i was impressed the 7245 unlocked is tunning at a solid 100 ampand 150 unlocked at 220
I got the Sony vtc4 . They're only 2100. But they're 30 amp...but the best part 8snthe price I get em brand new never cycled for 80 cents a cell.
if you use this technique with out the holders ,it can start to cause some short if insulation isnt perfect ,so dont scimp thinking youll save money not using the holders
I was planning to build my battery I've built a few small packs 6s most but I never considered soldering the copper on top of the nickel so thank you I've definitely learned something. Appreciate that nice build
youll have to keep carefull eye on your controller heat ,i do not recomend putting inside the frame,i removed most of the outer on my 7245 unlocked and 72150 unlocked so could mount them both together under the frame and used water block cooling instead
Yes in a later video I show where I cut slots in the side panels to get air to the controller, it definitely helped with the heat.
Love these videos!!!
nice video
Wow..that's a proper tight fit sam.. bet you had fun getting that bad boy in there lol
I pretty much got the same bike and it recently stop charging if there is a possible way you can make a video or gmail instructions👍!!
That's a tough one to diagnose remotely obviously my battery charger and BMS are totally different. First things first are you getting output from the charger? If so do you have an app or program you can use to see what the BMS is doing?
@@samjohnson517 I think it’s the bms, I bought new charger still nothing do you know where I can’t get a bms for a coustom built, I bought it built so I don’t know the parts and thanks fors the assistance👍👍
@@a1daone is there any way to contact the battery manufacturer or the person who built the battery ? because they would know, it could be something simple like a balance wire coming off I had that happen to me
The BMS is not showing balance. What you see are the high and low volts. When it starts to balance you will see the difference.
Yes I see what you mean now it is balancing now for sure thank you John!
I have a big block of metal which my battery sits on top of and it works perfectly to cool down the big lipo.
*Thats gotta be way more than 35AH?*
Pretty sure it's a 33.6AH. (12 x 2800 = 33600) Only the parallel connections combine to increase the AH
If you’re making large batteries I suggest using a AC adapter it makes a day and night difference from experience :)
Can you make one for my qs205 v3 5000w
Whats the benefits of making your own battery vs buying one?
Hello well I built my own battery because I could not find one powerful enough in the size I needed but there are other benefits, for one thing you'll know what's inside that shrink wrap as far as type of cells, thickness of nickel strips etc.
Cost is typically half even after the cost of buyign a quality spot welder
You're brave taking it on bro, i need to make myself a spare battery and i have the cells 😂 I'm watching your earlier vids
I know I was scared to do it but it was not that bad.
matter fact im one of your subscribers
Did you need cooling of any
In a later video I ended up cutting slots in the side panels to cool the controller but it seemed to be okay without them
Also I’m making a 72v 60a battery you think I need certain cooling for the batt
@@johnsonandjohnson9314 I was always concerned about having the controller and battery in there with no real way for heat to escape that's why I cut the slots out of the side covers. It kind of makes sense that it's going to get hot in there and excessive heat is not good
I got a guy willing to sell me a talaria battery for a steal do you think it would fit in the bomber frame it seems to be the same size as the battery you have in there
Have him measure it and send you the dimensions
Hi, great video and great build.
In the battery ideally should be the copper making the contact with the battery, having the nickel welded do the battery makes the current always passing by the nickel till reaches the copper plate, you'll have resistance and a lot of heat on that nickel.
Copper sandwich method works great, copper is 4x more conductive than pure nickel, with that spot welder you probably could weld a 0,15mm copper sheet with a 0.10mm nickel.
That’s a good idea
yep and you can use nickel plated steel if you need more resistance at your weld points to get the copper to weld to the cell. You only have to lay down nickel squares where you weld
Do you take orders?
Hello and thank you for watching, no I do not build these professionally this was my first and only battery build.
Hey man you’ve been super helpful , have a question for you .
You suggested a link in theses comments of a guy building a 20s14p 30q 72v 42ah
220a max cont. discharge
300a peak discharge
25kw peak power .
Idk much about this and I’m trying to build something similar .
