  • Damascus Worship is a Catholic Missionary Worship Movement that aims to glorify God and awaken His people to worship and live for Him in Spirit (bold, free, and alive) and in Truth (authentic, faithful, and obedient).

    The Hymns Project arose from a desire to blend together the beauty and goodness of traditional songs with the power and passion of the modern worship movement. Drawing from the rich treasury of hymns, we seek to give joyful and fresh voice to these well-known expressions of praise in a way that can unite the Body of Christ across generations.
    - - -
    The text for this hymn was derived from an ancient Irish poem that was translated and set to the tune we know today in the early 20th century. Similar to the Lorica of St. Patrick, it is a prayer for God’s protection and presence.

    Wow a church filled up with young people worshipping. Im a born and raised Pentecostal and I must confess that there is something so attractive about the beautifully Christ centered structure of this and at the same time the openness/flexibility/obedience to flow with the Spirit. I think you all are doing an incredible job of leading. I hope for more worship like this to come forward in the coming years.

      @NT-sz1xq Před 2 měsíci

      @@dollyschwall8537 Jesus corrects that misunderstanding in Matthew 22:32 that God is the God of the living, not the dead. So Mary and the saints are not dead in how you're presenting. They are fully alive in Christ as you and I will be one day. And they are aware of what is happening here on earth; in Luke 15:7, Jesus said that when one repents there is a great rejoicing in heaven. Hebrews 12 says that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. In Revelation 8:3, the saints present our prayers before the altar in heaven. There's more to share but the point being is that Mary and the saints are actively praying for us, rooting for us and cheering us on to follow Jesus Christ; so just because we ask them for their intercession, that does not mean we're worshiping them (veneration does not equate to worship). This is why "but they're dead!" doesn't work because it's a both/and, not an either/or. It's the same thing when you ask your friends to pray for you. Yes, worship is reserved for God alone. But he also encourages us to intercede for each other as members of Christ's body.

    You have forgotten your armour.
    The third verse:
    Be Thou my Breastplate, my Sword for the fight;
    be Thou my whole Armor, be Thou my true Might;
    be Thou my soul’s Shelter, be Thou my strong Tower,
    O raise Thou me heav’nward, great Power of my power.
    Ephesians 6:11-18
    11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
    12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
    13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
    14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
    15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
    16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
    17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
    18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
    And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

    Fantastic version. It's great to hear some of the other verses. I have been researching this hymn. It has a very interesting background with its celtic routes and first Gaelic interpretation from centuries ago. I think this hymn/poem was the inspiration to John Newtons Amazing grace if you read the original text of be thou my vision and compare it to amazing grace. Its almost like having two pieces of a jigsaw that fit together to form a whole picture or a part 2 to be thou my vision. It makes sense especially if you know the history of John Newton and even St Patrick, you can join the dots and read between the lines.

      Does it matter!? The body of Christ is not just Catholics, but Eastern Orthodox and Protestants. If your so against singing a “ Protestant “ song and not focusing on who and what they are worshipping your missing the forest for the trees. Can we just stop with the Protestant vs. Catholic debate. If you trust Christ and have submitted to Him, have a relationship with Him, then you and we are all brothers in Christ. It’s not the name above the door, but the Name above all other names. The body of Christ sings songs from all the Christian denominations. Damascus worship sings evangelical Christian music and vice versa. All this music created to lift of the King of kings is for the church (believers in Christ) to worship to. Rejoice and be glad in it, instead of pulling out your religiosity card.

Telling that we are false Christians, in a false faith and a false religion, and they are the true followers of Christ, not us. Also they are making efforts atacking us and our denominations. Were being chased. Sadly, a brother in Christ.

      No speaking in tongues
      No mission trip
      No volunteering
      No financial gifts
      No church clothes
      He couldn’t even bend his knees to pray. He didn’t say the sinner’s prayer and among other things, he was a criminal and he was worthy of death.
      Jesus didn’t take way his pain, heal his body, or smite his scoffers.
      He was a thief who walked into paradise the same hour as Jesus simply by believing.
      He had nothing more to offer other than his belief that Jesus was who He said He was.
      No spin from brilliant theologians.
      No ego or arrogance.
      No shiny lights, skinny jeans, or crafty words.
      No haze machine, donuts, or coffee in the lobby.
      Just a naked dying man on a cross unable to even fold his hands to pray.
      For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that WHOEVER believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

  • @mikecapeci488
    @mikecapeci488 Před 10 měsíci +4

    One of the most beautiful things I’ve experienced in the Catholic Church is tradition. The Catholic Church remains unique from the more modern churches because of the traditions it adheres to. Whether they be important doctrine like the 7 sacraments, or simply the presence of traditional hymns that span generations such as Be Thou My Vision.
    This rendition of the Hymn however is not something I can support as a Catholic. Damascus Worship has not only added lyrics to the song but it also changed the entire mood and feeling the hymn is supposed to portray. Be Thou My Vision is a hymn that expresses humility and humbleness. It portrays a humble prayer that simply asks for God’s guidance. Because of this the most respectful and beautiful way to sing this hymn is through the harmony of a traditional choir.
    Rewriting this song into a “Modern worship” format takes away from the song’s meaning and the richness of tradition in the Catholic Church. There is no place for “modern worship” when it comes to traditional hymns. Because their beauty and meaning is best expressed through the reverence of the traditional choir. I pray more see this and preserve the Church’s beauty.

    • @RubyW7944
      @RubyW7944 Před 7 měsíci +1

      I don't necessarily agree that it must be sung w/a traditional choir, there are some amazing versions out there. I am not real thrilled w/the liberty of adding verses and restructuring one of the greatest hymns ever. Some things you simply do not reinvent the wheel. Started off great until they ruined it.

    • @jme493acw
      @jme493acw Před 6 měsíci +1

      It's important to keep in mind that throughout the history of the Church, sacred art and music has been adapted to modern styles. Take, for instance, one of most beloved pieces of music ever written, Mozart's Requiem. It is based on the ancient Gregorian chants, but the entire mood and feeling is changed, to use your phrasing. This setting is still sung in many churches to this day, including during traditional Latin Requiem Masses. Also consider the great composers of the renaissance who took chants from the liturgy and created polyphonic settings for them, such as Palestrina and Byrd. There were no doubt at the time some who felt that this adaptation to modern fashion was inappropriate. In the case of Be Thou My Vision, it is based on an ancient Irish poem, and wasn't translated into English and set to folk tune until just over one hundred years ago. Perhaps there were some who felt that was too modern at the time. It is possible to love the traditions of the church and also be open to changes in art and music.
