I appreciate your Tuesday's talks!!! Thank you!!
Thanks for all of your videos. I still have a ways to go with decluttering - but I have come a long way from where I was.
Dawn, you are just so good at what you do! Thanks for sharing your gifts and talents with the world!! 💜💙💚
You are such an inspiration! Thank you for the lesson! 💕
This was a powerful one. Laughing at the weight loss. I went Whole Food Plant Based and that, to me, is like minimalism for weight loss. But I have way too many kitchen gadgets.
I've done the minimalist month game several times, but with a twist! Some days I have more time or energy than others, so I print (or draw) a calendar (or 30 day period) and each day I choose an area, like my top dresser drawer - and purge 3 pairs of socks and a pair of underwear: that's 4 items. And that's all the time/energy I have that day, so I list those items on "day 4"! If I purge 28 items then next day, I list them on the "28th day"! I still play the daily game, but this works with me! I declutter, check off the days, list my progress; and its a total win-win-win!!!
Great idea
Sound like the declutter Yahtzee game! I need 6 things today. C’mon 6! 🤣
Love it!
Very interesting!
@@dannyh9010 how does that work? 😃
I utilized the same 5 minute only principle when I started to exercise at 327 lbs. The beauty of it was that I normally would walk 15 minutes or more and I soon became fitter than I ever have been, and lost 100 lbs along the way with lower carb eating! Thank you Dawn!
Woo hoo congrats 🎊
Congrats! That’s wonderful
Wow well done!
That's so awesome!!! Congratulations to you!👊👏👏👏 I have a few friends\family that have accomplished similar weight loss & becoming more fit. I don't know you, but reading this makes me feel so excited for you. It's a gift you've given to yourself & those that love you! YOU deserve to feel excited & proud of your journey. Celebrate & appreciate that you are healthier and stronger. It took dedication, time, a mindset shift, & probably hard work to put you first. 👏
Keep taking care!!! 💜
@@tracibeam6226 wow, you've given me more encouragement in a few words than my whole family has in years! Thank you for your uplifting words!
Can anyone else feel Dawn's passion in this video?
Very much so! So inspiring!!
YES ! SO good ! Love it!
I completely decluttered our home in 10 minute chunks of time. I went through room by room, set a timer for each occasion I was decluttering and I just kept chipping away for a few months. I’d also make a donation run every couple of days to keep the house cleared out as much as possible. Anyway, all that to say, this approach works and it’s been sustainable for me. That practice of small bursts of time for decluttering has remained a consistent part of my home management.
I spent 5 minutes decluttering my sock drawer. Its organized and I let go of a grocery bag of socks. Small but it feels great.
I saw a video of a mom that bought a whole bag of the same socks for her child and got rid of the rest, i dont usually like the idea of buying new things to minimalize but this is genius...no matching, no pairing, no orphans....😊
@@deboraballes9044 all my socks are exactly the same, so I don't need to worry about matching, pairing, etc. It started as "ok, so from now on I will only buy this socks" and I gradually gave away the rest as they got worn off and kept buying more of the same to replace them. I thought it was a good way of doing this without giving away stuff I still use, however if you are donating the others and not in a shortage of money, I don't see any problem
I also suggest sticking with white socks, because the colored ones fade, so the different pairs will have different shades of the original color
I don’t think people realize how much of a difference it makes. I have started to “minimize” my house it if it is completely out of control it takes an hour or so to get it back instead of all day. I am still in the process. After visiting my family this weekend, I made me feel very anxious seeing the amount of things they had on their flat spaces. I did not realize how far I had come until that moment.
Just to let you know I cleaned three drawers while you were talking. Thanks for the inspiration
Woo! woo! Way to go!
Love it! This is what I do- SOMETHING while watching
Excellent!!!
I had breakfast while watching… :-)
Read this comment and thought yes! I can do that too. Thank you.
Dawn at the start of lockdown in the UK I spent an hour a day decluttering and once I’d removed 19 bags of stuff from the house I couldn’t believe the transformation. However 12 months on I felt I needed to have another go, this is perfect. I needed this Brand New Information 👍😁xx
Decision fatigue is such a hurdle for me so I do most of my decluttering in small moments.
