72 Melakartha Raga Names In Carnatic music, we have 72 Major Ragas called Melakarta Ragas. These are divided into 12 chakras, each chakra has 6 ragas. All Melakartha Ragas are Krama Sampoorna. Krama raga has all swaras in an order. Sampoorna raga has all sapta swaras in arohana and avarohana. 72 Melakarthas can be divided into two sections, 1-36 - Shuddha Madhyama Melakarthas 37-72 - Prati Madhayam Melakarthas Here is the list of all the 12 Chakras. 1) Indu Chakra The first Chakra is called Indu Chakra. Indu is the name for the moon, we have one moon hence this is first. The Ragas in Indu Chakra are, KANAKAANGI RATNAANGI GAANAMURTHI VANASPATI MANAVATI TANARUPI 2) Netra Chakra The second Charka is called Netra Chakra. if you've memorized the first 10 ragas then ull find that the first 10 ragas and the second 10 ragas' first letter is mostly the same, that is kanakangi and kokilapriya, ratnangi and rupavati etc. hope it helps!

Audava raga - any raga that has five Swaras in it Shadava raga - any raga that has six Swaras in it Sampoorna raga - any raga that has seven Swaras in it If a raga is not krama, it is called vakra (literal meaning crooked) raga. For eg Natakuranji has arohana SRGM-NDN-PDNS. This clearly is not a krama raga as Swaras are not in an order. Therefore it is called Vakra raga Hope this helps

Carnatic music has 72 melakarta ragas (parent ragas) as well as numerous janya ragas (child ragas). Chakras only have Melakarta ragas which are parent ragas. Mohana raga is a Janya raga (child raga). So it directly doesn’t exit in any chakra. Mohana is derived from 28th melakarta (Hari Kambhoji). Since each chakra has six ragas, the 28th Mela falls under the 5th chakra. So, Mohana’s parent is in 5th chakra. Mohana directly doesn’t exist in any chakra. Mohana’s parent exists in 5th chakra. I will be making another video on janya ragas as well. Hope this helped🙏🏻
Sunadavinodini is a janya raga(child raga) of melakarta raga 65, Meccha Kalyani. So it is not a part of any chakra. It’s parent is a part of Chakra 11.

Chakras consist of only Melakarta or parent ragas (72 on all) in Carnatic music. Hamsadhwani is a janya (child raga). It’s parent - Dheera Sankarabharana (29) exists in chakra 5.

They do not count as melakarthas since they do not meet the definition of a melakarta raga

When referring to Scale C, we start marking keys starting the key C. So S is C, the subsequent three keys are R1,R2,R3.
