    Great video Nick!
This helped me . . . finding the texture to give a good grunge look on dome drawings.
You mentioned extrude that didn't give you a desired effect, but I like the "Motion" extension (if it is in the .48 version). With it you can get a live view of the angle and depth of the 3d effect before applying it. I finally learned to un-group the effect and unite the 3d objects group.
    Thank You b d

The texture is no longer available. I just went to Pixabay which is a free image site that Nick has recommended before and looked up textures, picked a few that looked similar and used one for the tutorial. It's not identical, but ended up having the same basic effect and turned out really well. Thanks for the great tutorials Nick!

Great tutorial but I came to the end of the road at 13 minutes in when I discovered that version .91 has dropped the command Filters/Shadows and Glows/Inner Shadow. If you are using version .91 then you cannot finish the tutorial. At least that was my understanding. I still learned a lot from the tutorial. Thanks Nick

You were right. It IS too advanced for me but I watched it and picked up a few tips that I can use for the beginner level where I'm at. I got to the point of using the bezier tool on 2 corners and the union worked. I tried it on about 10 more corners and the union would never work after that so I don't know what happened but I'm not discouraged. I can move on and make a sharp but simple text design.

The example you show at the beginning has the inner shadow filter you made in the text looked deeper than what you created on the video. Does that filter have settings to make it look deeper or make the shadow on the inside drop to the left instead of the right?

Great tutorial. When I follow your tut with the word "TEXT" I get the same result as you. But when I use letters like "O" or "a" the inner part becomes solid as soon as I create the outline with Path break apart and Union. What can I do ?

Connect the lines (with the bezier pen) to the edges of the circle, since there's no corners. You'll need to use "snap to paths" instead of "snap to cusp nodes"