I am so overwhelmed just to “LOOK”. In a room. To start declutter. I did 2 mins. Then waited , did another 2 mins . .
Good for you! The momentum will come. You might like watching A Hoarder’s Heart CZcams channel (along with The Minimal Mom)!
Well done, 2 mins is success. I was overwhelmed with garage so I started tackling 1 item a day when I did laundry and then when we eventually got to spending an hour in there I had already done half of it. Couldn't believe the difference it made. My advice is drop donations off as soon as you have a bag. Out of the house so it cant sneak back in.
You go, girl! I find I just need a 2-minute start, and I'm off the the races--most days. 😋 --Kay
I let myself play June's Journey for fun. There are 30 second ads frequently. As soon as I start the ad I pop up and do a quick chore or declutter something. I can put away dishes, run a donation tote down to the car, hang clothes, etc so quickly. I get it all done without even noticing. 😁
Decluttering has definitely helped me like my family better. 😉 I didn’t realize how much getting after my kids to clean up was draining our relationship. The time with them is so much more precious than the stuff we constantly try to clean up. I am grateful your channel has helped me put things in the proper perspective.
Thank you for your comment! It has encouraged me to declutter toys. My kids and I spend many days stressed and irritated at one another over cleaning up their rooms. I get exasperated at how quickly their room gets trashed and I can tell that they are overwhelmed with their things and crabby at me for always getting after them about it. It is exhausting all of us, and ruining many otherwise pleasant days for us. The time we all spend cleaning up could be better spent doing things we all enjoy more together. ❤
You're a very good teacher, Dawn!! 🍎
I love how you always have a new and fresh way to present your information. Just when I think I’ve learned all I need to know, you put another fresh spin on this concept and I’m motivated all over again! 🥰
That is true! Dawn always does come up with a new way of looking at things!
I agree!!!!
"Guilt has left the building!" Truer words have never been spoken!! Thanks You!
Yes, I felt that, too. 😊
I need to put this on a poster & put it up around the house!!!! 😆
Well. I took the time to watch this, so perhaps I’m missing motivation not time 🤔
SAME HERE! 😬🤣
Hi 🙋🏻♀️
I’m missing energy. I used to have energy 😢
Applies to my state of mind. 🙄
Yes, haha! If I’m watching minimal mom on CZcams, I know that time isn’t the real obstacle here 😝
Love this! I actually just sold my sewing machine for these reasons. 1) I don't have time in this phase of life and 2) when I sit down and think, if my husband took the kids away for the day would I want to sew? The answer was no. Sewing was part of my fantasy self. I am happy it's gone, that someone will get use of it and I get a little more money for my savings.
I used to buy so many things for my fantasy self. It’s liberating when you decide that your actual self is good enough and that a lot of stuff only makes you feel bad about what you’re not doing.
Or, a lot more money! I've spent a lot, making things.
I have literally started by cleaning one small surface a week! Then practicing maintaining it the rest of the week before I would add another area. Seeing one clean space made me happy and encouraged me to get on to the next one. Once I had most surfaces under control I had the courage to go into cupboards and closets
Surfaces make such a huge difference!

Only way to keepus sane..
Does anyone agree..?
But by time we finish everythng nd reach the othr surface..it again is the same..
So we r ba ck to square one...
Haha😂
I made some time by doing crockpot meals, intentional left overs, or frozen pizza. That freed up an extra 15 minutes or more each day.
I hit my clutter threshold this week and feel like I can do anything. Four months of intentional living changed my life. Now, I get to decide little things like what kind of baskets look best under the sink. 💖
Amen sister! I gave myself permission to order meal kit boxes ( as long as I had coupons) in order to free up more time
So so glad for you!!! Yes that initial determination, plan, and sticking with it is great!! Thanks for the motivation!
That's the best part!! So fun when it gets there!
U are also
An inspiration👍🌼
Your concept of inventory management changed my life! It changed my negative self talk and I'm now in control of my environment and making my home an amazing place to be. THANK YOU!
