    great vids on the Hornet. In the UK the tool for checking gap in the plugs is called a feeler gauge. Looking forwarding to checking out all the Hornet vids as I have a 07 ABS Hornet.

    Hello sir, i have a 2004 Honda Hornet and i have a problem. While I was riding, it started to work only in two pistons and after that the engine died. I tried to start it but it didn't want to, I waited a few more seconds, I put the choke in ON position and then it started. And then while I was going home I noticed that in the engine brake there are a few misfires from the exhaust, several small misfires. What could be the problem? The spark plugs? or improperly adjusted carburetors?

    • @TheOldMechanic
      @TheOldMechanic  Před 3 lety

      Hi Andrei, If that happens in an instand, so from running good to running bad, instandly, then I would think about an electric problem. That could be a sparkplug or perhaps the sparkplug cap is loose..?. What I would do first is to see which cillinder it is. IF you have use a digital laser thermometer. Orelse BUT BECAREFULL..!! Feel with your fingers which exhaust pipe is 'cooler' then the rest.
      BUT start to feel far away from the cilinder side!!
      IF the engine is going from running good to not running good in a few seconds, then it could be a carburator problem. Perhaps try to add some carburator cleaner to the fuel, sometimes that helps too. Hopefully this helps a bit.

    Grease on sparkplugs? What for? No sens

    • @TheOldMechanic
      @TheOldMechanic  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Lukasz, I use not any grease as you have noticed. Its to get them easy in, and in time easy out. In previous years I sometimes struggled to get the sparkplugs out, and special with bikes where the acces to the sparkplugs is a 'bit' difficult. So to make it easyer for myself and future mechanics I use that grease. Greets from The Old Mechanic

    • @zapamietajgo
      @zapamietajgo Před 3 lety +1

      @@TheOldMechanic Hi, Thank you for the answer, applying grease does not make any sense due to the fact that, the tightening torque of the spark plugs is very small, about 15Nm. When you applied grease, even a special one, it will become old and stays in the thread and you can't clean it, after subsequent changes it may be a problem. For me, a clean thread, the right moment and that's it. Nothing else is needed. Greatings

  • @unexpected.suffocation5175

    Dear TheOldMechanic,
    I desperately need your professional advice.
    I own a Honda Hornet CB600F (2005). I dropped it on its right side while it was standing (very lightly as I managed to hold it a bit and there are no external damages as it has sliders of some kind). After I started the engine I’ve noticed fuel and probably coolant leaking from somewhere, hopefully from draining tubes. After that I noticed that the engine worked somewhat differently. I gave it a short ride on a second gear and it seemed to be fine but the sound of the engine was different. It is especially noticeable at idle speed. Besides, while on neutral gear after opening a bit and closing a throttle the idle speed rpm drops slightly below usual 1300 rpm and after a half a second returns to normal. And in general idel speed rpm deviates a bit.
    Please, let me know what could be the cause and what I can do. This is my first motorcycle and because there is a war in my country right now I have no other option then to solve this problem by myself. With your guidance, hopefully.
    Thank you very much in advance.
    Peace attend you,
    Dimitriy.

      Then its probably, just your carbs have been over flooded because the bike was on its side. Just take it for a ride ( if thats possible these days) and your bike will start idling normal. Please you and your family stay save !! 👍🤛🏍

      @@TheOldMechanic Dear Sir, Many thanks for your reassuring reply and wishes! I hope it is indeed so. However, 3 days has gone since that incident and the problem still persists when I staring the engine. Though I didn't have a ride since as I'm afraid to damage it. Just want to add that all 4 exhaust manifolds are hot to the touch. And the last notice. The spark plug in the 4th carburator which is on the right side was dry and pretty clean. Thank you once again.
