    Hi Kayla!! Great video. As someone who works in this field, I urge you to STAY BOTH KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CONFIDENT!! Read everything you can get your hands on. Apply science to real-life in a practical way. There's A LOT of BS out here, from the criminals AND the staff. Know your stuff, and don't let anyone disrespect you.

    @blackbox8490 Před 3 lety +7

    I am studying psychology and sociology and I am particularly interested in crime and deviance. I volunteered with offenders before and it wasn't so bad. I think I am mentally deficient in that whatever someone has done or will do it doesn't bother me, I don't get scared and am incapable of hating someone but I want to sculpt that into a strength. Just because I was apathetic and numb when my best friend confessed to her crimes, or when I had to save a life of a friend who attempted suicide doesn't mean I don't have a place in society.
    I was thinking though if I should become a forensic psychologist or study crime through a sociological perspective as I seem to prefer sociology to psychology so far.

To get further into my goal of becoming a clinical forensic psychologist, I wanted to ask a few questions. Do you think doing a psychology major along with a minor in forensic investigation and policing is a good option, or a minor in criminal justice? I was also thinking whether or not I should double major in psychology and criminal justice. Please let me know what you think! I think you're input will give me lots of clarity.

      @johannnar6239 Před 4 lety +4

      no, criminology mainly looks at sociological factors and statistics behind crime and a lot of the modules (at least in my uni) overlap with sociology. forensic psychology is what really looks into the psyche of a criminal's mind and the psychological reasons for it + overall psychology - later in life you'll be able to work in evaluating criminals' mental state in various ways for various things. criminology students can really only work in the police force or social services or perhaps surveillance, it doesn't really give you an exact job to do. with forensic psychology the degree is normally accredited with the local psychology organisations too so you can work in many psychology related jobs. hope this helped :) x

      @diyyaseedat Před 2 lety

      forensic psychology is psychology in the context of law, and the application of the science and profession of psychology to questions and issues relating to law and the legal system.
      out of all the options here it involves the widest range of jobs. there are many things you can do as a forensic psychologist and a bunch of places to work in - courtrooms, hospitals, police station, researcher + many more.
      criminal psychology focuses on abnormal behavioral patterns and studying thoughts, feelings and behaviors of criminals.
      crimonlogy focuses on studying causes of crimes and ways to prevent it.
      there's obviously a much more depth explanation to these subjects and I could link you a few videos that explain it in a more concise way than I could! i might be slightly wrong about some of these, but that's the knowledge on these subjects I have atm, as I'm also trying to decide on what I want to do for college. hope this helps a little!

      No, I haven't found any particular answer, but I have come to think that it is worth it. Criminology can help you in law enforcement and it is actually a must.
      Forensic psychology, or psych in general, is a very helpful thing no matter where you are and who you're dealing with. It not only helps you to deal woth problematic people, but by studying it and getting to understand the mindsets of people, it strengthens your own mind.
      Though some may view psychology as a nonsense, it's something we're dealing with every day, every minute of our lives. And the forensic field just helps you deal better with criminals and all that stuff if you want to go down that road.