I realized that I like most of my stuff. What I need to ask myself is, “Do I want to maintain this stuff?” THAT might work for me! We have to find what works for each of us. Thanks for the inspiration! 🥰

All hv to fight their own battles..

Losing weight is definitely easier, I've lost 51lbs since January. Decluttering is a mental process for me. Really like the onion analogy.
With the
Luggage..u lost pounds
My my..thats a stressbuster too😁😀
When I did my decluttering got rid a bunch of my crafting stuff. I thought I wanted to be a crafter but I didn't have the time. Now when I have free time I use that time to learn a new language and i find that much more enjoyable.
When things look overwhelming I always think, “5 minutes matters!” This reminder and “Do something today you will be glad you did tomorrow.” have become my mantras - the things that get me going. Thanks! ! ! 💝
I can do five/ten minutes quick bursts when someone is coming over. I can delegate someone to do a quick check on the guest bath. My husband can do a quick check in the living room. I do a quick check in the kitchen. Then the kids do a quick sweep of their rooms. Minimalism has enabled us to be able to do this!
"Low Inventory" that's it! I need to get back to low inventory. Pandemic had me in a panic mode and statched my pantries and laundry room and my garage. It is a chaos now! 😣
I made a large donation to the food Bank and I still have too much.
Must get this under control now!
Thank you for encouragement.
Cleaning and cleaning up are two different things . You can go a while without cleaning if you keep things nice and neat .
Agree but I find if I clean my house throughout at least weekly eg putting things away, dusting, vacuuming and kitchen and bathroom it's easier to keep on top of it. Not too much hard work scrubbing 😊
@@jrcs1347 oh totally but for those who don’t like the I clean . Yes I believe in maintenance.
I’m huge on keeping things tidy but the cleaning schedule is still a struggle. However reducing inventory is awesome!!!
Rebecca, totally agree. I clean homes. I have had several clients that the house looked like a bomb went off. I would tell them, I will clean the room if it is picked up( cleaned up). I would tell them I can’t do my job if rooms are an obstacle course. Closing a door of a room that was a complete disaster without cleaning it got the message across. Now they pick up and I can do the job they pay me for. (If I had to pick up all those rooms, I would have to charge a lot more for all that extra time and they wouldn’t be happy)
Totally!
Before my second child was born his room was our office and craft room. I got rid of so much craft supplies that I knew I wouldn't use. I had several times I cried while going thru it seeing things I made that I never sold. I told my husband these things represented a failed venture on Etsy and I just couldn't look at them anymore. I got rid of all that and now thinking back I don't miss the stuff or the way it made me feel!
I needed to hear this. I too have craft supplies for my Etsy site. I am slowly accepting that Etsy was a different season of my life. Time to declutter.
I like that... accepting that it was a different season. 😌
Marie Kondo, in her infinite wisdom, would put on the lens that your Etsy store taught you that you don't need/want an Etsy store. She says unread books aren't wasted potential - they are learning yourself and learning you didn't need/want those books.
I spent 5 minutes in my closet each day for the last few days and it’s amazing how much better it looks! I did a big purge about a year ago but still held on to too much stuff. So now it’s 5 minutes here 5 minutes there to really fine tune it.
I conquered a ginormous mess in front of and inside my closet by dealing with 5 items each day. That was it. The first day I tossed 5 garbage bags. They had nothing in them; they were empty bags in the pile. It got me started.
Holy hallelujah! I was just telling my BFF I wanted to clear out all the 50 bags of clothes we have but I just don’t have the time to go through them all. If I break it down to 1-2 a day, I can get through it all and still have time to do everything else I need to do. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💜💜💜
Another thought - If the clothing has been in bags. Do you need the contents? Donate with out opening.
@@Ford98270 I need to have my younger daughter go through and pick out the stuff she’ll wear and I Poshmark some of the nicer things to make extra $$.
Is that 1-2 bags a day or 1-2 items each day? Much like my file cabinets. I don’t have time for an entire drawer but I do have time for 1 file every day.
@@eileenlehonnyberg1576 Bags!
