What’s the best way to keep the garlic 🧄 fresh the longest?
Can you make a video in how to deal with common garden (unwanted) critters, like neighborhood cats, skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, mice/rats,and even deer? Just ideas on what a home gardener may use (short of bb’s or electric fencing) thanks! 💚🦉
Please grow solo garlic . Single clove round ping pong ball size . Only ever bought it in Japan supermarket, can’t find it in USA . Other videos are long winded and non explanatory. Culinary pleasing in Asian cuisine , an easy one and done peeling and best when making fried garlic chips . Also Japanese cuisine use garlic stem/shoots/neck , Sold in bunches like at the veggie market ( but always found to be straight !lol). Texture like asparagus/ broccoli stem crunch , mild garlic tastes so no need to add actual garlic cloves , can finely chopped and used like spring onions for garnish . I want to have solos in my garden , please try and let us know how … the easiest and best way please .
My mum taught me to plant garlic on the shortest day of the year, and harvest on the longest day of the year. Nice that you did the shoot in the rain. I grow Russian garlic here in Australia. Thanks for the vid guys 👍🙏🏻
In my region the ground will probably be frozen
In my region there will be three feet of snow on the rock hard frozen ground by then 😂 I'm envious!
Same. Where I am the ground will be frozen down 3 feet and we will have at least 5 feet of snow. My garlic is planted this weekend.
Oh neat, I'm in Melbourne, that makes it easy to remember for next year. Thanks for the tip
Weedy!
I love how it’s literally hailing and you guys are so dedicated to this video!!!
00:37 "It is so pleasant to just sit in the rain"
02:02 *Starts hailing* "There's a little bit of ice in that rain I think, it's refreshing" 😂
You're amazing, thanks for the passion, dedication, and positive vibes!
😂 appreciate you Genevieve!
Gardeners in Southern California treasure rain in all its forms.
😂😂😂
Filming in the rain...THAT is epic. That's what I call dedication! 😂
Honestly, I am going to have to watch this again. I didn't hear a word you said because I was laughing too hard at you two (loveable) goofballs.
Put pad on right knee, kneels on left knee. 😆
Never planted in the rain? Here in the PNW I've done so much gardening of all kinds in the rain, since that's what it does half the year here. I have a black wind breaker w/hood that's water proof that keeps me from getting soaked at least in some places, and doesn't show the mud. Thanks for the video! 💕🌲 Loved the green garlic sniffing slowmo's. Super cute!
You guys are awesome. Thank you so much. I just planted cloves from the store. The sprouted in the fridge and set them in my porch rail planter. They are growing along with my multi Herb Planter.
Tip for removing the paper on small cloves: put them in a bowl and put another bowl on that bowl (creating a sphere) and shake. Steel bowls work the best, but any bowls will work.
First of all I love that Kevin has a knee pad on his right knee and keeps kneeling on the left... second, your entire garden is clearly loving all the attention you give it and the rain makes it stunning... third, I am one of those folks who thought I needed to freeze the garlic and killed it instead... I'm in Hawai`i, tough to grow here but I feel inspired to try again later in the year. Love you both!
This was a hoot! I really enjoyed watching you two break down the bulbs.
I loved the smelling of the green garlic, I often do that with my garlic and basil lol. I won't feel so weird now... I quit digging my garlic up a while ago, and exclusively just use the greens in a permaculture bed of shallots and garlic, it's just quicker and easier to get that flavor from the greens without washing and peeling. The sets lean over and drop on the ground, and I just throw compost over it in the fall. They literally plant themselves!
Always feel free to take a whiff!
You guys are so dedicated. I run for cover usually during the rain but sometimes I love the summer rain when it’s light and I remain. I’m laughing too hard while the bags get so wet.
Welcome to gardening in Florida brothers. Grow on! 🪴💕
10 years ago, I bought 2 heads of Elephant Garlic at a fundraiser. I planted those cloves that fall, grew them on, and them have been growing their descendants since! Seriously the most rewarding crop and not to mention easiest.
I love that dibber and happen to have a broken shovel that I can use to make my own!!
They're honestly so fun
Gardening in the rain is my FAVORITE thing to do. It’s so peaceful. I live in Houston Texas and it’s sooo refreshing.
Love you guys. I was in San Diego just this week for business, the weather was so atypical with the rain, I wish I could have stopped by to say ‘hey’. My garlic from last year is coming up now, I’m in 7b on the east coast. I will add, I plant it to keep animal pests away in addition to harvesting.
Yeah, it's been cooler lately!
“ ice in our rain”. In the Midwest it’s called hail. 😂😂😂😂 that’s dedication guys.
