    Hey Rob, the "teeth" on Jag pickups are there to increase the magnetic field, reducing hum and increasing output, making a "punchier" tone. They are basically extra polepieces.

      Thats for answering that question !

    • @crumbston
      @crumbston Před 6 lety +1

      Zax Zumu. You're pretty much correct. The Jaguar pickup is nearly Stratocaster dimensions except it is a little deeper which means more space for over winding. Otherwise the coil wire would need more tension which in turn causes the wire to stretch thin over the round ends of the bobbin. So now the pickup is more pokey, away from the harmonic sweet spot and into the fundamental. The claw picks-up a wider segment of the string providing some added mellowness. At least I think that was the basic idea. The question I have is, does the claw have opposite polarity to the poles? Here's a photo of the magnetic field of my CIJ Jag pup: imgur.com/a/3xauDie

      He's always been great, but he'd always freeze up when it came to improv. I think its his improv specifically that he's been working on, since he has to do it all the time for these demos. Chapman is just an insane guitarist, so he would make most people look worse in comparison too.

      He just gets better and better. And I notice he plays completely different stuff the minute he has a Strat in his hands, over any Les Paul. I love that the tone predicts what he wants to play. The instrument speaks to him and he answers.

    Mexican fender is, imho, the true Fender brand as Lee says: its the spiritual successor to pre-CBS Fender. Its all more than good enough, but utilitarian enough to be affordable and .. giggable! I love it really. I also love that they have really made a niche for themselves with the Baja and the classic series. They have actually eclipsed US Fender imho. The two best brands in guitars money can buy: Fender (by a long way) then Epiphone semi-hollows. Casino, Sheraton, Dot, 339, Wildkat etc. All just insanely good instruments for the £2-300 they sell for!

      I’m with you. The logo is extremely important for me. That’s why I never liked the old ‘90-mid ‘00s Mexican strats. Some older American standards (early ‘90s I believe) also used the transition logo. More recent Mexicans had the thick 70s style CBS logo. It’s cool but there’s nothing like the original “spaghetti” logo.
      I played a couple of these yesterday and they’re good for the money. The sunburst finish is not American quality but that doesn’t matter if you get a solid color. The string trees are cheap but I was impressed with the tremolo stability. It actually stayed in tune throughout my demo. Probably the best bang per buck for a new $700 ish strat style guitar.

  • @reisk1777
    @reisk1777 Před 6 lety +12

    I like Fenders, always have. When I first started playing guitar I had a black-on-black-on-black Japanese 3-bolt Strat. As a beginner I didn't realize that it was great guitar, and being young and stupid I wanted something fancy, something professional, something seriously rock and roll. I wanted a Gibson Explorer or a Gibson Les Paul.
    What I didn't want was a Telecaster, which I thought was ugly, uninteresting and made for country players.
    Somehow during that first year of lessons I managed to save up enough money to buy a good used American guitar, and as I got closer and closer to buying my 'real' guitar the only guitar in the store that responded to my fingers, the only guitar that made me feel like a better player, was a homely 1987 butterscotch American Telecaster. Plain white pickguard, maple neck, all stock, boring, and I couldn't imagine buying it. I desperately wanted to buy the 1979 Les Paul Black Beauty, because I thought it was so impressive. But I hated the neck, the frets were tiny and the weight was awful. In the back of my mind I knew that I wanted the Les Paul because I wanted to show it to my friends, and I told myself that over time I would learn to play it.
    I remember being almost dazed as I put down the money for that Telecaster.
    Today I own four Telecasters, all of them sweethearts. I also own a bowling ball Stratocaster and Gibson Custom Shop Explorer with a lime-to-lemon flame-top burst that cost me almost $4,000.00 and that I never play. Maybe it's an investment.

      First guitar I ever played was a late 60’s/early 70’s tele, can’t remember the exact year. A buddy who was helping me learn lent it to me. He was into more shredder guitars (BC Rich and similar). This was in the mid 90’s. Still can’t believe he let me borrow it for a year or so. Was not a cheap guitar then and was a family heirloom, his pap bought it new.
      I knew it was a pretty sweet guitar then but didn’t know how special it was.