@@eileenlehonnyberg1576 Good idea. I managed to spend a few whole days in the last years to get rid of approx. a 2 meters high staple of files. But I procrastinated the rest of it, dreaming of the perfect system for years.
I liked the video when her sister wanted to get rid of her messy corner and they practiced how to come in and sort the inbox 👍 💪 Encouraging to recognise one is not alone.
Wow! The not having time in the future part really hit me hard! I have stacks and piles for “someday when I have more time”. I NEED that piece of mind! Thank you!
Don’t get discouraged. It took me six months to get through the house and garage. And it was definitely a relief when I was done. After finishing keeping up is so enjoyable, comfortable and not buying what isn’t needed rewarding. I now only need 5-10 minutes to keep de-cluttering things that possibly sneak into the house. LOL. As to staying successful, we’ll, it’s been over two years and I feel comfortable for any unexpected quests to pop in. Stay strong. You can do this.
Thanks! I’m in the middle of the first sweep but staying motivated.
I love having friends and family visit, but I always need a good heads up so that I can put stuff in its place and do a proper clean before they arrive! I just have too much stuff, still, and I keep getting discouraged even though I've been setting aside whole weekends to declutter.. I just never get stuck into it properly 😟. I REALLY need to start, even with these 5min increments.
@@katfangtastic1420 hey, how are you doing? Still decluttering or did you take a break? 😊
@@rdb4996 Thank you for asking! I looked back at the date when this video was posted (May 2021) and I have come on leaps and bounds since then!! I finally got into it sometime in July/August last year - I HAD to as I arranged a floor to ceiling renovation in my apartment, that took place for 5 wks in Oct-Nov. Turns out I work best under pressure 😂. It was quite sobering, having to go through literally every possession and deciding whether to donate or pack it up into storage for the duration of the reno project. The rest of my home is now very easy to keep tidy, the only things that still bug me are in my bedroom: an excess of clothes in the wardrobes and a tall pile of huge boxes containing photos and other memorabilia. Those are on my To Do list for this summer, but I have been successfully procrastinating for weeks 😅. I really appreaciate you asking how it's going - this is a great reminder and kick in the butt to get the last bits sorted - and also a wonderful personal realization of how far I've come since May 2021. So thank you, and I hope you have great day! 🌺
@@katfangtastic1420 so glad to hear about the progress you made! Go you! And for the last little bit: sometimes that requires some special ruminating and charging yourself 😉.
I hope to find/have my own realisation in the near future and reach the stage you are at. I'm sure I will be a much happier person!
This couldn't have come at a better time for me since I was suffering from burn out. I feel remotivated after seeing the video. I use your videos to motivate myself. I decluttered while watching today's video. Hurray, feeling less overwhelmed. Thanks for your help and support.😊
Thank you for more helpful information as always! Been following you & your family for about 4 months now and it has transformed my thought process on possessions!!
I recently went to visit my 82 year old mother out of town and asked her if she wanted to sort her clothes. We ended up decluttering an entire room in her basement and after I left she sent me a picture of all the other stuff she put aside for donations and thanked me for the motivation 😆 I was shocked but made my heart happy for her. Next trip my sister wants me over to help her! I will forever be grateful for all your advice & words of wisdom...and it’s helping me help others 🥰

You are just brilliant at this. You pull together these ideas and explain things like no one else. It is incredibly helpful.
I needed to hear this today. Over the last few months I've lost interest in decluttering, but you have movtavated me again.

I was laugh/crying when you drew an arrow to the thing in your hair because I kept looking at it and thinking what is that? Your videos and being part of the take back the house group has really changed our home life. Just little changes has made such a BIG impact! Thank you

I've have a donate box in my lounge and sometimes I only have the energy or the energy to get rid of a book or a cup or something but it goes! I find it too overwhelming to do hours at a time. I've lost weight recently and finally got around to clearing my closet. I now have half the clothes but twice as much to wear! I got caught in the trap of "that was expensive to buy I'll sell. because of lockdown all the donation centres were closed so I put it all in my shed (I have a small house) I put the stuff to sell with it by mistake and ended up donating the lot. it had been so long I didn't care that I didn't sell it I was just pleased to have it gone!
