1979 HBO Behind The Scenes at a Xanadu Party

- This is a rare 1979 HBO video segment where David Sheehan takes his cameras to a Xanadu party that celebrated the completion of first day of shooting. Near the end of the segment, you'll find out that Gene Kelly is an old hat in dancing with skates, too. Whatta guy!!
PS: note the background music when Sheehan first interviews Olivia at 1:16. It's ELO's 1979 hit, 'Shine A Little Love'.

I can't believe that I have never seen this before!. This is my favorite movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!. I obviously am a huge ONJ fan. I have seen her in concert probably 15+ times. That is saying a lot from a small town boy in Lake Havasu City, Arizona!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Hi my name is David and i actually worked on half the production of xanadu i was a grip an extra hammer i remember working on the set at hollywoods general service studios where they filmed the upper loft art studio and whenever they had a 2 shot i always happened to be in olivia newton johns eyeline and she always gave me the wink anyway never forget that wow i actually had a big crush on olivias stand in ann was her name so those were some interesting times as a grip and retired now and nevergot any autographs 46 years winks and kisses are better got a kiss from annette fonicello fantasy island thx David fuller a.k.a demigrip

So cool to see Gene Kelly tap dancing on skates. He also looked great in some of the scenes in Xanadu, although it was not a great movie. And no, I do not agree that Olivia & Gene shouldve been love interests in the movie; Gene was still fine but older & refined at that point. It would have taken away from the storyline & too distracting. Now, if we are talking about casting him during the height of his sexiness; hell freakin' yeah! Gene was hellasexy fine in the '40s, '50s & '60s!

@XanaduPreservation Don't give up hope. Criterion did a special edition of "Carnival of Souls" once. Anything is possible.

Forget Michael Beck! David Sheehan is HOT!
Because Universal was too cheap in the 2008 DVD edition. They found more than enough material to fill out the DVD, but it would of cost a lot to get the rights (remember that Michael Jackson that shows up during Making Xanadu? Mondo bucks for that) and according to the producers, the studio wasn't interested in the extra effort. So sad, too bad.
@GreatestSingerEver01 More like SkatetownUSA wanted to hit the theaters first so that it didn't look pale in comparison or be passed over if Xanadu bombed (which it did). I've always thought that Xanadu was written to be a more modest film like Skatetown...starring talented unknowns with leased music,,,but they needed something of ONJ and then they got Gene Kelly and ELO and the budget and production got bigger but not the script
