  • Danny Mavromatis from Mavromatic shows how to get your Late 2011 Model MacBook Pro 15" (13" should be similar) working with Continuity.
    Bluetooth card module required must has the CAX marking, not just AX. I used the following one from eBay -- New MacBook Pro A1278 A1286 A1297 Unibody AirPort Extreme Card for 2011-2012 -- www.ebay.com/it...
    Here is the Wiha Screwdriver set I used: amzn.to/1sgLuzm
    For further assembly instructions check out ifixit: bit.ly/ifxtcax
    UPDATE: If you updated to 10.10.1 you will need to reapply the script or download the Continuity Activation Tool (github.com/dok...) and it will do it all for you.
    Download the script from here: www.mavromatic....
    Follow these instructions (thanks Lem3ssie!): forums.macrumor...

    What is more important to match the Part# of 607-8962 or the Model # of BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX or both so this fix works.

    Very nice instructions Danny, could you tell me if you simply just upgraded the wifi card without changing any of the software and codes, could the simple wifi and bluetooth functions just work right after the replacement. Thanks. I have the early 2011 Macbook Pro 13 with one of the antenna connector broken, so I'm thinking about replacing the card with bluetooth 4.0 LE instead. Continuity / Hand-off is not that important since this is my secondary machine and if that works, I will just leave it as is without messing with the system.

    once i buy the card and download the patch all i have to do is drag and drop it to terminal?

    • @Mavromatic
      @Mavromatic  Před 9 lety

      Pretty much -- the key parts are making the script executable by opening Terminal, you enter : "sudo chmod +x " without quotes, and drag you file on the window -- then pressing enter.
      Then you need to run the script, reboot. You should see the handover under System Preferences > General. Make sure you log in and out of iCloud -- that was my biggest issue. For some reason the entitlement/credentials weren't updated and signing in and out of iCloud on both devices (macbook and iPhone) fixed it.

      If things verify that they are enabled after running the script, make sure you have your wifi turned on (both devices need to be on the same wifi). If you have tried that and it still doesn't work, you may have to log in and out of iCloud on that 2011 MacBook. That should kickstart things.

    • @Mavromatic
      @Mavromatic  Před 8 lety +1

      Yes, you'll need to apply the patch (run the latest activation tool provided in the description) after you install. Then after each OS X update, you'll most likely need to also run the tool again... that's what I have been doing since I posted this video.

    • @CedricMcCay
      @CedricMcCay Před 8 lety

      Thanks for your video and responses. Danny! My Macbook Pro late 2011 is running OS X El Capitan version 10.11.15
      I suppose the activation tool provided in description will work for my device and, as you suggested, I'll need to run the tool after each OS X update. Is that right?

    • @Mavromatic
      @Mavromatic  Před 8 lety

      Yup! That is the same model as mine... you'll know after the update if continuity stops working. What I do is update, then open safari on my iPhone (or macbook) to see if it works. Sometimes it doesn't affect things after an update sometimes I have to rerun the tool -- could be related to what the update updates :)

    • @viraldaily8113
      @viraldaily8113 Před 8 lety

    • @Mavromatic
      @Mavromatic  Před 8 lety

      Not long -- the only annoying bit is another reboot (after you've already rebooted for the OS update). Sometimes you don't have to apply it again -- I think it depends on what Apple updates?

      Hey Danny, spoke a little too soon. All was well after a physical contact check as I said, but then after a couple restarts I got the Wifi disabled but the bluetooth enabled! So I dialed gatekeeper, rebooted and disabled SIP so I could run the Diagnostic checker and lo and behold Wifi is up gain after the restart (before I could run diagnostic in the tool). Did I do something wrong during the first Continuity tool setup? Will this reoccur if I switch back on SIP?

    +Cristhian Almora, yes -- check out this iFixit for the 13" -- same card should work. www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Early+2011+AirPort-Bluetooth+Board+Replacement/5131

      Hi! The key aspect to the correct card working is that it's marked with "CAX" and not just "AX".

    +Ron Flores do me a favor and try this app: github.com/dokterdok/Continuity-Activation-Tool/ That is a newer app that does it all for you and pre-checks a few things.

      Yes -- I think you have a MacBook Pro MC700LL/A A1278 which is the 13" model. They use the same 607-7291 card -- www.macpalace.com/661-6510-airport-bt-card-macbook-pro-13/15-607-7291-a1278-a1286-.html.

      niggasbhaten oops -- good catch -- I'll change the description to say 15" -- should be pretty close. Good luck -- it's a pretty cool feature to enable. Report back how it worked out for you too.

      will do. card will reach next week thursday so will inform you then. one more question, will i have to run this when apple updates Yosemite in the future or will the patch stand up too updates

    • @Mavromatic
      @Mavromatic  Před 9 lety

      niggasbhaten nope -- it should stick. OS X includes drivers for all cards Apple uses so it should be fine until they decide that the 2012 hardware is too old someday...