      CHERRYMVFF I hear you but why couldn't they simply offer that in a new model for this increased price? Instead of completely now forcing you to pay more for these which have cheaper electronic components than Mexican standards. It has been leaked that the pots are no longer cts ad they have been. People will like these. But plenty of people were happy with the standard as well. Why not offer both?

    • @YogiSizzle2
      @YogiSizzle2 Před 6 lety

      •allstopblue • its funny pau ferro was always an exotic upgrade option at places like warmoth and even Fender as it was only offered on a high end model, now that its on MIM its cheap and a downgrade. Pau ferro is a great wood, its just not indian rosewood, just like indian isn't Brazilian rosewood like the 60s models. Personally I think the price is fine for new pickups, 6105 frets, 2 point bridge. For me gig bags are inconsequential as I own over 10 guitars and have plenty of cases and an incase gig bag. So I see some of the arguments, but on the old standards in eould have chunked the pickups right away. Also I'd be wary of calling the pots junk until these thing are opened up and we see gut shots. Right now I've only seen on bad report on reddit that people are sharing over and over as if it is multiple sources

    First things first, Andertons is my favorite channel. There. And I know I’m not the first to say this- but seriously, how are we supposed to have any idea what these guitars actually do when you start stomping drive boxes right out of the gate? I get that maybe it’s hard to make an entertaining long video with pure clean tones, but to at least linger on true cleans for a bit then dial up the drive gradually from the amp would give us some indication of what the guitars are actually doing. With demos in the style of this one I could not tell a Strat from a Jazzmaster from a Les Paul from a Hellraiser. No exaggeration.
    Captain’s run with the Jaguar is much closer to what we would benefit from!

      I'd say the USA built Tele/Strat is the first level of pro guitar - definitely the cheapest pro level guitar, as the Gibsons are like double the price.

    • @alihart7849
      @alihart7849 Před 6 lety +9

      Chris Downing I wouldn’t say that USA-built Fenders are the cheapest professional guitars by any means. If you want a great recording tone as a one off instrument in a studio then I see where you’re coming from. But as someone who likes to collect different styles of instrument and gig with cheap but dependable gear, I’d much rather use the cheaper Fenders or Squiers. They are still incredibly professional guitars at a reasonable price

    Hello Andertons, Thank You for sharing an informative video on Fender Player series. I recently got a new fender Mexican player strat Maple with SSS Config. This is the first time I am experiencing a fender instrument. I am quite delighted to have it and ordered it online from a well-reputed site. I have a quick query. I am a bit concerned about the instrument I got and here is my observation regarding its Volume management. I feel that it sounds low on volume. At volume, 1-3 it's barely audible, 4-5 a little audible between 6-7 it's satisfactory and at 9-10 it gives a considerable output. I am connecting my guitar with amp directly. My amp is Marshall 15CD Series 45 Watts. If I plug my old strat Aria STG series at 3-4 it gives the output what Fender gives at 8-10. The bottom line is if i have to play for practice it has to be between 6-7 minimum or 8-10 while playing along with backing tracks. I wanted to know this is the nature of a fender product/pickups or something else is wrong with my new guitar. Is it because of low output Alnico pickups or defect of some sort. I would appreciate if you can please advise.

    Having the tone pot there and on the bridge, even just set to 10 makes a huge difference. I don't tend to back of tone controls much, but pickups just sound wrong without them. I occasionally just drop in a 500kOhm resistor and 22nF capacitor for a "permanently set on 10" tone control.
    Unless it's a "shape guitar" it doesn't need to come with a case, i suspect most guitarists that aren't loaded will have a couple of cases or decently gigbags sufficient to transport enough guitars to do a gig.
    The teeth are supposed to shape the magnetic field and the extra metal has a very slight upper mid scoop effect in the way that a cover does, but without the drop in output.

    • @florianju5638
      @florianju5638 Před 6 lety +1

      Indeed.
      BUT you have that phenomenon with most brands if you consider the second hand market as well. In my opinion it's just not a fair/reasonable comparison. I almost allways buy (and sell) second hand, if I can. Even if it means that I gotta wait longer for something or have to do compromises concerning colours or something.
      Then again, in the new market, compared to other new stuff, those guitars are indeed good value and we can not expect Antertones to say "dont buy from us, go to the second hand market instead". That is allways good advice IF you are willing to do so ;)

      This is true perhaps I'm being cynical, and for some new is the only way to buy. £100 more than previous mexi range though!