OMG! "Someone could come over, and it would not look like we had been robbed" 😂 great description!
😂😂😂
I have been decluttering my closet by category one at a time (dress pants, skirts, shorts etc.) which is not only manageable by time but also helps me focus how many items of one single category I have. It's going to take some time but at least it will get done properly instead of me burning out and giving up!
Dude you have no idea how much shifting my mindset from 'for other people' to come over allll the way over to the other category to do it 'for my own self' has helped me. I realized I have actually been on my own *strike* since a tornado flooded our basement and i had to clean out all of my mother's things and had no help doing it but was verbally abused and tormented throughout the process on multiple occations..... and here I've been questioning how i was going to get it done NOW that its gone on too long because ive lost that sense of pride and will to actually do IT because i used to love doing it and keeping it clean with a burning passion! I just need to get back to me and the reason will be worth it because I'm pretty much done dealing with 'the outsiders/others' involved....this whole time it was just that my give a damn to have other people AROUND was BUSTED because I just have me and my kids to deal with otherwise.... and frankly....thats enough for me.
@UC0cbiedwBCe7tQo8aWlLtOAlol thanks... Dont worry....im not stupid or desperate& aside from all that I am heavily armed and stocked on ammo. I would feel sorry for anyone foolish enough to mess with a woman of my caliber.
Thank you for the reminder. I need to make the push to just do five minutes despite my lack of energy. I like the thought of disaster proofing my house.
I set aside time at night to help me be prepared for the morning. I have more time at night and need more in the morning. I set up our coffee at night. I set up my outfit at night. I will shower the night before. I will have my bag and keys ready by the door. I even set it out for the weekend in case I have to rush out somewhere!
⚠️ Full on teacher mode! The whiteboard has come out. 😄 The main point is to make the time. The time will come back to you in the end since you are simplifying your home.
I did the minimalism challenge. I noticed that it completely changed the way I felt about our things. I was amazed by how many things we could have parted with, but just held onto. It was eye-opening.
I just did that 15 mins by 15 mins for my room with my 5 months old while she was playing. Now I just need to get the donation boxes out 😅
Love your channel! I can’t believe how right you are about what stuff does to you, hanging over your head. I got my mom on board and my dad is so HAPPY. He is saying thank you, thank you. I’m like dad, don’t thank me, thank The Minimal Mom. I also told him to buy her the book The Minimal House 😊

"get this crap out of my house!" I laughed out loud 🤣🤣
The mindset change that has really transformed my life is that I think carefully before adding anything to my Inventory. Thanks, Dawn. Really made my life easier
Dawn, I really appreciate how down to earth you are and how you break down the decluttering cycle. You are one of the few I feel are still relatable and are not just creating senseless videos to stay "current". Keep up the great work!!
It helps a lot if both the husband and wife want to work together on simplifying their life. I’ve worked for many families over the years and it seems that one spouse likes buying things and has lots of clutter and the other likes things tidy and is okay with getting rid of things.
This is my life lol we both do have a buying problem but I have stopped doing that to declutter because we have too much stuff in a 1200 sq ft house and I just can’t get him on board ! Men lol
Conflict, is it worth the tension, I still have to live here with them.....
Yes. I do wish that my husband valued less things like I do, but what I have found is that the more I D clutter my own personal things the better he likes that and it has inspired him to not hold onto as much junk. Because it does feel better even to the person who wants to be surrounded by things to have less. Plus it raises the question why do I have so much stuff in their minds.
For me its just the opposite, I am the collector/antiquer (hoarder) and my hubby is the minimalist
Lol that’s my life to a tee. I love decluttering and keeping things organized. My husband like getting into new hobbies and leaving everything out ☠️
Love the white board -I feel like I’m “homeschooled”
This is FIRE🔥, Dawn you are truly the decluttering-“bees-knees”🥰🔥😁🙏🏽💖
Guilt has left the building 😂. That's definitely my goal. I feel guilt and disgust every time I open certain drawers or closets in my house. The method of days of the month sounds like it would work for me. So let me go grab 11 items right now. Thank you.