Would that be a good battery for a build like yours
The only problem is the 14p, I think it's going to be too big it is going to be too wide for the frame , I dropped mine to 12p you will lose some range though.
Have you thought about adding a super capacitor?
Rekues batrai polimer 72volt 40ah
sam thank you for you answer of my questions God Bless You man but i stll have problems with my fork its not secure how i can fix this problem i hear you say something about 1/2 inch pvc pipe or something else like
Do you mean you have play in it, rocking back and forth like in this video;
czcams.com/video/C3P_j0Mii0s/video.html
@@samjohnson517 yes thank you
not i talking inside the frame the fork its loosing
WOW this the time you've done this?I don't know if I'll build my own battery looks like a bit much for me.Great job💯👍👍
Thank you! It's really not that hard you can do it just take your time.
@@samjohnson517 well thanks for the confidence Sam but you don't know me I'd burn the house down.I will do everything else though.Lol
@@racerx2095 just be aware you may have the same problem I had and the reason why I built my own battery in the first place.
It is very hard to find a battery with the specs you need (150amp continuous) and fit in the frame.
But that is only if you want to go over 60 mph if you want to be in the 40 to 50 range then they're pretty easy to find.
@@samjohnson517 I was thinking about a battery from Lightspeed in New York 21700 cells 84v and Dr Chopper in PA I talk to him a lot he does big Lipo batteries 2k that's my plan so far I'm still waiting on parts if I can find it cheaper I'll try and get it.
@@racerx2095 I wonder what the continuous and burst amp rating is on that
2800? 2800 what? P42A's are a realistic 4000mah and 25A continuous current with a burst in the 40-50A neighborhood
Edit oh you chose the 18650s...similar amperage but less capacity. They are good cells but I don't know if the 21700 can really be beat
@@ericklein5097 yeah they are just too big, I can barely fit what I have now, I can't even get my hand in there lol
nice build what does that black foam called u use inside the battry between the group pls

Hello, I am building this exact battery pack. But I am really stuck on one part and would greatly appreciate it if you could help. When you were soldering the copper plating onto the battery pack what type of solder did you use like what diameter and what type of flux in solder and what was the solder made of. And also what power soldering iron did you use like 60w or 80w. And lastly what rosin flux did you use on the soldering. Thanks so much keep up the great work!
Hello and thank you if I remember right I just used some 60/40 rosin core solder it was nothing special just the standard size and a 40 w soldering iron I ended up not using the flux because it was causing me problems.
i bought my bike because you i got the same exactly bike only i mising its the battery
Ah the famous Molly I heard about them, they are very good, I have a friend who has them and he was very satisfied ...
Ah les fameuses Molly j'en ai entendu parler, elles sont très bien, j'ai un copain qui en a et il en ait très satisfait...
These cells are better than 30q
Hi there im building a battery just like your will you be able to provide the link for the copper strip that you used please
Hello sure no problem here is a link
a.aliexpress.com/_mNQACyz
Great build!!! How big is it in AH at 72v?
Hello, thank you! The battery is 33.6 ah
@@samjohnson517 thanks a lot!!
Hey when you soldered the copper to make the series connection did it adhere well, im trying to solder mine right now but it just breaks off when i touch it
Hello, the solder is going to want to stick to the copper more than the nickel so try and heat the nickel first once you get the solder on to the nickel then it's nice and easy to solder the copper
How much of that copper strip did you use or buy? Im building 2 of these batteries and looking too get the correct amount
So 20 plates at 5in, =100in of copper per battery,
it is 4 plates per row x 4 rows plus you need 4 for the ends
Molicel is better than Samsung.
You chose very well. Why didn't you get the 21700's?
Built a pack with molicell p42 21700 great batteries. Been holding up well.
Hi Sam, would you think about building one of the same batteries for someone, I have the same ebike frame as you do.
Hello no I do not build these professionally but there are plenty of people that do or you can check in girl evikes.com they sell a battery that is similar using Samsung 30q s
What battery would you recommend for a battery a bit larger than yours but for a similar build, I’m thinking about getting 420 Samsung 30q batteries for my battery (20s 21p)
Yes Samsung 30q would work very nice that's what I was trying to use but I ended up with some counterfeit ones I had a hard time finding them after that so I went with Molicel which I'm very happy with but they are 2800mah so you lose a little bit of range
Rumor has it, the bike didn't run right, not because of the battery but because the size of his balls was too heavy for the bike.
