    How great was season 2 of The Crown? While last season the show had more facts they got wrong, in this video we take a look at the historical accuracy (and some inaccuracies) in the events of the second season of “The Crown”. Warning: plenty of spoilers! The show got The Profumo Affair somewhat right. They got Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones half right. The Parker Divorce? Right-ish. The Billy Graham Timeline? Wrong!

      I'm sensing a lot of blame (or credit) being placed on Gordonstoun's role in shaping how Charles became. That is only one piece of the puzzle. Looking at Dr. Hahn and that school's pedagogy, a lot is placed on self-discovery, outdoor activities, and personal responsibility for your actions. This seemed to have worked wonders for Prince Philip and positively developing the man he grew up to be. But you have to keep in mind that Prince Philip was never set to become a king in his lifetime. Prince Charles had a completely different temperament than most heirs apparent. The rigor of Gordonstoun may have instilled in him some great qualities, but Charles has also had to deal with the pressures of living up to the ideal of being a king-in-waiting. He couldn't express views (like sympathy for Wales) without getting admonished by the family. He couldn't marry his first choice at the time. I AM NOT excusing his treatment of Princess Diana. I'm just saying blaming all of Charles' faults on Gordonstoun is a stretch. Granted, you have to wonder how much differently he would have turned out going to Eton College, his first choice school.

      Diana might have had some say about that - at least in William’s case.
      What the Crown doesn’t mention is Andrew and Edward also went to Gourdenston (however it’s spelled). At the time Princess Anne was in school they didn’t accept females but she sent both of her children there. Charles might have been bullied wherever he went. Not only was he a Prince and the heir to the throne, he was something of a dreamer and thanks to his grandmother (definitely not his parents) spoiled. Facts are facts- probably every child that ever went to any school has at least one person that bullied them and made their life hell.

    Take Phillip's infidelity. I interpreted it as extremely ambiguous. While I'll admit the picture is weird, I noticed it never actually showed any real inappropriate behaviour on Phillip's part, and no character outright confirms or denies it.
    The same applies to the Duke of Windsor's Nazi sympathies. Also, "Vergangenheit" may mean "past" in German, but not really "history". "Geschichte" is a more accurate translation for "history".

    I think the most infuriating "creative" half-truth was implying that Prince Philip was in any way responsible for his sister's death. She was going to fly to her brother-in-law's wedding regardless of anything. Prince Philip was at school and wasn't going to be there any way. It must have been a shock to him to find out about his sister's death, along with her entire family and comes as bit cruel not only to blame him for it, but also to make up a scene where he confronted by his father about it.

    • @JennEiland
      @JennEiland Před 6 lety +7

      Sara Araújo Marques I took the show's tskeway being that his father blamed him (his father already being established as "eh" at best) but that no one not grieving would take it that way. A child dealing with such a loss might surely blame themselves and those impressions in childhood (especially the sort of childhood Prince Phillip had) can weigh on an adult.
      At least, that's how I took it.

    • @irg19

    No wonder they sing “God save the Queen”. Queen Elizabeth has had a very challenging reign, the show portrays her as being maneuvered most of the time. I hope she had not felt that way. But if she was manipulated so often, no wonder she expected Charles and Diana to do what they did later on... protocol, always protocol. I still believe Diana did what she had to and helped the monarchy come into modern times. One thing I will say, prince Phillip is a horse’s patoot! I didn’t like his character in “theQueen” either. Spoilt snot nose. Queen Elizabeth is truly a survivor and I say God bless her.

      Well, I'm not British or even in the Commonwealth, but I can tell you from an outsider's viewpoint that the late Diana, Princess of Wales did about as much damage to the monarchy as the much maligned Wallis, Duchess of Windsor did in her day. It is yet to be seen whether Prince Charles will get to be king. There are so many devotees of the late PoW that it is an iffy matter. Some people seem to be incapable of forgiving him because of her statement (and this is a paraphrase) "there were three in the marriage and it was overcrowded". Time will tell if the late Diana, Princess of Wales, brought the monarchy "into modern times" or if she actually hastened its demise.

    An error they missed: in DEAR MRS, KENNEDY, Elizabeth is seen coming into the room to hear news of the JFK assassination in daylight. It was late November, and 12:30 in Dallas, therefore it 18:30 in London (it would have been dark). More, it seems as if a lot of time passed between the Queen learning of the shooting, and she is next scene in her night clothes learning of his death. In fact, JFK was dead by 19:30 London time, and it seems unlikely that she would already be in her jim-jams. More, it shows JFK drinking hard liquor. JFK has a terrible stomach for almost his entire life; while he did drink a bit, and mixed drinks, he was hardly a drinker of bourbon or scotch or whiskey. (In fact, neither JFK nor RFK were drinkers. Teddy, however, made up for both of them.)
