- There are 4 very important parts in a motor vehicle to be cleaned to keep it running properly. The first is the throttle body which should be cleaned every 60 to 90k miles, Second is the engine air filter which should be cleaned every 5 - 10k miles and this should be replaced every 30k miles. Third is the mass airflow sensor which should be cleaned at the time of replacing the engine air filter which should be changed every 30k miles. Fourth and finally is the fuel injectors which should be cleaned every 60 - 90k miles.

Who's watching this after gas hit 5 dollars a gallon?
one of the best youtube videos on this subject.

Your videos are amazing. It’s already helped me with doing my front brakes and rotors ( back brakes and rotors were done 6000 miles earlier ) as well as two other projects. I inspected my cabin air filter a few weeks ago. A week later I tried to open the rear door. Two beeps and nothing. I had already confirmed the rear glass was closed properly. I phoned the dealership and was told I needed new struts ($$$$$$). I looked at about 4 or 5 CZcams videos before watching yours. 4 steps if your rear power hatch won’t open. Your step number 2 fixed it as I had accidentally pushed the black button on the glovebox frame. Thank you so much.
Happy to help. Hope you liked the videos to help me out 🫡
One of the best diy videos I have ever seen thank you!

First time watching your videos. I like it! Very informative and no nonsense. Thank you, I subscribed.
Welcome aboard! 🫡
Very good guide. I appreciate the explanation and use of everything in between. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Another great video. I noticed in your comments that you drive this vehicle for gig work. I also drive Uber, Amazon Flex, etc. with my 2017 Highlander Hybrid. This vehicle, in my opinion, is the absolute best choice for such work. Knowing how to perform your own maintenance is key to success in the gig economy, so your videos are amazingly helpful. Thanks for your work!

Excellent service trainer!!
We agree!
I just cleaned the throttle body on my 2017 Highlander yesterday. I did the MAF sensor last weekend after which the engine seemed to run slightly smoother although is wasn’t that bad before. After cleaning the throttle body the gas pedal seems to be more responsive and with a 3/4 push on the gas pedal the really got up and went. Previously it only accelerated like that at full throttle. After they were both cleaned this engine ( with 128,000 kms on it about 76,000 miles? ) runs and idles smoother than before which was never bad I just thought that’s how a 7 year old vehicle runs. Thanks to your PCV video I’ll be changing the PCV valve later 5his week ( I have to drive 1.5. Hours to get to the nearest Toyota Dealership.
Happy the videos help. Thumbs up ok 🫡
Outstanding and very informative video. Thank you.

Great video!! I love it! ❤❤❤ Easy instructions. If I take those parts to clean all the way to the butterfly, I will clean too the air filter holder lid and the elbow connector !! The whole thing 😂❤❤❤Thanks!

Love the accent. Cheers from Northern Ontario.
Awesome! Thank you!
My 2009 Pontiac Vibe 2.4L (Matrix 's little sister) Throttle body's location is almost same as Highlander, I dared to disconnect those hoses before watching this great video. Many thanks "Trackpalmer", you have enhanced my confidence to DIY it today for saving money. 👍

I have a 09 vibe with over 200 thousand miles great car 😊
@@billkramer1853 Totally agree 👍
This video is God like. Thank you my friend.

Good job sir .
So nice of you
Thanks 😊

My avensis kept the idle 400-500 rpms higher then it should be after cleaning even after a 3 hour drive so had to disconnect battery for 30 mins to reset ecu which did the trick now idles perfect
Smart idea. Normal driving should have made the adjustments though.
Ty. Great help
Glad it helped
Glad to hear it!🫡
Appreciate you :)