I just got 225 21700 cells from a Tesla model 3 2019 on eBay in Germany for 250€ each cell has 4,8 AH so my Tipp is that u search for something like that (even if it takes a couple months) to get a high quality/performance budget build.
tesla cells are a myth sorry to say. if you want high quality cells that are 21700 go for the samsung 40t3. 4 ah and 35A disvharge. If you actuly got cells from a tesla battery there used and there are no specs avalable for them....
@@spcolsson somebody cracked them out of a battery and sold it to me they can put out 6-7 amps and have 4,8 ah
Can someone share me a pic of same frame motor but on a smaller wheels 24 inch mtb wheels. Planning to build a custom ebike also but I want it to be like a hybrid enduro and scrambler type not too high so I want like a 24inch fat tire wheelbase build on an enduro frame and I'll modify the seat area to be more like straight kinda like a scrambler.
Hi Sam can you tell me the size of this battery.
Hello, 14" x 7" x 5"
What about a lipo battery pack what are your thoughts on that.I think it can be built cheaper and it would be easy for you.👍👍
I did look into lipos I thought about using 5 4S packs but it was around $700 plus the BMS and I already had one lipo pack explode on me so I just thought the lithium ions are just more stable and would have more range.
@@samjohnson517 oh ok yeah I'm learning about batteries and don't want that to happen my house can burn down.Thank you Sam I'll keep that in mind. This battery seems to be a bit of a unicorn at this point.
@@samjohnson517 I'm considering a 21700 pack now and it's cheaper 1400
@@racerx2095 yeah I've heard good thing it's about those what is the continuous amp and peak rating on the pack?
I think vector ebikes has one but I don't know how much it would be to ship it
Please I want you to make one for me like this please, Samsung batteries how much will it cost me with your work 🙏🙏
Hello I do not build batteries professionally for liability reasons. But check this video link he may be able to help you czcams.com/video/QMQYfk2RKtU/video.html
How much was the total build cost of the bike?
And also just the battery
What are the measurements for the battery?
Hello it is 7" tall 14" long and about 5 1/4" wide
My is 8 inch tall 12.inch long and 5.5inch wide and I don't think I can squeeze that in my bike , I might.
@@TECHSUPPORTEBIKE it would be close you would not be able to run the controller where I have it
@@samjohnson517 oh yeah the controller is definitely going to be outside the frame , but it is a crazy tight fit and am not to happy . I will see 🙈
Congrats on building the battery yourself! You've inspired me to do the same.
Is there a how to guide that you recommend following?
Looking forward to the race with your son! Haha
Hello thank you there's a few books out there I could recommend but not really a guide for this particular battery watch this video this is the video that inspired me and this guy's a pro remember I'm a noob this is the first battery I built
czcams.com/video/QMQYfk2RKtU/video.html
Great video, I wanted to ask if you would consider building me a bike?
I can
Hello and thank you for watching!, well I do not build bikes professionally but I would help you with any questions or concerns you have if you want to try to build it yourself.
@@samjohnson517 what size battery and ah rating do you have? How long does it last and is 64mph the max speed. Any problems with heat? Any tips or pointers if you were to do it again
@@kaysonosborn5247 Hello and thank you for watching the battery is a 72 volt 33ah and I get about 40 mi out of it keep in mind that's not being conservative top speed I have a new speed run video is actually 66 mph as far as doing things differently I am more than likely going to do another build with a different frame but on this build probably paying more attention to the dropout size.
@@samjohnson517 ok awesome
What's the range of that battery??
Hello, I have not done a range test yet I still need to do that.
@@samjohnson517 done the range test?
@@PapaleguasNY yeah I got 42 miles out of it not being conservative so about 40 mph and a couple of blasts up to 60
@@samjohnson517 but can you change batteries during the day? Or its locked to the frame?
@@PapaleguasNY no it is a real pain to take out and it is heavy if the controller was mounted outside the frame you could do it.
