  • Vassilis Spanoulis is an all-time Greek player, but can he repeat his incredible success as a coach? In this video, BasketNews' Augustas Suliauskas takes a look at the Olympiacos legend's first season as a head coach. Spanoulis' style is a mix between the best bits of other famous coaches like Zeljko Obradovic, Georgios Bartzokas & Sarunas Jasikevicius, and some of his own brilliant ideas.

    As a huge Peristeri BC supporter,i followed this year really closely and with huge excitement.
    Spanoulis can become a really good coach, but as expected he had some issues while coaching this year. The positive side was that during the playoffs, he showed some signs of improvement as a coach,but some small ones.For instance,in the series against Panathinaikos,our 3rd quarter was terrible consistently and he never adjusted his game plan to help his players. This resulted in us losing touch with the score, having to cover a double digit deficit, while in halftime we were equal or much closer to the score.
    I think he definitely needs s couple of years, building his coaching experience,before going to an Euroleague team

    • @AugustasSuliauskas
      @AugustasSuliauskas Před rokem +2

      Thanks for the comment! I reckon it's normal he needs time to be a master, just like he mastered the game while he played. Speaking of adjustments, somestimes the lack of them on court as a coach could also be a result of the philosophy to stick to your game-plan. I hope EuroCup (if Peristeri get accepted there) can show more of his adjustment style during the game. Let's not forget PAO are still a better team than Peristeri, in general, despite the poor roster construction they had this year.

    • @miltiadis199
      @miltiadis199 Před rokem

      @@AugustasSuliauskas yeah it's definitely normal, the transition from a player to a coach is not as easy it might seem.
      Peristeri had an issue in the beginning of 3rd quarters in most games, not just in the series against Panathinaikos. The team seemed too slow in finding it's rhythm after the halftime break and in most of our losses,this was the main reason for it. I remember a Basket League game in around February against AEK. We went to the halftime break up by 2 points,and when the 3rd quarter started, AEK did a 15-2 run i think, before eventually coach V-Span called a timeout....
      As for the upcoming season, we'll remain in BCL and we won't go to Eurocup(this was announced today by the GM of the team)

Panathinaikos had their worst season in the club history in Euroleague.
