The side vents are not for cooling. They are to help equalize the pressure and prevent the hood from fluttering at highway speeds like the JK.

The side vents has nothing to do with the hood. The hood problem is in the latches. If you hold your hand in front of them with the fan running the hot air is venting out of the engine compartment.

I have a JL with manual trans and soft top. It’s a 19’ and the 20’s were on the lot. I was able to get the dealer to at the rims/tires off of a rubicon to sweeten the deal. I didn’t want a rubi because I mostly run dirt roads and shuttle Boyscouts to camp. There’s a great market for parts people pull off their JL to upgrade.

The 6-speed manual is great until you stall the Jeep because of the ESS, and I’ve had this occur a few times and it will not restart again until the ECU/PCM powers down. You haven’t lived until you block opposite lanes of traffic simultaneously from making a u-turn and the wrangler literally won’t restart for two minutes.

Recover your armrest in your preferred material.

Disabling that ESS (auto stop/start) is pretty easy on the JL. There are two plunger switches on the driver side front of the engine bay (right at the grille), one controls the hood ajar light and the other controls the ESS. You'll have to experiment to see which is which (must depend on which one the installing tech wants to use because I've seen either one), but simply disconnecting the one for the ESS will disable the system. You'll see a small alert (A!) symbol on the dash cluster on the right side but no chimes, and a message will briefly appear at start saying that ESS is unavailable.

By doing what you suggested, it will actually put a draw on the main battery...which in turn, will slowly run down the battery. You're welcome to do it, as long as you're cool replacing the battery a lot sooner than necessary - I worked at a Jeep dealership for years & saw it all the time. By doing what you suggested, you also run the risk of jacking something up & might also void your warranty. We also had several customers that would ignore the @! symbol when the mini battery controlling the ESS would die - thinking they "outsmarted the system"....that is, until their main battery died too, forcing them to then replace both batteries. P.S. legally, the manufacturers aren't "allowed" to have a permanent off button, that's why there isn't one. Just push the button - it's pretty damn simple.

I agree about the "auto stop/start". I have the automatic transmission and it's still annoying. I sometimes forget to hit the button when I get in and it's almost unsettling when it turns off at an intersection when you're not expecting it. I wish it would remember it's last setting when you start it up. Also, when you opt for the leather interior it upgrades the armrest to soft touch and contrasting stitching along with the dash. Great video! I really like mine and it is hard to pick things I don't like but the auto stop start is at the top of my list.

The EPA rating for the manual 2 door 2019 JL is 20 combined mpg with 350 miles of range. This test is performed with a sport trim vehicle, which has standard all season tires and a 3.45 rear end. The 4.10 rear on the rubicon alone will hurt your highway mpg on paper by 18-19%, and the tires add more roll resistance which will also hurt it. So take a conservative 22% range loss and youre at 273 miles to a tank. These numbers are based on 45% highway and 55% city traffic btw. So while I agree that 273 is rather low for a 2019 vehicle, its understandable.

You are right, the manufacture doesn't scrutinize the detail. It is small things but they are important. But for the Seat you can have it a little modification as to change or trim the cushion to make it slightly slanted to fit your comfort level, and the Arm Rest too can be modified by replacing the leather. These changes can be done at the seat repair shop and should not cost too much money cause they are only minor changes.

    3. My leather seats on my 18 JLUR are amazing around, comfortable, adjustability is good, durable and clean up nicely, ive had my jeep in all angles and they keep me planted nicely, hopfully maybe they break in for you or you get use to them.
    4. ESS isn't a problem for me, when I break engine turns off and when I let off the break engine turns on, it does suck that you have two batteries to maintain.
    5. Center console armrest is comfortable, my right elbow rests on there and so does my passengers left arm at the same time. Looks fine to me in my opinion, I also condition it when I do my leather seats, comes out super smooth and Shiney, there is a little wear on it from using it every time I use my jeep.
    6. I don't have this problem since I have a JLUR, not a big deal I would assume, I'd just cover it up when needed and to clean it I'd vacuum I up while playing a heavy bass song and or use a air hose to blow the dirt out but doing it carefully

Great video. Love 2D Jeeps with a manual transmission. I was getting ready to buy a Rubicon, however, very limited supply due to the Covid-19. I went to place my custom order for one at the dealership and the GM suggested I wait a few weeks to order a 2021 vs a 2020. Jeep Wranglers are expensive, even with my employer program discount (1% under dealership invoice) I'm looking at $53.5K out the door. All options included excluding the cold weather package (I live in TX) and the Rubicon will not be my daily driver (Chevy Silverado). These dealerships do not negotiate. If you live in California they will add a premium over MSRP.

Hey Dakota - I have the same (almost) 2020 jl-2door. Wanted to point out that if you get leather seats you also get leather on the center console and the door arm-rests. Also an additional major gripe about the seats that you have not experienced because you keep your seat at the lowest position; When you pump your seat up to a higher position, it goes down one notch every time you get out of the jeep. The reason is when turning sideways and sliding out of the jeep your leg will depress the lever. It's not noticeable but you will notice that your seat seems to be loosing height. (give it a try and watch it happen. It's a major design flaw.) I also really hate the feature that will not let you go in reverse if your door is not tightly closed. That may be an automatic trans thing, not sure if they do that on the manual but it's really annoying. Good video. Thanks for taking the time.

The trackhawk is a whole different animal. that's like comparing a pinto to a rollsroyce. the price tag is almost double the leather is way different and much more plush. Wrangler had to keep everything weather proof cause its not uncommon to get caught out with the roof and doors off. I just got a 2020 Sahara Unlimited and the armrest/middle console is not vinyl like yours. It is the same stitched leather as the steering wheel and it feels really nice