I'm easily overwhelmed. Small improvements on a daily basis help me avoid that feeling. I can do five minutes even if I don't have a lot of energy. Thanks for this great advice.
Its her trick
We unknowingly spend more tme...than that...😀
Agree! I love that you show the messes. I think a big misperception is that minimalists always have clean houses (also, that we don’t buy new things. Lol). Showing your home when it has a mess helps people know that, it’s normal. Often, I think we feel we aren’t doing it right if our houses aren’t perpetually clean and looking perfect. Thank you for being real.
A friend of mine created the Wood Theory when she was facing a daunting pile of wood to move to the wood stove in her basement. Every time she had to go to the basement, she took one or two pieces of wood with her. The huge task was done quickly and painlessly. She uses the Wood Theory for non-wood tasks as well.
I did the game before, but reversed it. I knew I’d be more enthusiastic at the beginning . So on Day One i eliminated 31 items. On Day Two, I got rid of 30 items, Day Three i got rid of 29 items. And so on. Some days i did lots more. I ended up eliminating over 800 items. I still have more to do. Thanks for this video. You always give realistic tips.
Thanks for everything Dawn. We really appreciate all you do! ❤️
I am going right now to gather the crochet stuff that I know I won't do. I will donate it!! Thank you
Dawn you're such a HUGE inspiration for me. I watch your videos all the time when I'm decluttering. You have such a clear, simple and organized way of thinking and explaining things that I relate to. Today I watched almost 4 hours of your videos while I did a whole house decluttering. 😄 Thank you for being such a guiding light for me in my minimalism journey. 🥰
Just decluttered my bedside draw while listening to this 👍🏼
This is such a cute video! I love it!
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to help each one of us.
I was decluttering a closet and found my Grandma’s meat grinder...then I had to see if it worked...3 hours later I had hash for dinner! A great find, but definitely hijacked time! And a food processor did just as good of a move last night! I still have Grandma’s!
Amazing motivation. One of the best videos you've ever done. The freedom of time and brain space from decluttering and seriously downsizing your inventory is INVALUABLE 💜💜💜.
It does take time but it's SO worth it. I've been at it for a few years now. Always looking for something else "I probably don't need". Thank you Dawn for the inspiration!
My self care involves having a clean kitchen so I can go to work without thinking I should be home tackling it. I have been minimizing and organizing the kitchen that helps me prep faster. I can clear the kitchen really fast.
Me too...when my bed is made, the kitchen is clean. Good day!
Same
This is such a great idea! Just 5 minutes a day AND you will identify the clutter you have become blind to or where you hide it! Thanks for sharing!
I was in the phone with my mom and I decided to clean out a drawer that was bothering me. She said, oh, I should let you go, sounds line you’re busy! Told her no, I want to talk to you, just cleaning out a drawer. Had a great visit with my mom, and a beautiful drawer to show for it!
Going through my closet...Again...making sure Everything that’s in there fits and I don’t mind wearing it !
If too small or doesn’t fit right it’s out of the house..
I have recently been trying your trick of keeping hangers in the laundry room and hanging clothes from the dryer, then getting dressed in the laundry room, since it’s right off of the kitchen and the downstairs bathroom. It saves me so many trips up and down the stairs in the morning and is so much more efficient!!
You always encourage me to declutter. I have worked on cleaning and decluttering for the last 6 hours. I have to finish tomorrow
“Guilt has left the building!” Love that quote. Great tips!
Personal, I throw myself into something once i get started. So, I've had many big decluttering/cleaning days. but you're right. We don't always have the time. So just tackling a piece at a time rather than a whole big mess really adds up over time.
I love this one bc it helps with something that is SO often overlooked on CZcams videos, which is chronic illness. If you replace the idea of motivation/steam with the fact that some people aren’t well enough on those days, then this video can be really helpful for that. Love your videos. You have changed my home
I only partially agree with the concept that you won't have time later for ... My kids are grown and moved out, my job situation has completely changed this year, and we moved across the state. I now have time to garden, crochet, make dream catchers, and complete diamond paintings. Have I always had time for this many projects? No, but as I got older, I learned what I valued doing with my time, and learned how to prioritize my time. For instance, I sit with my husband in the evenings like always, but now I am working on a project. So while we are still spending time together, same as always, I am making better use of my time.