Thanks brother man for the informative video, I did the mass air flow sensor first so it can dry out in 30 minutes, then cleaned the throttle body after. my sister has 2005 Camry and it is a tight squeeze to get to compared to the highlander, I cleaned my 2021 hybrid it had on the display 497 miles range after the next day it said 548 miles ....mmmm better fuel efficiency?!
Glad it helped. It’s running better now. Clean it periodically 🫡
Any idea after cleaning the throttle body and maf sensor.. I have a humming sound directly at the intake manifold and tried resetting the ecu. Humming is directly from intake manifold with my hands on it
That sounds like air issue. Check your air filter or check for vacuum leak.
I just recently cleaned my MAF sensor and the throttle body and my 2017 Highlander better. It wasn’t that bad before that so I’m surprised by the difference. I will be changing the PCV valve in 5he next week o4 two but will be using a PCV other than Toyota because they want $30+ taxes ( Canadian dollars ) which is $10 more than a quality aftermarket PCV. I had a hell of a time getting the connector disconn3cted on the MAF sensor ( never actually got it off ) any tips?
There are connector tools like this amzn.to/3RMetjT
I use Electronic Cleaner for Air mass Sensor
That works
Hi, is Electronic cleaner similar to Contact Cleaner?
yes, but be careful -- mine is a 2013 Highlander and when I was disconnecting the sensor, it broke right off the sensor and connector. Now I gotta buy a new one but found an OEM on line. And if you disconnect the battery, you may also loose connection for your automatic car starter. I have one installed when new and every time you disconnect the battery, you loose the darn ability to use remote starter. Now, you gotta go back to place that installed the remote starter and have them "reprogram" the darn unit so you can start car remotely. Cost is $25.00 too... dang it... My Highlander is great though and this is remote starter is a bummer and wish I had known that before I got this one installed. You would think there would be a small back up battery that would hold settings while you disconnect the battery or have a dead battery. This happened about 2 years ago when my OEM battery needed replacing... Now I 've had the remote starter reprogrammed 2x for $25.00 each time -- a big rip off...
That's a disappointment. However, you can save that money by reprogramming the remote starter yourself. The problem is to remove the Lower dashboard each time. That's a 5 minutes job though. I backup battery would have solved this issue.
@@trackpalmer yes indeed..removing lower dash unit only takes 5 minutes? Really? Then you got squeeks and rattles you never had before..
I'D like to see a video of that..to save me and others some $$$. There are NO remote starters out on market that have this battery back up feature.. did some research and came up empty handed...new invention? Save me time and $$$...
@@MICHIGANMIKE12 I have a video showing how to install and program startx remote starter
@@trackpalmer can you add link to that? I DO not have that brand but maybe your video will offer some tips... just completed installation of new sensor..

Hello sir. I have the same highlander (2015). Does your car really have 258k miles???
Yes. It's almost 265k miles now. Regular maintenance will keep this vehicle running for a long time. I did a lot of deliveries and Uber.
@@trackpalmer Wow. Well done sir. Mines is still a baby with 83k but I plan on keeping this car till the wheels fall off. Thanks for the videos 👍
When do you replace brake pads? When do you replace rotors ? Thanks.
@@ferndog1461 - probably 70k or so. That’s when my 2016 needed it’s first set. Depends too on how you drive it obviously. Lots of idiots that just constantly brake all the time. Do yourself a favor and learn throttle control. When you drive see how long you can go by just using the throttle and not the brakes. You will notice the dumb drivers that go by you with 8-10 brake applications to your none
dealer charged me 180 for a throttle body clean ..........really!!
Yep. Do it yourself next time and update your Carfax
do not touch throttle body inside wend cleaning
Why?
You should not move the flapper by hand as it may cause issues with the positioning sensor. It needs to be done by turning turning the key into an On position and your help pushing on the throttle which will open the butterfly valve.
Never do that. Never turn the ignition on when working on the intake.
That's a good way to lose a finger.
I don’t agree with your assessment. I’ve cleaned many of these on Toyotas by moving the throttlebody by hand gently putting in a screwdriver handle to keep it open while cleaning it. I would never turn on the ignition while doing this job. Never had an issue with the car not relearning any small idle changes after cleaning.
🫡
@@TheCaioKyleBragaRead it again he never said turn on the car he simply said turn your keys to on position and press the gas pedal it could be done by a ply bar pressed by your seat forward and flap will be opened once done simple take off the ply bar and turn off the switch. I hope it helps 😊
It's easier if you just unbolt the entire throttle body housing and take it off the car.
To each his own. That's actually more work and the gasket will need to be replaced
Erreur-vous devez déconnecter la plug électrique du throttle avant de le nettoyer
Or what will happen while the vehicle the vehicle is off and no power going to the throttle body?