I have rain envy! Believe it or not, I'm in Western Washington and we haven't had measurable rain in 4 months. There were just 2 days when it misted Just prepared my beds today and will plant my garlic once we get a real rain. Enjoy guys!
Right? I'm in Houston and I purposely didn't plant corn in the ground bc it rains so much and everything gets fungus. Well, this year it didn't rain for months. Then it did once, and not again since. It's weird! Definitely could have planted some stuff!
Wonderful timing I was just wondering about planting garlic! 🤠👍
Transylvanian garlic is awesome. I grew it last year and it was the first variety I ever grew. Chose it solely because of the name. 🧛♂️🦇
That's great to hear!
❤- you are going to love the Music variety- outstanding flavor, large cloves, easy to peel. Stores well!
I save my largest heads to plant for next year. Thanks for the video.
My father in law just gave me a huge bag of garlic that he’s been growing for 20 years. I’m new to this stuff so this video was perfect timing. Much love from New York🤘🏻
It's always great to have rain in SoCal!
Y’all are hilarious and informative at the same time! 🌱🌱🌱
I planted my first 13 cloves in March. I am exited to be able to harvest them in December. All store bought. So we'll see how successful is will be.
YES,YES,YES. LABLE MARK THEM WITH STAKES. I HAVE A GARDEN MAP. HAD SO MUCH HAD TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT I PLANTED.
"Poppin' Cloves" sounds like it deserves some artwork and new merch. Your vibe just fills my soul. Thank you!
Working on it!
Thank you 2 and the rain for this laugh.
Perfect timing!!! My garlic arrived yesterday and my Birdie raised bed is almost ready... just waiting for the fresh compost to settle a bit before topping off the bed. Then it will be planting time!!! Can't wait for my very 1st garlic harvest!!!
I just planted garlic today! Took a day off from the day job to do my ritual! I only grow hardnecks, Music and Special Idaho. plant 3" down 😁 Iowa
This was great thank you! I was just having a great conversation at my garden plot today about ways to prevent aphids on brassica's and the gardener mentioned Peaceful Valley. Absolute perfect timing and so incredibly amusing to watch you and Jacques keep your spirits and smiles up while the rain became increasingly heavier and heavier! I appreciate you both sharing your knowledge!
Hey thanks for the video!! I have two varieties chillin & waiting to go in the next cpl days.
It was so nice to watch you guys & get excited about it.
Started watching years ago with your houseplants & we expanded our home gardens together into our yards! So great to grow along with you!!
🌱💚
I just planted my garlic today. This is only my second year planting garlic. It went well enough I'm planting again, yay..
Excellent video Brothers. You all had fun hoffing garlic, LOL. Elephant garlic is my favorite because of the size.
An organic conversation in an organic garden….rain included. 👍🏻
I grew four different kinds of garlic this past year and Music was by far my favorite. I hope you enjoy it.
You posted this the exact day I planted my garlic! One of my favorites to grow!
Great video in the rain! I plan on planting my garlic the weekend of Oct 22nd here in Virginia zone 7A. My garlic will have been in the fridge about 2 months from that date. I grew garlic for the first time last year and was very pleased with the harvest. My wife wants me to grow more yellow onions next season and stagger the harvest, so I'm going to try overwintering several onion varieties with a small hoop frame and plastic. This week we are getting five days in the low to mid 30s so that will be my first test. Keep Planting!!
Garlic are heavy feeders I water the Garlic with seaweed solution at the beginning of its growth.
Love the vids planting my garlic in the morning 🎉
Literally making my first attempt at planting garlic today! Great timing, and thanks for linking the garlic series at the end. I got Transylvanian to try (in NE FL).
This is why I enjoy watching you guys. It's raining and you just keep going 😂
I just put some in a few days ago after letting them sprout in my fridge! They already put up new shoots! Wish me luck it’s my first time growing it!
Aloha from hawaii 🤙🏽
Such a hilarious video. Thanks for the fun!
Epic vid Kevin and Jacques 👍🤙as always!! Thanks guys, this plant together is awesome 👍👍🤙
Planting my garlic this week, it's my third year growing garlic it's one of my favourite things to grow
Kudos for not running for shelter, I appreciate the dedication! Also THANK YOU for the advice for us warm weather locations, so many gardening shows focus on areas that regularly get snow, and rain and are nothing like my Orange County CA climate.
Great lesson 🥰😍 can't wait to plant mine now.
So, add a 3/4" dia. dowel up 4" from the end, 6" long out from the handle so you can measure 6" spacing and then step on the dowel to help sink the end to 4" in compact soil.
