I wear several custom Detroit fitteds with custom "J.DILLA" stitched on the side to honor this man.I had the obituary taped to my refrigerator as well.I remember criticizing DONUTS when I first heard it shrugging thinking that it was simply a "beat tape"😂.
That sounds dope I recently got a basic on-field Detroit Tigers fitted without custom work done on it. Do you have any social media that you posted those hats on?
@@IllDawgable yo look ME up SICK THE DRUMGOD
SOUNDCLOUD
same, when i first heard it i couldnt even go throughout the album but for some reason i kept re listening to it untill i understood the sound of the album and now i have listened through Donuts for like 10 times already whenever im doing some chores or when im having a bad day. Truly one of the dopest album ive ever heard
One thing I envy when I hear Dilla is the way he leveled his beats, chop selection and the texture his beats have. He was and is one of the best to ever make beats. Forever an inspiration.
Texture is the perfect word, well put
This Man Was Truly One Of A Kind, A True God Behind The MPC
This is the man who ingrained the idea of 'just let it flow' into my beat making. He is the greatest to ever touch an MPC.
Ill vibe remix is one of the craziest beats ever made! Busta killed it! Mad combo!
Amazing rapper and producer. Rest peace James Dewitt Yancey AKA Jay Dee and Dilla Dawg. J Dilla hip hop community we thank you for everything
"In the Streets" is a magnificent bear! It inspired me to produce music again. 🕊
Thank you for reminding me that today is j dilla's birthday. The fact that in the face of inevitable death he perisited to perfect his passion the the very end makes him one of my biggest inspirations.
His beats were more that just sound backdrops they were alive and briming with as much energy as dilla himself.
The thing that sticks out to me the most about Donuts is that while there are somber moments on it the album as a whole is briming with passion and joy. He wanted to leave his audience with the same love and passion that carried him throughout his life.
Gone way too soon, R.I.P. king
very well said
Happy birthday to both Nujabes and J.Dilla
Those 13 minutes flew by, in the best way. I was immersed the whole time.
That means a lot! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Def, your videos are top notch . Definitely a crowd pleaser for hip hop geeks like me.
Rest in Power to the GOAT J-Dilla. I remember back in 2001 I was trying to decide who was the better producer, Premier or Pete Rock. Dilla was a close 3rd. But then I heard Slum Village’s “One” and I lost it. I never heard a beat like that before or since. It’s probably one of the greatest hip hop beats ever made. There was no looking back. I knew at the moment Dilla was the greatest. The legacy this man left behind will never be duplicated. Thank you, Dilla, for the beautiful gifts you’ve given to the world. You are truly missed brother.
I never listened to Electric Circus on purpose, I have an unopened vinyl that I’m saving for my 50th birthday. Dilla’s beats ages like a fine wine 🍷
Wow that’s dedication! Enjoy it
As soon as heard mad skillz first album I knew dilla was headed for greatness those beats he did on that album where ahead of its time im still surprised skillz passed on that Running beat
Wuttup doe from Detroit… Dilla’s early work included beats for Da Enna C, Natives Of The Underground, 1st Down (his group with Phat Kat) Proof (R.I.P.), T Da Pimp, Que-D & Bizarre. Hip Hop Shop/St Andrew’s alumni
4:37 Love his unreleased tapes!

Excellent work! One thing though: Pete Rock also did a song for The Diary...Bilal sings on the track as well. I truly enjoyed the video...salute! #LongLiveJDilla🎶👑💯
Good call!
You missed out his mix for the British band Nine Yards. Always Find A Way. Not many people remember or even know about that one but Nine Yards were from the same place as the UK artist Gigs but they were before him
Dope! Thanks for putting me on
Another fantastic video. Truly unique and worthwhile content every time. Put me onto so much fantastic music I probably never would've know about otherwise. Great work man

He’s at the top of the list, just gotta take more time for more research
Well done Def! In the absence of what made XXL and The Source great, you have done a remarkable job of documenting Hip-Hop in a tasteful way. Salute!
