    Thumbs up. Mine just arrived yesterday, and man it is hot. Very very comparable to my 2009 USA lefty Fender Stratocaster. Basically, it’s an American Standard Stratocaster just with a Made in Mexico on its neck. A very beautiful tone, I cannot emphasize enough just how awesome this Player Series guitar plays and sounds. And at just under the price of an American made one. Rumor has it, it has nearly all American made components from the wood, to the pickups, and even the bridge is a fulcrum. Exactly the same bridge that is on my 2009 USA Stratocaster. Mine is a Lefty Arctic White with a beautiful Maple neck and fretboard.

    I prefer the clarity and dynamics of the new pickups. The sound is now more what I associate with a Strat. And it is always easier to use a tone knob to reduce the high frequencies a bit instead of trying to get more high frequencies from the guitar when the tone knobs are already on 10.

I was trying to find one of the last MIM standards, but the sales guy at the store recommended I order the new Player instead as they have improved the standard. It's true. So glad I waited. A friend of mine recently passed. I was able to purchase his wine red (amazing color) mim Standard from his family. I hated the ceramic pickups but, I was able to teach myself to solder in some pure vintage 65’s (less than $100). I also used a small piece of excess wire from the new pickups to jumper a wire from middle pickup tone connection to bridge. Of course, you’re Strat May not be as special as mine but, anyone can get a used Standard and watch some CZcams solder tutorials. You’ll save a few hundred bucks in the process.

    If you are looking for a new Strat, get this one. I bought one 2 months ago after first noticing the one he's playing on this video (Tidepool) in my local music store over 4 months ago. I researched it and then finally went in and held it in my hands. All I can say is this new model plays like butter. The medium-sized frets are perfect for pulloffs/hammers and the neck is so smooth. I run mine through a Boss GT-1 that plugs into the sound system and I keep my tones around 7~ish on my Strat. It sounds great.

    On this demo (I don't know what the tone settings were) I preferred the old standard on the 5th position, but the clarity was great on the player series. Overall, I think you can always scale it back a little if you think it is too bright. If the sound is to dull, or muddied on the other hand you can't give your guitar that much more clarity. 4th position the Player Strat was the clear winner. The middle, I kinda liked the chunkiness of the old Mexican. Overall, I liked the Player. I think it sounds much better.

    Hello Chris, Thank You for sharing an informative video on Fender Tone and volume management. I recently for a fender Mexican player strat Maple with SSS Config. This is the first time I am experiencing a fender instrument. I am quite delighted to have it and ordered it online from a well-reputed site. I have a quick query. I am a bit concerned about the instrument I got and here is my observation regarding its Volume management. I feel that it sounds low on volume. At volume, 1-3 it's barely audible, 4-5 a little audible between 6-7 it's satisfactory and at 9-10 it gives a considerable output. I am connecting my guitar with amp directly. My amp is Marshall 15CD Series 45 Watts. If I plug my old strat Aria STG series at 3-4 it gives the output what Fender gives at 8-10. The bottom line is if i have to play for practice it has to be between 6-7 minimum or 8-10 while playing along with backing tracks. I wanted to know this is the nature of a fender product/pickups or something else is wrong with my new guitar. I would appreciate if you can please advise.

      Manuel Vásquez yes me too. Wondering which to get.. new player series or the deluxe. Obviously the deluxe is 12 inch fretboard radius compare to 9.5 on new player and different pick ups.

    I just received my maid in Mexico Stratocaster with a humbucker in the bridge. I can't find a single flaw on this guitar. Near perfect setup. I was actually shocked. This is a quality instrument. I've owned American stuff and I'm big on buying America, but I just can't complain on this purchase.

    I liked the fact that you showed the dots on the EDGE of the fretboard......hardly any reviews ever show these . As I get older and my vision declines having these dots really clear becomes more and more important !

    • @preston2636
      @preston2636 Před rokem

      That's such a ridiculous thing to worry about. Literally every guitar ever made has side markers for frets.

    • @richardmuskett931
      @richardmuskett931 Před rokem

      Nope . Not ridiculous at all if you think about it a bit more deeply........allow me to help you .
      Most guitars have fret markers at the edge of the fretboard ( by no means ALL as you asserted) but the QUALITY of them varies ENORMOUSLY .
      For example , on my Taylor 214ce , the markers are very subdued and don't really stand out.......put them in a dimly lit bar especially with 70yr old eyesight , and they dissappear.......literally !!!
      Black dots on a maple fretboard stand out really well .
      Ibanez think that this issue , that you have labelled " ridiculous " , is important enough to install glow-in-the-dark markers on some of their guitar models.......I wonder who understands more about guitar construction , Ibanez or you ?
      I think , if you want to gun down someone's comment , it's best to THINK first , go for your " gun " second .
      Have a nice day.

    The MIM pickups sound like theyre the ones used on the Squire affinity = Good sound, but still not quite there and a bit raspy on the high end.
    New player pickups sounds so much cleaner.

    The only thing I personally change on my Mim strats is the pickups.
    I play old school tube clean sounds like tweed bandmaster, tweed bassman, etc and i like vintage or at least alnico pickups over the ceramic ones that come stock.
    Now for more dirty tone all the time the ceramics are probably better or let's say there decent .
    I just like the "clean" tone edging towards Grindy and i like to swap out the ceramics.
    But they are good for alot of people .

    FYI, Fender positioning of the pickup (pup) selector traditionally starts on 1 at the bridge. Neck is 5th position. This video reversed it, a common error. Good video otherwise, thanks. The new Players series is what I have been asking Fender for, for years. Just give us the 22nd fret without charging $300 more for it on a USA made Strat or Tele! These pups do sound clearer to my ears, more presence. And the bridge pup wired to its own tone control? Finally! That should have been a no brainer starting in 1954.

  • @smurfsvsurinals0134

    It kinda depends on the amp. The new pickups are very clean and clear but through a Marshall. Through a Fender it would probably be quieter and would have more treble. The old pickups are hotter and and maybe that’s better for some people. I have my MIM strat and it’s great I use a lot of fuzz and overdrive so the old pickups would be better. I played the new player series and the only things I don’t like would be that replacement wood for rosewood, weird frets, and some of the guitars feel like it’s a guitar but not something you can... bond with. SOME of them feel like they were just put together. It just depends on how you are looking for and after the long comment I like the MIM better.

    I still prefer the original mim ceramic pickups, they just have enough bass and grit to play a huge variety of tones, I've occasionally considered swapping them out for bareknuckles, but then realised I'm just gravitating back to the same tone.
    Someone recently summed them up as an odd variant on P90's rather than traditional single coils, which neatly sums them up.
    As for the tone knob now effecting the bridge, surely the original idea was that tone was an adulterated single coil, without any bleed due to the associated pots.

    I like the new bridge (it's the one thing I'd like different on my MIM); both sets of pickups are a compromise to the sound I'd like (in different ways), would like to hear them through a more familiar amp; the dedicated bridge tone control seems a better idea to me. On balance a step forward, but not enough to temp me to swap mine.

      Any guitar tech could rewire the tone pots for you, shouldn't be an expensive job. Or, if you're confident with a soldering iron, wiring diagrams are readily available on the internet.