Haha…love it! Love your passion! Seriously, the momma in me hope you both warmed up after with a warm drink & not get sick.
I love that you guys filmed this in the rain 🌧️ 🤣. Little touch of ASMR does the soul good
Cutest gardening couple on CZcams ❤🌱
Love that you did this in the rain!
dedication through the rain...love it
7:40 In cold climate zones you plant the garlic the same : 1-2 inches down, the ground will freeze in the winter but the hard-neck garlic is fine because it has protective chemistry, much like anything that survives winter.
I really miss coastal SD! Lived there for 16 years!!
Fav. Video so far…love the rain!! 🌧️
I just died cracking up at y'all cracking up! Thanks for the information and the laughs.
Also, I'm glad it actually rained for you this time of year. ❤️
sounds like some nice garlic variety's I hope to get my garlic planted really soon
You guys sitting in the pouring rain was strangely entertaining to me and my wife 😂 kudos for the commitment and professionalism. I love your garlic videos. Always packed with information.
ha! I just planted my garlic today :) first time so hopefully it will do great!
Thank you guys for this video. I got the garlic in the fridge, no dig garden, Just need that planting stick you use. lol. This is my first time trying garlic. I planted a few tiny cloves few weeks ago testing my soil for the main crop I plan to put in the ground in November. Greens coming up. Zone 6a. My garden is keeping me young. Again thanks. In my 70's and watching many channels. P. s. besides. This is keeping me out of trouble. lol
Jacque, you should get a longer rod, like a standard shovel, and put a foot push at the 4” or 6” height so you can make those holes faster, with body weight, and while standing.
Hilarious video that was also super informative! We are getting ready here in Canada to plant our garlic before the first snowfall - We typically grow the Music variety, but loved hearing about these other varieties. Will definitely have to look into them for next year's crop.
Thanks for the tip on green garlic!! Can’t wait to try this!
Love guys! Thanks for your commitment 😅
What? 250 cloves in the ground? Hard-core! That rain bit was hilarious...
Planting garlic while it's sprinkling for a moment over there. The plants in the garden are like what it's raining!!
We live in zone 5 and have always followed the recommended planting depth of the tip being 2 inches below the surface. Does well
This was so entertaining. One of favorites. You 2 are hilarious!!!!
😂agree😂
Starts shooting without rain...
Starts raining while talking and shooting..
Ends the planting and shooting still with rain...
The dedication on all of your team, especially Kevin and Jacques. You make it fun whatever the weather is.
That is sooo cool! Love it in the rain! How unique! This is a must especially where I live and rains like that year round in northern Spain. Thank You! Now I have no excuse if it rains.
You guys are SO funny! All of your videos are really entertaining. Thank you.
You should do all your videos in the rain, this was so funny. Love the shared wisdom!
Thank you. You two are entertaining.❤️
love the chemistry and humor
I just wanted to say how much I love your cat! 🥰
Sticking to the bit.
I grew up in SD and I'm ROFLMAO watching you guys! Thoroughly enjoyable ;D
Babka is in good company. My kitty is my favorite garden towel.
my grandma grew elephant garlic when I was young. I went with Vietnamese red this year.
And I would lay down all the cloves where I wanted them planted, then I would go around and plant each one. And I would use fish emulsion or compost for fertilizing.
Jacques CANNOT keep a straight face during this rain LOL 😂❤
Nice job guys, great video.
Peaceful Valley is my hometown nursery and is awesome! Amigo Bob! Awesome video guys!
Some years ago a few of my garlic (hard neck-Minnesota) went to seed, I spread them in a small area and they sprouted (used some as green garlic-milder flavor). I left some in the ground then two years later I had small garlic that grew on their own.
This was great 😅🤣! When that rain started pouring down I was cracking up! Thanks for soldiering on through the video! Haha.
👍 love the rain! Appreciate you planting in the rain…
Planted today. More tomorrow. Hello from GA.
“Popp”n Cloves..!!” So Gangstah..
Groovy editing, my brothers.
This is the best video ever God bless a dedicated Gardner 🙏 🧄🧅🥕🌽🥔🥒
😂 you are too funny! Thanks for all the tips on planting garlic! Great dibber Jacques!
It’s the rain for me 😂 I love you guys the commitment is commendable
We get down to -25F here, I'll put a light mulch of straw or leaves over the garlic and potato onions. then some 4 mil clear plastic over the top and brick it down good. Stops the heaving and drives the germination rate up to around 95%.
The dedication to the video ahaha amazing!
Got my garlic from you guys this year! Going in this weekend I think! :) I don't ever soak, just plant it out! Love the rain video, I love being in the garden in the rain....:)
