS at a time.
I, for one, was very confused by Anne's life. Last we had seen, she was loving the single life, having ill-conceived flings for the fun of it, and then the next thing we knew, she's in an unhappy marriage with children. When did that happen?!?!
Speaking of those other children, the show made a point to show the relationship of the Queen with William, but we never saw her relationships with her other grandchildren. I know that's because it's called "The Crown," so that meant they were going to focus on the person wearing the crown, and the people directly in line to it, which is why William got his own story line this season, but they spent plenty of time on Margaret and she was never going to inherit. But that being said, we never really saw Margaret as a mother or grandmother, either. I mean, we know she had children, but they didn't seem at all involved in her life.
So I definitely think the show could have benefited from being a bit more stretched out, so they could give more screen time to these not-as-important characters. I also feel it's unfortunate that they never showed any happy Charles/Diana time. The show made it seem like they were just absolutely miserable the entire marriage, and that's not true. Diana said in interviews that the happiest time in the marriage was when Harry was conceived, but it went downhill and never came back up after he was born. They skipped that. They went from having only baby William on the Australian tour where she outshined Charles to having two young boys in the very next episode, making you wonder how the heck Harry was even conceived if he hated her that much. The show makes it seem like Charles and Camilla never took a break in their relationship to focus on their respective marriages, and I don't think that's true. I think they did try, but failed and took up with each other again, which then prompted Diana to have her own affairs.