This resonates with me in regards to my back patio. It’s cute. But often I feel it’s too cluttered. Just now, I thought of a visually appealing wicker rocking chair on my porch.
IT HASN’T BEEN USED!!!!!
So it’s cute. But it’s not used. And, it may unintentionally contribute to my feeling of anxiety (too much visual clutter).
You did NOT use a Friends clip for the title!!! DYING.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I instantly thought of you Christine. 😉
I knew it! I haven’t watched the video yet but scrolled through the comments to see if I was right! Glad I am 😉
@@findingaway5512 Literally thought "Christine will love this!" when I saw the title. :)
Totally thought of Christine when I read this
Lol
So good!! And, yeah, I won’t have tons of extra free time, but my house will be tidy! This is my new favorite video!
It is incredible to spend twenty minutes most days and watch your clutter disappear - it works and it really helps with feeling bad about getting rid of things. I've gone over spaces so many times and thinned and thinned and thinned things out til I'm like yep this is all we need whew 😊 thanks so much Dawn
It is so hard for me to find the time & energy, at the same time, to finish getting my home decluttered! When I have the energy, I'm at work, so I don't have the time. I work a full-time job, and by the time I get home from work, I now have the time, however at that point I have no energy! So, I try to find time to do everything I need to do, including resting, on my weekends, just to start all over again come Monday! I think you have the right way of doing things...breaking it down into small chunks! I like the idea of challenging myself to get rid of something every day... However, I don't think that getting rid of the number of items based on the day of the month would work for me, especially when you get to the higher numbers. I DO think I could find the time & energy to find 5 items a day to get rid of for a month. So that is what I will do for the next 31 days. That will help me to declutter 155 items and get some "wins" under my belt and my place will be better off than it was. Even if I have to keep going like this for a few months, in the words of Dana, I've only made progress! 😊 Thanks for the idea Dawn, love your channel!!! 💝
Yes, that's exactly it: decision fatigue!! Not to mention emotional fatigue from dealing with too many sentimental items!
I love your videos so much! You’ve inspired a lot of ideas for how to manage my home, we’ve decluttered probably about 60%-70% of our things over the past few years and we are still going! Thanks for always posting such great content! Love when your sister comes on with biblical encouragement to tie into this lifestyle too love it! 💕
That is funny that you mention liking the 5 minute and 5 tips to declutter faster videos... those are 2 that I have watched several times each! I liked them a lot too! :D
It always amazed me how you come up with new ways to help a body declutter. I have a basement full of stuff I need to minimize. I was planning to do a version of your 5 minute plan but sub in 30 minutes to make it worthwhile walking the stairs. But the new plan you introduced will also help me begin to eliminate more clutter in our living space. I am so grateful every day I found you. Thank you so much.
I still have decluttering to do, especially in my storage areas, but our main living areas are to a point where it's pretty easy to put the rooms back together when they get messy. It's so strange though, I will get overwhelmed with the messes but my husband will say that it's not a big deal at all that we'll have this put back together in 5 or 10 minutes. And he's always right! I appreciate the little reminders from him so much and now since he has said it so many times (I'm a slow learner), I'm able to tell myself that too, even when I don't really see it, LOL!! So much of this really is about our mindset!
"OVERWHELMED WITH DECISION FATIGUE" I've never heard that phrase before in my life and it's EXACTLY how I feel with just the thought of decluttering. Deep down I know it has to be done but making so many decisions is so exhausting. One day REALLY one day 🙏 for me.
It is actually a thing, we have the capacity for a certain amount of decisions a day after that get less effective . Thats why Steve Jobs always wore jeans and a dark turtle neck, one less decision freed up....
Finally got hubby to help declutter oldest baby clothes and other baby items I know i won't use with the second. And got rid of a few other things as well. Our minivan was packed! It felt soo good watching it all finally go, knowing now I have room to organize second kid's clothes and stuff. Plus, knowing there's more to get rid of, but will need to take a different approach because the donation center doesn't accept those particular items.
Hi Dawn, I can usually follow your blogs with no problem but today your speech seemed a little quicker than normal. So I adjusted the playback to run a little slower than normal and it made it so much easier to follow along. This truly is not a criticism, I'm a big fan just a hack if anybody's having trouble.💞💞
I noticed that too.
I thought something was up 🤔
I played this game in March with KateKaden and we sold TONS and took my whole minivan full of stuff to the thrift store. Felt so good!! I had my kids bring me one thing every day
I've gotten some beauty items I've been needing and wanting for my birthday. It doesn't feel like clutter. I throw any expired items. I've been using what I have till the last drop! It has been so nice to see all that I have at one glance. I don't spend as much anymore. My bathroom counters are less cluttered and I can get ready faster. I know where everything is at.
I said this last week also. When I hit like it takes my like off. It said 285 with my like and then I went back to it and it said 284 without my like. It happens every time I hit the like button for you. It just recently started doing this.
Yeah! Haha! My Mom was doing the game and kept bringing stuff over to me! Actually, one was an ice cream scoop. I actually needed one!
I am playing that game this month! May 13 and have already donated 91functional but unused items or recycled old electronics or tossed expired products. Can really see the impact inside closets, drawers, cabinets.
Dawn, you are such a good educator and very motivating. I am so thankful for your videos!
I came home to a cleaned decluttered living room and kitchen thanks to my son! So worth it.
Dawn, you have changed my life in so many ways. I am looking at things in my house so differently than I did before. I have recognized what I need and what is just stuff. I've been able to get rid of 80% of my clothes. I've been working on our common living spaces for months. I have tackled tasks I've been putting off for years. We moved into our house before we were able to finish renovation and the upstairs has been a dumping ground. I actually spent only 20 minutes up there today and got rid of a large black garbage bag of actual trash and two bags of seasonal clothing that I've been doing bin shuffling with. I can't do it in a weekend, but I can do it over time. Thank you for your knowledge and encouragement!
Awesome advice! Forming the habit of 5 minutes is what is most important! Thanks!
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately actually! Slow and STEADY wins the race.
Please start a podcast!!!!!
Dawn, you are a God send ! You make us all feel so encouraged & inspired. And your practical tools , as well as eye opening, fascinating, empowering insights on the mindsets involved in this Journey are invaluable. What a gifted Teacher & Coach you are ! Thank you for cheering us on and being such a sterling example! You are my FAVORITE y’tube channel without a doubt ! I also have no TV by choice. Who needs the junk on TV when we can watch such fun & informative content here ? I downsized a while back & purged a ton. I’m a Gramma -To-Be now ! And I am working on moving 3 hours away to be near my daughter & her husband, & little one on the way ! So ...MORE needs to go! Esp since 1 new Home I’m considering is basically a studio apt ! I purged like 38 items the other day, & took to donation right away. I’m so proud ! Haha ! I love my books & CDs but many MUST go ! I made a pile of CDs that gotta go! I am allowing myself to listen to each 1 more time ( having on in background is fine)... then ... DONATE ! And then make another pass, & another ! I will put a few other things on Facebook Marketplace. Have never done it so we’ll see how it goes. Books, clothes, CDs, papers & more ... they gotta GO ( for donation; not marketplace). There R some books I have read that I wanted to save to read again “Someday”, & absorb the material more deeply. ...Um ... who has time 4 that? Not me ! Out they go ! I ‘spose “someday“ I can get / read on kindle if I DO ever get the time ( & energy ... I have a visual impairment so reading also takes lots of energy / strains my eyes. But I do love to read anyway !). Love you, Dawn ! I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day. I did! Hugs ! Liz in Buffalo
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I NEEDED to hear a little bit at a time!!!! Instead of the usual step 1, remove EVERYTHING from my closet, which is much too overwhelming. "Built up your decluttering muscles!" YES!
so many times I feel like I need a marker board, or even an old fashioned big chalkboard would do! :D One "like" is not enough for this video, where's the "super-like" button? You are a natural teacher!
